  1. Digging up a 20 year old post for an area code check...
  2. Forcing Smooth TCP if no P is specified. It could be that the correct High Speed Mode has not been applied (G05.1Q1 before the work offset is activated and G05.1Q3X0Y0Z0[AX]4[AX]5 after the tool length offset is activated) for example. There's a lot in play. Correct program formatting (turning this on first, that on second, the other thing on third, etc...) has a lot to say about performance/results. Sometimes you can turn things on in the wrong order and not know it. i.e. no alarm is generated, just results are less than expected. That is less true today than it has been in the past. FANUC in the l;ast 10-15 years has done a good job with bundling options in such a way as to make the most sense based on the type of work being done. F.A.S.T. packages for example. However, it is still the builder's responsibility to option the machine appropriately. That is inaccurate. I know of 10 machines same make, same model, ranging in build years from 2017 to 2023 in the same 2-3 square block radius that all have the same option package. Now, the machines with build dates later than 12/2021 have some capabilities the previous build dates do not possess, but that is a function of product improvement (FANUC Series and Edition, PMC, and Ladder improvements), not lack of options. Perhaps this is true of lesser builders, but the upper echelon builders option their machines appropriately and consistently... at least in my experience.
  3. Worthless AI bots are infiltrating. Great. Break out that ban hammer!
  4. If what I said came across as bashing, that was most definitely not my intent. HMC's absolutely have their place in manufacturing, however, considering the percentages of machine tools sold that are HMC's, that overall number is on the decline while percentages of 5-Axis machines sold are increasing every year. For the right work, nothing beats an HMC. For the right work, nothing beats a 5-Axis. For the right work, nothing beats a 3-Axis VMC. Use the right tool for the right job and things go better.
  5. For the majority (if not all of) the work you do, Fusio360 isn't an option. Totally get it. But, not everyone does Defense/ITAR work. For those that don't, it's an option worth consideration. Personally, I loathe subscriptions. I think there will be a special place in Hades for the people that came up with software subscriptions. That being said, I've got a lot of scustomers that are just getting started, AND are doing FULL 5-Axis work with it and save for a few issues that CAMplete solves, it's working well for them. Full featured parametric assembly modeler.... for $500-$600-ish a year.
  6. There's not enough Post Developers to handle that migration process over the course of 5 YEARS let alone one release. Hopefully the right person/group is watching this discussion.
  7. Indeed. You don't exist as a company for 35+ years without doing something that people like.
  8. Not necessarily. That being said, the probe installer should have calibrated the probe as part of the normal installation process and to expect that program to be left in the control somewhere would be a reasonable expectation IMHO. That being said, ALL probe users should familiarize themselves with the Renishaw InspectionPlus manual and it's contents. In there are examples of how to calibrate spindle probes (including basic program examples). When I calibrate a customer's probe, that is what I do (refer to the InspectionPlus manual) if I cannot find any calibration sample programs. Then I leave that clearly named sample in for the customer's future reference. There are conflicting numbers out there for what the maximum probe tip run-out should be. The number I go with is ±2.5µm (.000098") from Renishaw Manual H-5069-8502-02-A. HTH
  9. That's the mouse I use... in conjunction with a 3D Connexion SpaceNavigator. Best wireless mouse hands down. I'd love to get a wired 3D Connexion mouse because they are SO light, but they are too small. I've got big paws and a regular sized mouse is just way too small. My hands cramp up using those things for any real amount of time.
  10. Most Gibbs users are like Apple iPhone users. Conditioned to accept whatever Apple does and however it does it as normal.... or as I like to think of it; in Pee Wee Herman's Pee Wee's Big Adventure.... Pee Wee Herman is riding his bike and he crashes in epic fashioned, gets up and says "I meant to do that."... Apple Users accept that with a smile. Meanwhile the rest of us are
  11. Certain machines have trouble with #11775.0=1 and others need it. Trying to figure out which ones need it. :headscratch:
  12. Yeah, for the most part, the motion control trumps the calculation time at this point. Also, it's pretty rare that I'm setting tolerances down much below 5-10µm (.00019-.00039). .0001" is about 2.5µm.
