New X users READ THE STINKING MANUAL!!!

Storky, I dont think rsbeadle meant that in a mean way, but rather as a help to new X users. (not sure that there are alot of people that are old X users, not even us beta testers.)

Programmers are notorious for not reading manuals. I only look at them when I get totally stumped. Its just the way we are. We like to figure stuff out.

Getting back on topic, I think he's just pointing out that most "newbie" questions are answered in the guides provided or by using help.

I for one like to ask here. I get opinions as well as answers. I will look through help and the reference manual but sometimes you can get a quicker and better answer here even if it is a newbie question. And people are looking for speed cause they are trying to learn and be productive at the same time.

Corey teh meh tired of other softwares.

Jimmy in all seriousness, I am closing my doors and incorporating into Richmond Tooling up in Colonial Heights Va. (Between petersburg and richmond right off I-95, I am not moving from NC, so my drive is 112 miles, but after the first 3 or 4 weeks I will not be traveling everyday they currently use surfcam and featurecam but are impressed with what they know I am capable of with MC. I do not like surfcam, sam I am and have not tried featurecam, I remember I beta tested the first 2 stages of X and at first it was Whoa, but it took about 30 hours behind the seat and I fit right into it. If there was something i could do to help out I would, I know you guys gotta be slammed, If I still had X I would try and get around this area one day a week to install and brief or something.

That was fun when I was a reseller in Pa.

Since I haven't recieved my codes yet, I went through the getting started and install books.

A VERY informative read that will end up and save me some headaches.

If I would have had the codes, and was able to update my hasp and install X, I would had a few issues to say the least.

While I like asking questions in here also, Steve has a good point.

Read the Instructions on this one folks......

I say keep the questions/comments coming. I've learned tons about X from this forum the last few days as well as just playing around with the software. I'm cutting parts on two Mikron High Speed machining centers and still haven't cracked open the manual. I will read the manual in due course just haven't had time yet (too busy browsing the forum).

The transition to X is going pretty smooth here. Our first goal was to get Machine Definitions and posts worked out so we could make good code. We accomplished this in a day or two. Our next goal is to gain a thorough understanding of the new Operations Manager functions (machine def, control def, toolpaths, posts, verify, backplot, etc). This is going well. We will continue to design in version 9 to whatever extent is required to prevent excessive frustration and maintain our productivity. Lastly we will master the design tools of X. Based on my experience thus far it will be months before I am as productive in X as I am in v9. I didn't expect it would be easy. No pain, no gain.

Lucky did not mention that he has so far done this without any help from his dealer(me). He called last week and said he had it going and bout caused me to run off the road. smile.gif

I have had several customers call in since that have updated their stuff successfully on their own.

I sent out another email last week to customers recomending that they sign up for the forum, and alot have. If nothing else they can keep up the the the "drama of the stork"

Hardmill, Stork's phone sounds more like hic squawk hic. biggrin.gif

fellas i don't disagree about reading the manuals, rsbeadle i apologize if it came across that way. but as i said sometimes i pop on here with a question to get a 2 minute answer as aposed to spendin 20 minutes looking it up. and the definitions are usually clearer.

book : taken an integer of 2 and dividing it into an integer of 4 results in an integer of 2.

jimmy wakeford: 2 gazinta 4, 2 times.

Now which is easier reading????????

That is why I said it might be a good Idea to read the manuals.....

Hey Mark! smile.gif

Storkman would win a drinkin contest. Since my divorce became final a few months back I haven't been drinkin hardly any. Anyway after making Wayne blow chunks there was not much left to prove. biggrin.gif

Stork, I talk slow. Even for the south. We were at a bar in Atlanta and I went to order a jackNcoke and they said they couldn't serve me cause I was visibly intoxicated, which I wasn't (yet). I asked how'd they figure? to which they said your speech is slow. WTF! I am from the mountains. They might as well said I was retarded. Needless to say I was escorted out. And of course everyone seen it.

People are busy. I understand that. But rsbeadle is right. Most of the answers to your questions are in the Beautiful documentation CNC wrote.

Personally I hate reading anymore (my eyes are getting bad and I never have my glasses handy). That's why I make videos. People can see a video about a procedure and understand it right away. I can show them the important (see: Survival) information to get going quickly. So for those of you that cant take the time to read, wont read or even dont read, here is another option.

The other thing I see as funny in some of these postings is "Oh My God It's Different" "How Do I Make It Work Like V9" .

Change is not bad. Please take the time to look at the new features with an open mind. A LOT of thought went into these changes, FOR YOUR BENIFIT. CNC does not change things just for the sake of change. They are very careful to change things that show an improvment in a way to do something, or to conform to an industry standard. But they always give very serious thought to usability. Why do you think it took 3 years for X?

I have to disagree with that Mike. I may be wrong and this is only my personal view on "X". I believe that CNC Software felt that at some point, regardless of how well V9 performed in the old "dos" style software, they would need to create a new "windows" based software as all the other major CAD/CAM companies had done years prior to Mastercam. I disagree with your statement that it (X) wasn't industry driven. People look more and more, mostly "new" software purchasers, for the high glit, real pretty interface with all the flashy buttons. This does not mean that software performs better this way though. In my own personal experience with Mastercam X, I more than likely will stay using V9. I do not like X at all. I've been working with it since day 1 out of the box, and even put it back in the box a few times now. It just doesn't work for me right now, who knows maybe later on down the road it will.

That being said, Each of us will make there own decission on Mastercam X. Some love it some will swear by it. I look at it this way; If I never heard of a new Mastercam version, I'd still be using V9 and would still be happy.

At least everyone has been offered to opportunity to work with another version of Mastercam software. Like it or hate it, I still would have to say "Thanks for the the new opportunity,CNC Software"! But for now the old is still better than the new - FOR ME!
