Spaceball

Who's using a spaceball? I had to do some work in UG yesterday and there is a spaceball at that seat. As James would say.....SUH-WEEEET!

 

They would never get us a spaceball for our MC seats. A luxury item...

If your talking about one of those big balls you sit on in front of your comp, Yea i got one at home that i use up to the count of 6 burbons, then i got to kick back with the lumber support version

actually using one this week due to breaking a bone in the top of my hand. First time i,ve used one. Carn,t really give an opinion of it yet cause im still not using it properly. It has stopped my hand from hurting a bit. Sorry for the Smarta## reply but not being able to load or set up tooling has left a bit of time on my hands

i've had one for about a month 4000 series

it doesn't work that well in mastercam all the time (files with many entities are slow to move)

I purchased it on ebay US$99 used.

I have used one for about 4 years now. If you do any 4th axis rotary type work this is almost a must have piece of hardware. I can't imagine not having it.

Spaceball - Gooood!

 

I have one bitch about it. It will screw up your mcam file if you do this:

 

1) Use the SB to rotate your part into some oddball angle.

2) Right click the mouse to get the drop down menu.

3) Press T for top view.

4) Nudge the SB and watch your part do a funky like jump.

5)Notice that your WCS is at some wackoid compound angle.

6)Save file.

7)Exit mcam

8)Re-open file.

7)Notice that random arc entities (and only arc entities are effected...go figure) are scewed out to a oddball compound angle.

8) Cuss.

 

So..to fix. Remember not to get click happy with the mouse and never EVER click any view ID while the SB is in effect.

I too have one and love it. Just wish MC supported it a little better. Works awesome in Inventor and good in MC.

 

Buy one, you won't regret it. ebay is the right source, otherwise get ready to dig deep into your pocket. Let the corporate guys buy the new ones ;>)......

i love my spaceball makes working 5-axis real easy. keyboard in left hand mouse in righthand spaceball between my feet. now that's productivity.

I use an FLX 5000 for 3 months, Sweeet!!

wenn i switch to an other computer, i reach every minute for it, and realize how much i use him.

 

When you buy one, take the USB-type !

Those have more functions (outside mastercam)

Henk, are you saying that you have to click after every spaceball use to "accept" it? Sounds like a pain.

In Mastercam you have to do a mouseclick to disengange the spaceball.

I also hope this will be eliminated in MCX.

Yes, it's the same mouseclick on the end of dynamic pan/zoom to accept the position.

I had a chance to play with one of these on a UG system awhile back.

Sweet!

Didn't know what I was doing on the UG,but it was pretty cool.

Hopefully they will be fully integrated into MC X.
