  1. A complete uninstall and reinstall fixed this.
  2. We are running X4 MU3, mill level 3
  3. We have just recently started using Toolpath nesting. It works great on 2 computers, but when I tried it on a 3rd, I get the following error after clicking the OK check mark on the Nesting Results screen: ERROR - Error Regenerating Operation! We are using a net hasp, so licensing should not be an issue. I have a call and an email in to the reseller, but I thought I would check here to see if anyone else had advice on this problem.
  4. Operator's here can make changes and upload programs, but they go to an upload directory. At that point, changes can be reviewed. If changes are appropriate, Mastercam file is updated and reposted.
  5. employee make new parts for free.. I would be careful with this - proly not legal
  6. We have MC files that hold ops for several different machines and have never seen this. One thing I have done though to prevent issues like this from making it to the floor is I wrote a program in VB that checks the code for common programmer mistakes, such as which work coordinate is being used, checks coolant for each op, checks look ahead for each op, etc. It has saved much time on the floor.
  7. Last year I found a file in the middle of a piece of D-2 and a spark plug inside a piece of 4140. That would make some cool pics - did you take any?
  8. I would drag and drop in X and X3 all the time with no trouble- have not able to do this with X4. What I did do was create an Open in X4 on the right click drop down menu of any file type that I want to be able to open in X4 - not so bad.
  9. I have had to fix a similar problem for a similar reason - no fun. Fortunately I had everything backed up, so it was simplified.
  10. Ron, if I am not mistaken you need an access code to use the 30 day free trial. I dl'd the software a couple of days ago. I should be talking to Scott Kenoke about this today. We have had a short game of phone tag going on.
  11. It helps eliminate positioning errors do to backlash You should still fix the backlash.
  12. +1 to 3M We run parts dialy out of .063 thk aluminum, and I don't think we ever get outside of +/-.005, but we normally do this on a router with an MDF board puling a vacuum thru it. If the vac doesn't hold for whatever reason, we glue it down.

I mostly bring Inventor files in - I can't recall ever having a problem.
  14. If you have a very specific position you want to enter from, select Use entry point. Create a point where you want to enter then select that point ahead of the contour in geometry. I have never used Use exit point, but it proly works the same way.
  15. OK - I finally talked my boss into letting me install X4 (apparently afraid of change) - In X3, I could drag and drop an Inventor file into Mastercam - X4 is not allowing me to do this. I can open the file from Mastercam, but not drag and drop. Is this a new feature, or do I have a setting out of whack?
  16. We have one of these - whips a**: http://www.epiloglaser.com/
  17. Thinking about it, the times when A2 has not worked well, I have had good results with M2.
  18. I have made many punches and dies with A2. As long as it is heat treated corectly, Rc 55-57, I have never had problems with it being to brittle. D2 is more prone to being brittle than A2. For the applications I have tried S7 on, it has not performed better than A2.
  19. I also don't think Mastercam accounts for look-ahead very well. I run some long programs with many corners, so the feedrate with look ahead on is slower than what it is programmed to skewing the cycle time in backplot. Peck drilling is my other complaint on cycle time calculation. I would appreciate any advice on adjusting these.
  20. We use a mill seat to program our routers. We were using transform toolpaths for multipart programs. I gave up on these because the operator had no control over the number of parts - it was controlled by the programmer. I wrote a fairly simple VB program they could use to make a multipart with the exact number of parts they needed. I proly won't go back to using transform.
  21. One of the best things about sharing the knowledge is that somebody else can do what you already know how to do, and you are freed up for more entertaining things. I have just started getting into posts myself, and this has been educational. Thanks
  22. I also do the same and make all program numbers match
