There is not a whole lot we can do with just an e-mail address

True, but give Bullines a shot at them anyway! biggrin.gif

I'm certain he has a few tricks up his sleeve that will at least cause these hackers & crackers to experience a few headaches of their own!

I got it as well. too bad there's no way to beat it. If he really is in russia and using mastercam illegaly, there are no laws against it in St. Petersburg. The authorities there are not remotely interested in american companies getting their proper funding from their software sales. what a bummer.

I certainly don't plan to help him out with anything.

Why can't he just be like every other illegal user and get an account on here to ask questions like that.

Somebody put the proverbial "smack down" on this malchik... Please.

Those guys are mostly pretty good hackers themself too.

If they figure out who is messing with them they may come back and mess up this site as well.

From what I know Eastern Europe has professional hackers "for hire" curse.gif

The best way is to

forward it to the BSA for takedown.

as Brian suggested.

Yep !

But hackers and crackers are different .

Good hacker would not even mess up with this site .

And you would not hire him without recommendation .

Good (clever) hackers are those whome no one knows .

Those who are bragging in Russian news groups

are young fools .

Same groups are monitored by department P of Russian security .

Good hacker never leaves traces of the hack .

And they have their moral principles .

So it not so simple to hire a good hacker

My best High School buddy is a top notch programmer for banking services in Poland. Some of the stories he told me when we got together couple of years ago are mind blowing.

This is pretty much organized crime in this part of the world (majority from Russia). He calls it an ongoing war with them. They even demand ransom for protection from legit corporations and if not delivered they ruin their networks for days and weeks costing companies fortunes.

Here is a little sugestion for CNC Software.

There is no way in hell that you are going to prevent illegitimate copies of MC from being distributed banghead.gif , but how about serializing each installatin cd with some innocent looking code spread in several different files?

What it will do is let you know where the original copy came from...

Just a suggestion smile.gif

No chance ! How it will pass over firewall ?!?

Very possible . From simple DOS aattack and deeper .

This are computer gangsters and they will be catched fast enough .

Sure there will be others .

But ruin and hack is a different thing .

Clever hacker from the distant town in Russia entering from university campus computer

takes from 2000 hacked accounts 0.3 dollar per month and musks this operation with 50 tranfers .

Thats enough for a normal life and a beer in his town .

That may be true...but anyone trolling around trying to leech free copies of software from a site full of registered users is strictly a lamer in my book. rolleyes.gif

I think Bullines could handily flame these lamers without even breaking a sweat. biggrin.gifwink.gif

flame.gif

Like Iskander said, a real pro would compromise somebody's network, take what they want, then leave without a trace. They would also not become involved in the direct distribution side of pirated software so they can keep their anonymity and not be placed in a position where they could be caught. And lastly, for the sake of bragging rights, a real pro certainly would never ASK for a copy of something he could just as easily TAKE. wink.gif

Mark,

Excellent suggestion about embedding some innocuous little snippets of code in the distributed cd's. At least then the creators of the software could find the sources of the leaks.

Those would be just some letters and numbers and when you install MC software you do trust the source... smile.gif

As I said , just a suggestion because every cracked copy of MC is paid for by fellow legit MC users like you and I... banghead.gif

Took him a year to break up one group and only because they got just a bit too bold wink.gif

Some go as far as scanning atm from a nearby car when a customer is using a card to withdraw a cash, then they make a card like that and clean an account clean curse.gif

Unless you make them mad...

My understanding is they are part of the same group

Why work on something if you can get it for free...

Sure, but his hands are tied to stay within a law and theirs are not.

My feeling is he will find out all he can about them and let BSA deal with it.

Flame me ,but ....This is illegal

I didn't know that, Iskander. How is it illegal? Aren't software manufacturers allowed to put whatever they like to be able to identify and trace their products? I mean like a hidden serial number or some such other means? Please enlighten me.

This is not legal for a program to do what it `s not supposed to do !

If MC would do it must be opened feature with user notification at least !

Otherwise tracing and monitouring is illegal .

And you must have network connection ,that`s not always available .

Do you recall all the fuss about Microsoft practise ,they were caught not one time .

If this feature would be legal ,it will be cracked ,if not ,MC would never be able to use it in court

Just my 5 agarots !

Now listening Deep PUrpLE playing Mistreated "