  13. I've used the Migration Wizard for the last 2 releases (2023 and 2024) and it's been flawless as far as I can tell. I use the advanced wizard because I only want specific things (Machine/Control Defs, Posts, Tool Libraries, and Ops). I used to do it manually as well. Someone convinced me I should give it a shot, and I did. I still manually do settings/config, etc... (file locations, colors, defaults, etc...). Used to take a few hours. Now it's generally under an hour to square away a new version.
  14. and getting slower... It should definitely be faster... Edit: I ran it setting Mastercam to High Priority and it dropped 20 seconds off the time, but it was still 4:01.
  15. Opened the 2023 file (all ops dirty) in2024, saved as 2024. Cleared the event log, Regenned it. 4:21 in 2024
  16. In the last MP Post I modified for Matsuuras, I used shortest direction, absolute angle. That said, the control does support signed continuous. I just liked seeing numbers between 0 and 360. Purely personal preference. Keep in mind you are limited to most likely 6 digits to the left of the decimal. That's 2,777 full rotations. HTH
  17. Imagine the printer that will print Dreamliner wing spars.
  18. The ONLY way I see this going as planned is if you thread-milled it in the first place AND have a clocking feature so you know the angle of the start AND you use the same thread-mill. If any of the 3 are not there, it'll probably be a scrapped part when you're done. This right here... ^^^^^^^^
  19. It was the way of the future 15 years ago... it's the here and now. Some of our customers in the the HMC world are REALLY getting back into the Custom MACRO B world to gain what (apparently) CAD/CAM systems functions are lacking in many instances. I would venture to say that I do exponentially more MACRO B training today than I did 20 years ago which many consider to be it's heyday when it was actually necessary for a wide variety of reasons. You may want to explore/exploit the power of the Mastercam/IHS/Postbility Post Processor in addition to adding Custom MACRO B functions to it. I've said this before and I'll say it till the day I die, Mastercam's MP post language can actually make up for some application specific deficiencies in the software. Some people think of that as a negative, I actually think it's a positive because it allows the customer to tailor the output to meet their increasingly complex needs without reliance on the CAD/CAM software for all functionality. 20. Additive will only become cheaper and better as time goes on as well. Personally I don't believe it will completely replace subtractive (I dispute that assertion) for a variety of reasons but there's no question it is here to stay and will only gain in prominence and popularity. Just a few weeks ago I used mine to replace a broken household part. Took less than 45 minutes from art to part. I would have been hard pressed to get into my car drive to Lowes, pick it up (if it was even available) and come back home in that timeframe. Would have cost gas and wear and tear on my vehicle too.
  21. You would be unusual in my territory and the US as a whole, hence why I cited UCC filings. A UCC filing happens whenever a piece of capital equipment is financed in any way shape or form and is a method in which collateral is secured. UCC stands for Uniform Commercial Code. I see those reports about every month or so. Companies that sell only HMC's aren't moving the kinds of number they once enjoyed and that trend isn't reversing. Even if you had 100 HMC's it wouldn't even move the needle in the trend. When I started in this business and at my current company (not considering commodity machines), HMC sales outnumbered VMC sales 2:1 easily and outnumbered 5-Axis sales probably 3:1 or 4:1. Today it's probably 5-Axis sales outnumbered HMC's 4:1 maybe even 5:1. The whole point to my explanation is most companies (software included) look at trends and make development decisions based on things like UCC filings, Feature Requests, and probably even Social Media to a certain degree. Brace yourself for additive technology to unseat development in other areas (like HMC specific features) as the technology continues to unseat subtractive manufacturing methods. Don't shoot the messenger.
  22. One of the first things I do when working on a new project is I go to my tool library and pull all my tools in , then as I program a feature I select the desired tool for the operation. The only time I see "random tools" get created is when I don't select a tool for the operation. I think a minor workflow adjustment could remove that annoyance.
