When I am tapping more than one hole... as this morning tapping several hundred in one part and I hit slide hold in order to check the first hole after I restart it it looses the G84.2 or something. It resumes tapping under the feed and speed it is set at with the control knobs rather than the cycle in the program. Does anyone understand what Im talking about and if so is there a way I can make it resume with the correct feed and speed?

I've used slide hold before with no problems. Can you use single step as a workaround?

Rigid tapping should overrided the spindle and feed override knobs. Are you saying that if you adjust the knobs, it will tap faster or slower? If so, that's weird!

Yes there is a G84.2 didnt know there was a G84.1 hehehe

Thad that is exactly what Im saying...if my feed knob isnt set perfectly, and you know how hard that would be, after pressing slide hold it will over ride the Rigid tapping. Therefore my rpm doesnt match the feed anymore.

G84.2 is to prepare the machine for ridgid tap

G84.1 is ridgid tap

G0G90S500.1

Z.5H1M8

G84.2(PREPARE FOR RIDGID TAP)

G84.1 BLAH BLAH BLAH

This is how I was taught to run ridgid tap on a Fadal. Its worked for many years now. Maybe the reason your machine isnt overriding the feed and speeds controls, not really sure tho ive never had that problem.

DOH! I overlooked the actual G code. G84.2 is defined as "Prepare for rigid tap cycle." G84.1 is the actual rigid tapping code. Try that and see if you can slide hold in the middle. I'll bet you can. wink.gif

Good call Noel! cheers.gif Edit: Yeah, the rest of you guys who beat me too. biggrin.gif

Good Day,

Can someone tell me in the S1000.2

what the .2 does to the RIDGID TAP

and in X2 mr1 I get A second speed at the second hole without the .2 like this:

G0 G90 E1 X2.5972 Y-4.5

G43 H9 Z.1 M8

G84.1 G99 Z-1.06 R.1 F50. S1000.2

X1.0 S1000 (RESETS BACK WITHOUT .2)

X2.

X3.

G80
