  1. Andy and John, Edit/Trim-Break/Break many pieces and click on the circled button shown in the image below. This button will default to lines but when clicked switches to arcs. HTH "D'OH!" David beat me to it.
  2. 5 AX, What are your Transform Operation parameters? I found that if I Copied the source ops and disabled the posting with those ops, their individaul comments were not posted. However the commment from the actual Transform operation was posted. When the source operations weren't Copied from within the Transform operation and were selected to be posted, the individual comments from the source ops were output. This indicates to me that it may be related to the post processor or default NC output settings than a "bug" with the software. HTH
  3. kkominiarek, STL files are often quite large. Instead of converting the file directly in Mcam, use the "Xform STL" function in the Xform menu. The maximum # of triangles can be displayed on the screen by replacing the default # (usually 5000) with a 0. Then the type of transformation can be performed. Usually this is faster because you're not actually converting the file and Xforming the linear geometry in Mcam. I rotated a 42 Mb STL file in less than 5 seconds. If you want to flip the STL 180 degrees, make sure you're in another Cplane before you start to use the Xform STL function. The 42 Mb file is still opening in my current session of Mcam X. HTH
  4. kkominiarek, Open the Verify Configuration (in V9 the far left button on the Verify toolbar). In X this is the folder with red exclamation point right above the speed slider. In Verify configuration select the "File" for stock shape and click on the browse button to the right of the "Stock file" field. This should automatically open the same directory where you saved the file as an STL from Verify. Highlight the file name and select Open to use it for the Verify of your current toolpath. HTH
  5. Matt B, Boolean operations in Solids works only with closed solid bodies. Open Sheet solids are very similar to surfaces in that they don't have any volume. If you are able to close the solids, Boolean operations should be relatively painless and simple. Extract surfaces from the sheet bodies and create additional surfaces to close gaps and holes in the resulting surface model. Then, "stitch" the surfaces together to form a closed solid body using the Solids/Solid from Surfaces function in X, or Solids/Next menu/From surfaces in V9. HTH
  6. El Scotthead, The arcs exist on two different views. Use Screen/Next Menu/Comb Views to put both arcs on the same view. Trim away. HTH
  7. gavetta, You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. We all started at the same place. Mcam X is like a new program in some regards. Don't feel bad. With X, everyone's starting with a clean slate. Just keep asking questions if you don't know.
  8. gavetta, Are you trying to change the attributes of your X-formed Result? If so, right-click on the Attributes button in the bottom Status Bar. Then Mcam will prompt you to select the entities you want to change the attributes of. Click on the "All..." button in the General Selection Bar just above the graphic window. The second button down in the All dialog is named "Xform Result". After the Result is selected and you click on the green circle icon in the GSB, the Attibutes dialog appears on the screen where you can select any geometry attributes you want to change about the Result. This method will work for changing only Levels or Colors of the selected entities as well. HTH
  9. Jim Evans, quote: Ma steer cam.com Is that where the cows were photographed for the "Got Mastercam?" marketing campaign? J/K Jim. The link works well.
  10. TKDBB, Importing tool and operation libraries, as well as default and model files can be accomplished with the File-Import Directory function in Mcam X. Simply choose the type of file you wish to import from V9 to X and then the source directory and the destination directory in mcamx. You should not have any active Mcam files open while this is done. It will ask if you want to save your current file if one is active on the screen so this is not a huge issue. I just recommend that you import directories of files after just opening the session of X. This information is also included in the Transition Guide book that comes with the Mcam X package sent from your reseller. HTH "D'OH!!" Carey beat me to it.
  11. Elad, Are you running a printer off the back of a parallel HASP? Does your system meet the minimum requirements fro running Mcam X? There are books that came with your Mcam X package. The Installation guide has information concerning the minimum reqs for the system to run Mcam X properly. HTH
  12. 4xxx4, quote: P2 333 w/256mg of ram. 4gb disc :C 8gb disc E: I don't think anything less than a P4 will be supported for Mcam X. Check the Minimum requirements for running X. There's a PDF file in the E:/mcamx/documentation folder named "MastercamXInstallation_Guide". This guide has a section on System requirements. That guide also comes as a hardcopy book with the Mcam X package you received from your reseller. Show that to your IT guy and make sure those requirements are met. Until then, I don't recommend attempting to run Mcam X. Use V9 until you get the new computer. I would also discuss it with your reseller to see if there are any graphics cards they can recommend. There is some information on this website but it may not be up to date with Mcam X. Good luck.
  13. 4xxx4, quote: I have MC9 on drive C and it is real full with only 500mgb free. What are the specs for the system. Is it an older system? Does it meet the requirements for running Mcam X? Did you have administrative permission while installing the software? Was any virus scan software enabled during installation? What type of HASP is it? Was it tested to verify that it is a HASP 4 instead of HASP 3? Have you spoken with your reseller and explained this situation to them? We're here to help but we may need more details before we can nail this one down. BTW, welcome to the forum.
  14. jmparis, Good to see you at the first seminar. What'd you think of meeting chris m for the first time. I'm surprised he was able to walk through the door to the hall without bending too far. Glad to hear the shirt fits well. We're shipping all of our black t-shirts with the Mcam X packages. I'm going to tell everyone who asks that it's me pictured on the back with my arms and legs outstretched in an "X". Doug, Couldn't you have gotten those pics in focus? WhattsamattaU! I think it's time for a new pic phone.
