MODEL CHAMFER ISSUE

Hi All

I am having a issue with model chamfer if I select multiply faces instead of doing a continuous chamfer along the faces selected it want to come up at each change of direction.

It rolls around if there is a rad but if its straight faces it want to come up to retract height.

Has anyone had this issue a been able to resolve it

Thanks

Graeme

Are you using loops or single edges in the solid chaining? Just like regular wireframe toolpath if you define single edges then Mastercam will cut each edge as a single contour. If a loop them use loop if you want a partial loop then use that process. Solid selection has greatly improved over the last few version and 2021 has some of the best uses of it to date.

It all has to do with how you selected the geometry. Did you select a full chain, or single edges?

Post up a Mastercam File, so we can see your work, and then we can advise you on how to fix the issue.

In general; no, the tool shouldn't retract, it should stay down on the part and complete the chamfers in a single "contouring" motion. But again, that's completely dependent on your geometry (chain) selection, and Lead In/Lead Out settings.

Maybe related, maybe not; when I draw something in my CAD (doesn't even matter what CAD and/or CAM package), I always,  without exception draw EVERYTHING sharp. Once done, then I add draft faces, after that, fillets and chamfers. And ALWAYS without exception going from largest feature to smallest feature.

Doing things with that method gets me exactly what I want about 95% of the time. Every once in a while I'll need to do an extrude cut to get something just right, or I may need to reorder the solid operations.

As with many aspects of machining its all about method. And it shows when you go and try and machine against the model, models made methodically are often MUCH easier to deal with, and it is often easy to spot the inexperienced.

Simple and methodical might sound easy...
