  1. Is it a model imported from another program? I've done unhide on imported files and all kinds of untrimmed surfaces appear. Maybe that is locking it up.
  2. Rough out the parts and have them stress relieved before finish machining. http://www.boedeker.com/anneal.htm
  3. Not all that great. Air is much less conductive to heat than coolant. So even though it's colder than coolant, the air takes away less heat from the tool and the work.
  4. WCS at center of rotation for 5axis toolpaths. Toolplanes for indexing.
  5. Probably has chips inside the tool changer. The carousel slides back and forth on rails and if a few chips get on the rail it will get really stuck. Or the cold start position is off a little in Z and the spindle is interfering with the carousel. The fuses and the reset button are down at the very bottom of the electrical cabinet in the back. Try blowing out the tool changer with air. Probably have to remove the cover to get it sorted out.
  6. The Fadal graphics screen will save you from stuff like this. Takes a few minutes but cheaper than a new blank.
  7. Transform, rotate the part 180° around Z and regen.
  8. Thanks for the review Apps Guy. Someone else was trying to sell Catia to me by saying it was easier than MCX.
  9. Here is a good explanation of gundrilling on a cnc machining center: http://www.starcutter.com/pages_blocks_v3_...thisroot=/pages
  10. I'd try speeds and feeds for 17-4 and see how it goes.
  11. "In some cases we would like to write out the tool offset info, and it would sure be nice to name that data file but I am told the control will only read the default name." Create a folder on the Mazak's harddrive just for tool offsets. In that folder, create subfolders and I/O the tool offset info to a unique folder. The folder can be given the name of the program to which the tool offsets belong. If you have ethernet to the machine, the tools can be preset offline and the offsets sent to the folders.
  12. Dust in the cooling fins will fry the video card too. Blow them out with canned air on a regular basis.
  13. I get that sometimes and just trim each entity to the entities next to it and then it works ok. Analyze chain seems to be less picky than toolpath chaining.
  14. Try saving the stl in the same folder as the mcx file instead of the default stl folder.
  15. Rough and finish tools. So the rougher grenades, the finish tool still cleans up.
  16. Add to wish list on X5: 2D/3D button changes colors when toggled as reminder
  17. Yes, if they are going for microsoft compatibility it should be tabbed browsing of files in one window with cut/paste between tabs and saving open tabs between sessions.
  18. I started a thread on this problem a couple months ago. The same thing was happening in X2MR2. I believe the problem started when I used Create Surface/Fill Holes. All the geometry would disappear in top and right views. I fixed the file by doing Save Some and saving the geometry to a temporary file and then merging that file to a new file.
  19. From some rough calculations, about .0007 inch per degree F at 52 inches. That's for aluminum, about half as much for steel.
  20. What machine is being used, VTL? I would calibrate the tools on a smaller piece of scrap that I can mic and and then use the same speeds, feeds, and d.o.c. on the big part. By the way, is the temperature in the shop controlled?
  21. Oops, that one did not have rotating tools.
