2D Contour - ZigZag ? CNCsoftware

Was recently at a dealer organized Mastercam event that was attended by Mike Rosa,great guy who can relate to our problems as he uses the software to machine stuff just like us. Anyway he showed us a new option on the 2D contour toolpath - ZigZag, that basically keeps the tool down as it does its multiple side passes - very handy. But i can't find it anywhere, was sure that it was on the Cut Parameters Page in the Contour Type drop down. Wondering if he was showing us some of the new X7 stuff ?

Under Contour Ramp, there is a zigzag option.

I see an oscillate option ... but no zig zag

The only zig-zag available in 2-D contour operations is setting the drop down to ramp when machining an open contour, and set the type to plunge. It is possible to zig zag using 2D hishspeed though.

in the 2D dynamic toolpaths you have the option to zigzag

conventional

and zigzag

it was probably there that you saw it

Zigzag will work with any ramp option but only on open contours...

I'm MrFish's local tech support gopher, and he gave me a call about this.

 

I don't recall seeing it anywhere, and I have a funny feeling it might be something he saw that maybe he shouldn't have

 

Basically, he is describing a zig zag option for multipasses, where the tool ramps "sideways". It would be a cool option..

IMPLY KEEP TOOL DOWN for multipathes

YOU WILL GET SOMETHING CLOSE TO IT ,

NOT THE IDEAL ZIG0ZAG BUT SOMETHING CLOSE TO IT ANYWAY
