  1. Is this going to turn into a Lionelle Ritchie song?
  2. I see 2019 has improved the drilling sequencing to actually peck (in backplot) and give more accurate cycle times. In order to do it you need to use "subsequent pecks", otherwise it just pecks once for initial pecks. I am wondering if there is a way to auto-populate subsequent pecks with the value of initial pecks so you do not have to retype the value.
  3. Tried it once. Caused problems. Exactly what, I do not remember. It's one of those things, like when they had a "use default post on startup" button back in V9, that you are not sure of the exact reasons because it has been so long, but you swore to never use it again. I do, however remember the situation behind that default post button. That was an ugly day. A very ugly day. Yeah, was programming and posting a grinding op for a big Fanuc horizontal. Posted the program and shut down MC. Came back and restarted MC to make a simple change. Reposted without thinking of the new setting. MC defaulted to a Mazak, with no H codes. Yeah, ugly.
  4. 1.) Be very careful with that. Things WILL get ugly. 2.) I am curious about this one.
  5. 1. wouldn't that be nice. 2. that too.
  6. This was not initially modeled for use in Mastercam. I converted just the base to a step file from within NX and imported it into MC. That only brought in 1 entity. When I brought the base part file into MC that created over 12000 entities. Also, it seems that you can no longer bring in PRT files along with their original colors. Not cool. And, when I uncheck the load with current attributes box it is like it unloads it and reloads it. Why is this box defaulted to check in 2019? Image of the vise is below.
  7. Is that a christmas present for your wife? You do not need to create a line. you can just offset using the solid edge. In fact your wireframe is not needed. Use a 1/16" ball mill. If accuracy is not important you could use a button tool to thread it and groove the first ring.
  8. Cjep. I created the model in NX and did a direct PRT import into MC. Yes, there were some screws that were threaded. No duplicates. Wireframe was not imported except in the few instances of non-detailed threads. Those would have just been a couple of circles each. However, whenever I import a solid, be it from SW or NX, there are always a bunch of non-existing entities that somehow get attached. Usually several thousand. This vise I imported was extremely detailed. Looked like the real thing . Right down to the raised embossed lettering and decals and thrust bearings. It was a model of a Toolex RWS-4002 vise. I even modeled an animated disassembly and reassembly. I also have to simplify the solid after importing because it divides all of the cylinders. All together, the import was about a hundred solid pieces that I stripped down to make it usable in MC. One more thing that I find irritating is in 2019 the box for importing with current attributes is now check by default. That causes more headaches.
  9. Every time I bring in a solid I end up with THOUSANDS of BS entities. So many that it really drags down my PC. I just deleted over 750,000 entities from importing a vise I had modeled that had 27 solid features. I think I first noticed this in 2017 and it keeps getting worse.
  10. Well, I'll be. I can see a benefit to this. Thanks Cjep
  11. Interesting. I have never seen that setting in the control default.
  12. I was getting the same thing, except mine said 3-axis. I was like, duh, it's a 4 axis program.
  13. Machine group, tool settings, assign tool numbers sequentially.
  14. Use the migration tool to update your old files to your new version. However, I am not sure it will work with old X7 files.
  15. On one job I am using an STL file for my stock. Using the stock setup will not load the stock. I end up getting a block instead of the premilled stl tube. However, If I go to verify settings and select the original stl file there, it will load. This is not on all jobs, just this one. Another problem is when recording videos, it is painfully slow unless I have the video quality set to minimum.
  16. And waste another hour everyday in mouse travel time trying to use it.
  17. The difference between Excel and MC's ribbon is this: Microsoft arranged their ribbon according to what tools can create an easy flow environment. They also allow complete customization of icon bars, as do most software companies. MC does not. Before ,most of us had custom icon bars where they were most convenient. It was fast, effective. And, that is how other cam packages do it. Customization is key. Just having them places where some office lady thinks they look pretty does not work well. As for pretty icons, who was the genius that decided to change the icon pictures? The moral of the story is that MC is not Excel, and MC should not be doing things just to keep up with the Jones'. For a good example, check out Gibbs. Gibbs has pretty much the same interface as it did 20 years ago. Once you go back to Gibbs you pretty much know where everything is.
  18. I just use my chamfer tools as spot drills.
  19. No. it isn't. QA is as far from the work area as possible. It might as well be under my chair. Right click menu is right where I need it. So were all of the customizable icon bars before we were assaulted with the ribbon bar.
  20. THIS^^^^^+++++++++. Let's talk about that Fin, GD, next-to-uselessly-customizable-ribbon-bar. AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I have resorted to putting just about all of the "features" I need in the right click dialog just to try and get as far from it as possible.
  21. Of course I am aware that SM works on lathe. I am also aware of the limitations of SM. And, I am also aware of the desire for the OP to mill a finish pass in one operation instead of 2. MC has been around for what, 25 Fin years and it cannot figure out the easiest sht on the planet? Don't they have any machinists there? I guess you and I look at things differently. You look at it as mastercam as if it is the best software on the planet and HOW DARE anyone have a complaint no matter what it's bugs are. I look at it as WTF were the geniuses thinking and don't they ever test their sht before releasing it and why haven't they fixed these 10 year old bugs before adding more frivolous garbage, and why can't we STILL get default settings to stick on things as simple as bounding box or feature selection? Sorry, I do not share your love for this software. I am not getting paid to advertise how wonderful MC is. I also did not get paid by MC to go through nearly 2 months of troubleshooting MC4SW and having to constantly prove to them that their lathe product was full of bugs that nearly brought our shop to it's knees. File after file after file we sent them, that we had to create AT OUR EXPENSE because they did not want to take the time to create the files (that we described perfectly to them) to evaluate the situation. So, I am not sure why you take this personally, unless you have a financial stake in MC products, but you need to back off of people that have legitimate gripes about a product that is more about workarounds than actually working. One thing you said in the past that I agree with is that you are mean. Lighten up!
  22. So, now you know why stock update is important. Kinda like answering your own question.
  23. The way I approach it is from a shop that cannot order the same size material for the same part twice.
