  1. No you can't do that! The file is quite different between V9 and X. Have you tried X yet? It's almost a brand new peice of software. You will have to take your time setting up X to how you like it. From V8 to V9 they did make a short lived attempt to transfer settings over automatically. But before then, and now, you aren't able to transfer cfg files from one major release to the other.
  2. Yes it does, but now the extension is *.CONFIG and it's in MCAMXCONFIG.
  3. Jeff, Lets say I updated an old V9 post called "fred.pst". Once I updated the post, the new version is still called "fred.pst". The original has been renamed to "fred.pst_v9". So are you saying that your equivalent of "fred.pst_v9" has a load of $ symbols after each of the variables? If so then that does sound bad and I think needs to be reported to CNC asap - because the original should not have been touched at all by the update program. Sorry to go off topic guys - back to the thread! In your operations manager, you can right click on the NCI line of an operation to go straight into Verify, I like that. In backplot, you can expand the settings window, then expand a single operation (i.e. pocket) and then backplot one cut at a time. Useful for troubleshooting. I find myself accidentally drawing selection windows all the time so I go to the General Selection ribbon bar, and set the selection mode to Single.
  4. Victor, I think you need to look at "Roll around corners" on you contour toolpath settings (second page). It will need to be set to "none" to give you a sharp corner.
  5. sr, My experience is that it's best to first go to Machine Definition, and pick a machine that matches the axis setup of your own machines (i.e. MIll 3 axis VMC). A Control Definition is already assigned to that machine. Then you can go into the Control Def and change it's Operation Defaults and add a new post processor to it. One of the great things about Version X is how far the Help info has come along. With the Operations Defaults focus warning, if you press the help button it explains why this message is coming up, and what to do about it. Are you also printing via the hasp in the parallel port? This may have something to do with X "losing" the hasp. Or are you a client running the Nethasp? If so, were you using the same setup in V9?
  6. After a bit of a search, I found it under the Screen drop down menu! I actually thought I had to turn off Auto-highlight to achieve this... and I was a beta tester
  7. dwsz71 I have added Apply/OK, End Selection (round green button) and Unselect All to my right click menu. Speeds things up for me nicely To do this, you will have to 1) Go to Screen, Customise, and go to the second page. 2) Expand the first option in the left hand menu, called "Right mouse button menu" 3) Now go to the right of the page, and choose Edit from the drop-down list of catagories. You can drag Apply/OK from there into your right click menu. 4) I also went into the General Selection catagory and added End Selection and Unselect All. Now one thing that is missing from this list is the OK button, i.e. the green check mark from the ribbon bar. I hope that will make an appearance in a future update! p.s. and welcome to the forum!
  8. dan m, The program that you download from simswap will only look for single-user hasps, not nhasps. The nhasp is basically an up to date bit of hardware anyway, so will be no need to replace it if you move to X.
  9. If you get to the point where the window "freezes" (it's waiting for you to pick geometry), then just pressing Escape will bail you out of the function altogether if you want to.
  10. Bullines, I admit that I haven't tried your script yet, but I tried using rename to turn GE3 files into MC9 and MCX files; in both cases X spat them out saying that they are corrupt files. I also tried renaming a "true" MC9 file to MCX, but got the same problem. --------- There is another option for people who for some reason chose not to use the VB Script. Using the DOS command you first rename all of your GE3 files to MC7 (or MC8), and here's why.... In V9 you can press File, Browse and this shows each file in a certain directory one at a time. By default it looks for MC9 files, but if you change the extension to look for MC7/8 files, a checkbox appears that says "save as MC9 file". So this feature will now show each MC7 file it finds, and saves it as an MC9 file (not relpacing the originals, which can be set back to GE3 afterwards if you prefer). The only problems I found with this method is 1) you get a "corrupt or invalid file" message each time. It doesn't seem to matter though as I can still read an MC9 file into X afterwards without a problem. So during the conversion I just hold down the enter key 2) I had a file on my screen before I started the Browse process, so all of the new MC9 files have that file as a bitmap in the File, Get window. So either start with a blank screen, or maybe put a note on the screen saying "old GE3 files"! Finally, you should be able to use Import Directory in X to convert these MC9 files into MCX. But I will admit that I have tried that three times but X didn't convert all of the files before crashing. It was a fault in MSVCR71.DLL which I guess is a Microsoft file. The best it managed was to convert 142 out of 167 files [ 08-18-2005, 06:33 AM: Message edited by: Rich Thomas ]
  11. I can reproduce the problem of the Autosave Dialog coming up. Autosave needs to be active, and set to "Prompt before saving file" for this to happen. The double click works great in several situations, i.e., selecting All, Surfaces in machining, or All, Drafting if making a global change to your dimensions
  12. No, afraid I can't help there - I can't get it to give me an ID either
  13. Leif, On the General Selection ribbon bar (the one with All and Only buttons) you should see a blue cube with a green check mark, when it comes to selecting what you want to place a slice on. That switches the system over to solid selection. Hope that is what you are looking for.
