Resolved lag issues in X4

I noticed many have had lag issues, including myself. I solved the issues on my tube last night.

1) Take a screenshot of every page in the config file and print them on paper.

2) Close X4 and rename the config file.

3) Reopen X4 and a new config file will automatically be created.

4) Change all the config settings back to the values on your printed screenshots.

5) Close X4 and reopen.

Hope this works for you as it did for me.

That would explain why I don't

experince this lag.

I always build a fresh config file

from scratch when a install a new version.

I do the same.

I did have some lag issues but only on my large files.

Although I have stated this in another thread, its worth reminding.

Put memory buffer in conig/tools to 99% and see

if that also helps. the fresh config per

new install is the way to go.

Cheers

Rick

Clicking parameters on HST's used to take about three seconds. Now about 1 second. Opening the old style surfacing toolpath parameters used to take about 1 second. Now they pop up instantly. Selecting most icons on most toolbars would take about 1 second. Now they pop up instantly. Chris. I'm compiling you're request and will email it shortly.

I think that is what Chris will be doing. I just assumed there might have been something corrupt with the file. I still have lag with larger files, but that is expected and I'm not really concerned about it. But there is certainly a noticeable difference with the response time after a mouse click.

If you open a config file in a text editor

you'll see a bunch of file paths.

Most of them wouldn't hurt if they were wrong..

(like default path of dxf file conversions)

SOme of them are biggies, like where is mp.dll,

the brains behind the post proccesor.

A lot of guys just drag thier X2 or X3 config into thier new X4 install and go to work.

This means a whole bunch of stuff in your X4

install is pathed back to X2 or X3.

X4 may be looking for files in the X3 folder that

didn't even exist in X3.. that'll casue some lag..

Its A PITA but I build a fresh config file

everytime I install a new version.

Migration is supposed to do this for you, but I've had 1 too many migration disasters to

ever trust migration again.

I do think dragging and dropping old config files into new version install is the cause of a lot

of the trouble people have.

rest rough toolpath would crunch

IMO the rest rough is buggy.

Max it out and leave it it does not cause problems

it just uses more memory to work with.

Its like adding ram to your P.c. I have no Idea why it wouldn't default to the max, I also do this in X3 and X2

Maybe I ought to set it to the max again and run it that way for awhile and see if it results in any improvement.

Exactly! wink.gif

gcode, I run multiple versions, but the version I use (the latest version) is always installed into C:mcamx, older versions are then reinstalled into mcamx3, mcamx2mr2, etc... By doing this mmd/control/post/tool libs/defaults/etc... files work together seamlessly (not going to an unexpected directory) without any modification for the version that is used 95% of the time.

I printed all the pages that pertain to me. I didn't use the windows screenshot method though. I used a free program named "Greenshot" as suggested by some forum members. Works awesome since you can window the graphics that you desire and it will shrink the graphics onto paper when printing.
