  1. My gut feeling is that the machine may be the problem. Had something similar occur on a DMG 5 axis once that "looked" like chatter and workholding, but ended up being a B encoder. There are a few ways to smooth the motion in the programme, can you share the file? Bruce

A little of both. As an example I have a "general steel" library that has cutting parameters for each tool that are at the bottom of the manufacturers recomendations for carbon steels as default.   3. Personally I never use MC's SF calulation. I work out what works best fo a tool and save to a separate library. Bruce

  5. You will need to know more. What is the thread form and class? UN or Whitworth? If you have the mating part it might help this time, but thread standards were developed for a reason. See if the customer knows more. HTH Bruce
  6. I like the helido and have one of the new style feedmills, but I think I will just leave these faces un-machined. I was only really doing it to save on balancing further down the track, but if it takes half a day to save a couple of hundred $$ it isn't worth it. Might get myself prepared next time with some ceramics or some other idea that comes to mind between now and the next batch. Bruce
  7. Ahoy! I have a job from cast H7A Stainless that has a very hard outer skin. Tried being conservative with standard Iscar HOF face mill, but am blowing up too many inserts. Iscar on their way in to have a look, but thought I would ask if anyone has a better method. This part may be on the boundary of using ceramics???? Bruce

  15. I had the same question a while back. There would need to be a post mod to add the aggregate info. Inhouse would probably be the best bet. Bruce
  16. Ahoy!, Looking for any advice on the difference betweent the two from a machining point of view. Looking at the chemical comp it looks both harder and more abrasive than 316????? Bruce
  17. I do know of 118 degree catalogue drills. 1200 and 1200H series from Garr. Not TSC though. Bruce
  18. Send them pages from the tooling catalogues and ask them to point out the drills that are 120. We had the same thing with JSF stuff. You could 90% tell that the catia jockeys were either old school types bootstrapped into the software, or noobs straight out of uni with no real depth of manufacturing experience. Either way some of the stuff that made it into a model... Almost a stereotypical complaint, but I don't think I am too far off. Do you have any contact with that projects programme co-ordinator? Might be the only way to get a systemic change in the design office??? Bruce
  19. Hmmm. DMG are great so long as the machine isn't in a hot humid environment. That was my experience at a previous employer. Haven't used a Hermle, but I can say that if you get a TNC control you won't be disapointed. I have seen a variaxis 630 against a DMU-50e and from an operators point of view I would personally prefer the DMG than the mazak. Programming either in MC is no different really. My AU$0.032c Bruce
  20. 118 is old school jobber tooling. Best thing you could have done David was act dumb and say nothing. Now they have an excuse to add an ispection process to all your parts. But hey! It's all tax dollars paying for it in the end What sort of feature is it Dave? Hopefully not a tapped hole! Bruce
  21. Looks like it is a ladder problem in the control. We have started using "normal" fanuc tapping cycles rather than the i-guide ones and apparently the machine wasn't setup to use them properly. Bruce
  22. I occasionally draw it up, but never ever use "undefined". Why are some of you using it? Bruce