  14. The way I did this was to right-click in the ops manager and choose Export (this is how I start doing it in V9 too by the way, but it was called Save To Library). In the box that appears you can press the browse button next to the file name and there you will have a "make new folder" button. You can rename the folder at that point. Highlight it, press OK, and then you can type in a name for your new operations library (you don't have to type in the extension xxx.OPERATIONS; it adds that automatically) I believe that only after you have created a new library like this, should you go into the Files section and get Mcam to use it for this part-file. 15. Rekd, I think the main thing about using "redefine" in V9 is that it changed the entity, but kept the same ID# in the files' database. This is what allows solids just to be regenned, rather than re-chained. Doesn't look like it's there in X at the moment. I tried refilleting (is that a word??) but it actually creates a brand new arc rather than changing the old one, and so breaks the chain.
  16. heeler. I see what you're getting at... it does look like we are missing that feature now. I think the best thing would be to contact the support desk at CNC or your local reseller, or see if a reply is forthcoming here.
  17. (Using X's pre-select ability...) Go to the All button in the icon area. Double click on "Xform Result" (saves having to press OK). Now right-click in the Level box in the status bar at the bottom of the screen, then tell it which level you want to move to I - like you I suspect - tried to pick it up using Groups. It doesn't work like that anymore. You have to go to All, then Group Manager to do it. Perhaps it should work the old way as well (AHEM, CNC boffins! )
  18. heeler, I guess that you want the lines to change length/angle to automatically remain tangent with the arc the you edited? If that's the case then I'm afraid it's not possible. It works the same way as V9 in this respect, i.e. once the fillet is created, it's just considered an arc, and two lines happen to meet it at the endpoints. I'd love to be corrected if I'm wrong though!
  19. I can't see a reason why it is greyed out - I'll check with CNC.
  20. Jeff, if you have downloaded and ran the HASPINFO utility from the Simswap.com site, *and* it has determined that your sim needs to be replaced, you are then given a "unique id" in the results window. Just copy it into the website form.
  21. Yooooda, you can indeed highlight geometry when you click on a toolpath header. It's just not switched on as standard. Right-click in the Ops Manager and go to Display Options. There, you can set highlight colours for Drive surfaces, Check surfaces and Wireframe. The Undo does not actually undo in a couple of areas unfortunately. It's not great thing to have to say "at least they are heading in the right direction", but, ahem, at least they are heading in the right direction! If you had accidentally deleted an operation, you can get it back it by right-clicking in the ops manager and choosing Undelete. You may have already known this from V9. However, I'm not sure how long X will keep this deleted op in the ether before it is lost for good. I don't think it will be for long (in V9, it was lost as soon as you exited the ops manager).
  22. quote: I was just wondering if the STL not watertight error has gone away in Mastercam X. In Mcam X we have used three STL files as stock, which didn't work in Mcam9. It may not be "fixed", but it is better. Sorry it took nearly a year to get a reply to you though!
  23. If you are struggling to find out where V9 functions have gone to in X (and you will for a while ), then there is a file just for you! It's called V92XFunctions.pdf and it is in the C:MCAMXDOCUMENTATION folder. Along with the transition guides and the reference guide (a great one)
  24. Yes, I've tried using that one as well, and I can say that it worked on my system just fine. But there is no installation software there; you could add it into the Registry I guess, or you may know how to add that as a service using a function inside Windows (I don't know of a way of doing it, but I'm no hardcore network administrator...)