  15. chris m, quote: Both of your posts in this thread COMPLETELY contradict what Steve said yesterday in the 'class' I wasn't present for most of Steve's presentation yesterday. I was busy helping to put together more packages for the seminars today and tomorrow. There are many options for selecting geometry. The General Selection toolbar allows for many of the same ways geometry was selected in V9, it just looks different and there are additional methods as well. The All and Only buttons contain most of the "masking" options that were available from the geometry selection menu of V9. Vector selection and pre-selection techniques take a little time to get used to. Steve may have simply decided to concentrate on the new methods for geometry selection. He was also having some problems with the mill file that I designed for the seminar. I had no problems with the same file today on my computer. HTH
  16. Jaz, quote: Does this mean I can map keys everywhere I used to use key board choices? In a word, yes. LaszloK, quote: I agree that there are many times ( a screen full of small circles) when hitting the "c" with one hand and positioned the mouse with the other is the quickest way to pick the centers and not quadrants or end points. Why not use the "Mask on arc" function to select all the centers of circles that are the same size? Another option is to simply window select all the circles or click on the "All" button and use the Entities mask feature on the bottom to select all arcs. HTH
  17. Paul McGarr, quote: is there any way to customize autocursor in version 9 to keep it from sketching? In V9 AutoCursor is either on or off, no customization. When it's on, AutoCursor will select whatever snap point it is closest to. When it's off, AC will not snap to anything so you can select specific points in a modal fashion. Just click on themenu selection or type the key on the keyboard and it will remain with that selection until you choose something else. In Mcam X, Jay (aka cadcam) shows a picture of AutoCursor selections from the AutoCursor bar. As Robert B. from CNC stated, you can add any or all of the AutoCursor selections to the RMB menu. It's easy. Key mapping is another way to customize your seat of Mcam X to work more like V9. Personally however, I prefer to use the AC as it is in X. I think it works well. When you want only Centers of arcs, simply disable everything else except centers of arcs. Bring the cursor close to an arc center and when you see the little icon, click mouse button. HTH
  18. Mark and R.O.Y._23, quote: hit escape few times Let me guess. You learned Mcam waaaaaay back when hitting ESC key was the only way to back out of a design function. Even when I do it by hitting the ESC key, it works just as Jim Evans describes it. Did you have any issues during the installation? Was any virus scan software enabled? Just trying to help nail it down. HTH Just read your last reply Mark. "D'OH!!!"
  19. R.O.Y._23, Jeff Kemper is correct with this statement: quote: Screen/NextMenu/Plot I think that, like most windows programs, would be under File/Print/..., There is a "documentation" folder in the McamX root installation directory. In this document folder are several good .pdf files which contain some valuable information to help with the transition from V9 to X. One of the pdf files in this folder is named V92XFunctions. This is a map of all the old menus and where the same functions are located in X. Some functions have been eliminated. HTH
  20. Brendan, quote: Steve, you better slap Peter upside the head then! J/K I asked him about this and he didn't explain it this way to me. He made it sound like there was no drawing in diameter. Maybe he is just not familiar enough with it which is understandable. No pun intended Pete,I enjoyed the class I had with you last week Thanks for putting in a good word for me B. What I believe I said before was there is no NC Utilities menu like in V9. You can Import many of your present file directories into Mcam X directly. Also, calling up a file that had already been saved in Lathe will automatically load the same planes and design characteristics. There are many new things with Mcam X but keep in mind, everything that you could do in V9 can be done in X plus some new stuff. I must've misunderstood what you were asking for. My bad.
  21. ChrisH, Are you working with a different WCS than the default? When working with a different WCS, I have noticed that V9 will switch to the Top GView of the current WCS whenever selecting the Dynamic GView button to look at the part from another angle. Another possibility is that the "Update Cplane and Tplane when changing GView" button is activated in the System Config. I like to work with this switch off. If it's on and you change to a different GView, the Cplane and Tplane will also change. HTH
  22. John King, quote: We currently have ver 8.1.1 installed. There's quite a difference between V8 and X. Also X won't run on older O/S's besides Win 2000 or Win XP. Be certain you meet all the minimum requirements. If you have any questions, call your reseller. Hope you enjoy it.
  23. Eastech 1, While in Backplot, select Display and look for a switch on the right that says "Simulate cutter compensation". Sometimes that switch will fix the Backplot. Other than that, the toolpath should be OK unless, as Tim Johnson suggests, you have arcs in the toolpath that are smaller than the radius of the tool. I use Wear comp mostly myself but to each their own. If your curious as to what Wear comp is or does, do a Search on this forum using Compensation for a keyword and I'm sure you'll find many past discussions on it. HTH
  24. Brendan, quote: It certainly doesn't work like that!! No. In X it's better because you don't have to click on all the entities, just the area you want to remove. I was just bustin' on ya B. I am in the office until 5 PM today. Fire away.
  25. Brendan, quote: Where was that trim/divide function in V9!! You were sleeping in class as I showed it to everyone else. It's been there since V7.
