Question for the forum,

Every one is saying how great X and X2 is.

How come whenever some one has a question of a problem they are having with the software one of the first answer they get is to reinstall the software or MD etc.

The answer from the reseller for any problems is it is being fixed in X3.

I use it every day and every once in a while it has a mind of it,s own and locks up and i lose all my work done from the last save.

Go to the File page of Sytem COnfig

Turn off "Include bitmap in file"

Autosave can cause this too..

Autosave is writing to the disc.. you don't know it and keep working.. Autosave is trying to save a moving target and crashes..

This is doesn't happen often with small files,

but big files can be a problem if you allow autosave to save without warning you.

X2 has a really excellent backup utility

See Files/Files/Backup...

It works, but you've got to turn it on

Routine System Maintenance is a VERY good idea. Defrag at least once a month, Delete files in your temp folders, etc...

I happen to ALWAYS have include Bitmap ON, and I use AutoSave. I guess there may be hardware/drivers that may cause issues with those other features but I have NEVER had issues with those.

I am with you, I have few computers working this way and never causes me any issue, but for sure it has helped.

Reloading your machine definition only takes a second or two. If someone sends me a file I need to finish up some work on, the mach def. will not be correct with what I have on my pc. Or it could just be an older file that you worked on that had a different MD. So I pick my machine def. and continue my job. That is to be expected.

Otherwise it can be like using your motorcycle key to start your vette.

The defrag program that I find really improve performance is Ultimate defrag. And I have used many of them. It is claimed to improve HD performance up to 300% of HD manufacturer's recommend performance. You select the files you use most frequently to go to the outer part of the disk, and the least used files to the centre of the platters. But you have to read the help file to do a good configuration. It works.

Before you bag MC or the forum, what are the specs on your PC, 486 or pentium 1?

This feature is done by the video card.

It takes a screenshot and injects it into the

saved file.

If it burps or hangs up during save, you wind up

with a zero byte file.

It was a MAJOR cause of heartache in V9. My early V9

machines crashed 100% of the time when I tried to use

it so I quit trying and never have used it.

Many people are reporting no problems with this function

in X2_MR2 so they mus have the kinks worked out, but...

If you're running a cheap video card and getting zero byte

crashes, this would be one of the first things I looked at.

Regardless, the backup utility will take most of the

pain out of a zero byte crash if you turn it on

and save at frequent intrervals.
