  1. After you import you can go into the Group manager and select the imported geometry and move it to another level. You click on the ALL button then Group Manager and it should show a list of the files you imported.
  2. What I do for this type of situation is take a finished file, save it as a new file name, then import the new solid to a new level, and move to same position as previous part. Then only change the operations that need to be changed.. Hope that makes sense!
  3. Well this is annoying. I did my tests again today and I am not seeing a big time difference. My hard drive files are loading fast now. I wonder if it has to do with how much the hard drive is working with other system processes. I will keep testing i guess.
  4. This is a setup that I have been using that is working well and wanted to share. I use STLs in verify quite often and find it takes a long time to load larger files. Same is true for large stock models(when you can get stock model to work on larger files) . So I installed DataRam Ramdisk's free version and setup a 100MB ramdrive. I save my temporary stls here and verify opens these files much faster. I tested a file from the hard drive that took 17 seconds to load (which is a lot when you are programming all day) took 2 seconds for the ramdrive. I also set my temp and Regen files to this drive as Gcode suggested in an earlier post. Something to check out if you use large STLs.
  5. We were drilling up to .221 holes in 7050 Aluminum. I believe we had to slow it down to 1 IPM. It can go faster, but if you do stall it, you will have to then repair it.
  6. We have a few. They have very little power. We decided to make drill jigs and drill by hand. We used them on a Haas machine and the spindle orientation was pretty crappy. Holes were out of round because spindle kept rotating slightly. On a better machine with good TSC you might have better results than we did.
  7. Here is an example that may help. It is not a 5 axis pocket it is just deep, so I used an advanced 5x parallel to surface path to stitch the walls. You might be able to deconstruct it to your geometry if that is a process you want to try DEEP 5X POCKET.MCX-6
  8. I am continuing with TCP I will let you know if we run into issues. I am going to try and attach a PDF that Makino's 5-axis adcanced technology group sent me on the pros and cons of TCP and DFO. Hope it helps. 1-series 5XR pre-apps presentation 9-21-12.pdf
  9. Weird! I just put a koma table on my A81 and Makino is basically insisting that I run TCP. They said that getting the table centered on your B is so much of a pain that you do not want to run DFO. Let TCP do the work for you. I was running DFO until last night they convinced me that it was the wrong thing to do. It is a major pain though trying to re position from one rotation to the next in TCP. Make sure you rotate the C axis when you are at B0. otherwise your tool will head toward your part trying to maintain it's position to the rotary tables. I just think that it is weird that they would tell you that. Are you working with Karl Lippert from Makino?
  10. I get this a lot lately. I cannot seem to find any info for it on the forum. Mastercam just hangs and will not do anything. When I try and close it I get the error message. Anyone know why this issue comes up. I usually get it when I am regening larger surface ops.
  11. We just received in a Mori NLX2500SY. I am going to be working on a new post. I plan to start with the MPLMaster post. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with these machines, and would recommend a different starting point?
  12. Husker, My tool is a 3/4 endmill. Verify is where I actually noticed this was going on. The last cuts on the island that it is creating were much bigger than the lower pocket area. If I turn on my toolpath visability (alt-t) I can measure up to .35 between those cuts. At first I thought it was just a visual thing and the cuts were engaging the same percentage of the tool, but I don't think that is the case anymore. I like your idea for using an open chain for the entry, right over the island to make it cut it first, however Surface High Speed (optiarea) does not have that as an option for entry. I think I will play with the entry a bit and see if I can get something like that to work.
  13. Thanks for the reply's guys. Rickster, I do not see an add cuts in the Surface High speed optiarea in X6. J, I tried a few different settings like you said. The picture is with a .15 step over and a .075 step up. Then I tried a .14 step up, then a .15 step up with a .14 step over. I tried a lot of different steps, and they all make the same result. I don't know why that step over gets so big.
  14. I am using Surface High Speed (optiarea) I have step up turned on, my step over is set to .15. I get the .15 step over on all the lower cuts, but when it steps up to cut around the hole, my step over increases. As you can see in the picture. Anyone have a suggestion?
  15. I get this error often. I have for several releases now. I think I have narrowed it down to when I use regen all dirty ops. I have stopped using that function. Hopefully the issue will go away.
  16. I had to bail and start over. I was not to far into the job, so I just saved the geometry and ops and started a new file and imported them back in. Thanks for trying to help. John, just to answer your 2nd post. I actually deleted the stock model operation, so I could not alt-t the operation. The stock model was showing in my file without having a stock model operation. Thanks again for trying to help.
  17. Yeah, I tried that. I tried Ram Saver. I tried Unblank entities and it disappeared, then it came right back on.
  18. I think this was talked about earlier, but I cannot seem to get a search to find the topic. I made a stock model, then changed my operations, so I needed to regen the stock model. Now the old stock model is stuck on my screen. I have deleted the stock model operation completely and it is still there. I upgraded the video driver and that did not help. I am using an Nvidia GTX260 video card in win7 64 X6MU1. Anybody know of a solution for this
  19. I use Icam as well for my SNK's, so I know they can make it work.
  20. What I use on our SNK's is the point program. I just make a point where it clears the part in the plane that I am using then create another point that clears in the next plane that I will be using. You can control how it moves by adding more points.
  21. I get this a lot. I can never find anything running. I do the I have to go to the task manager to end it. I am running 2 screens. I have been searching for a fix for this problem for years.
  22. Anybody else having issues with stock model. Sometimes it just will not finish, it uses up all of my ram (8GB) then fills up my virtual mem, then crashes the PC. Other times it just stops, leaving a dirty operation. Other times it skips operations all together giving me a partial representation of my stock. I have tried increasing my tolerances like Colin suggested, but I still cannot make stock model work correctly.
  23. Hey Colin, Thanks for checking that. I may be seeing different results because of how I am using the Mill point path. I am using the point path to locate my 5 axis head so that I know that is it clear to rotate to a new angle. So I am not actually cutting material with the path. Now you might ask, then why do you need to have point toolpath work in stock model. I do not actually, its just a pain to find them and turn them off in the stock model operation. When I turn them on, I get this error. "Stock model regen failed to access toolpath data- unsupported type? unsupported tool or bad tool definition? missing custom file?" Not a big deal, I will just make sure they are turned off in my stock model operations. Thanks! Errors that I have found in stock model are, skipping operations, and locking up in verify a lot. Other than that, I like the function a lot.
  24. I have been using the stock model option in X6. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Not a bashing thread. I have found that Point programming does not work / is not supported. Anyone else found this to be the case, and any chance of getting this changed?
