One good spinoff effect of this election is that it should drive a stake into the heart of Bustamante's political career.

and it'll torpedo any hopes of Grey Davis attaining higher office. Imagine running for ANY office when you're the ONLY sitting governor in the history of the US to be recalled. That's a helluva bemish on your resume if you ask me.

Arnold does not need my vote. He needs my recall vote which he's got but he has enough of a lead over Crook "I call African American folks the 'N' word to their face and like to do it" Bustamonte to clinch the deal. I've conceded that Arnold will most likely win but he'll not get my vote.

A retraction;

I just reviewed the official ballot explaination for Prop 53. It seems that my earlier posts about changing the supermajority for tax increases were wrong.

I could find no mention of that in the official

documents. My apologies for the disinformation.

I was born and raised in California, and have lived here all my life. The State has always had its problems, but it has always been the envy of the rest of the country. I have never felt embarrassed to be a Californian until Schwarzzennegger entered the gubernatorial race.

I've only heard two reasons to vote for Schwarzzennegger:

1) He's cool. Not exactly a position based on intelligent scrutiny of the issues, now is it?

2) He can win. See the above comment.

This belief that the worst Republican is better than the best Democrat (or vice verse) is a sure way to get us to the gutter. We don't even need to have actual candidates anymore, just someone with name recognition. They don't have to have any relevant experience or anything. After all, it's only the highest position in the State! Hell, they don't even have to have any ideas or knowledge. They can just say that, once they're elected, they'll hold a few meetings and start learning. Brilliant. I wonder how much some campaign staffer got paid to think up that one?

I don't know who to be more pissed at: Schwarzennegger for being so openly and candidly ignorant of any of the issues, or Republicans for voting for a lowest common denominator name 'because he can win', or Davis for being such a f***-up that he's gonna hand off the highest position in the state to someone with no more right to be governor than any one of us here on the forum.

And, y'know, it's really quite an accomplishment to beat out Larry Flint in the competition for biggest pig, but Arnie's done it. And he's admitted to it, too, in language that shows that he still has no concept of why his actions were objectionable. Of course, comments in the posts above show that some here don't get it, either. The same people who blasted Clinton for consensual sex see nothing wrong with their guy aggressively groping unwilling women. What if it was your 19 year-old daughter he tried to undress in the elevator? Or what if it was your wife that he groped in the gym? Would you really say that she should have been flattered?

You do know, don't you, that Schwarzennegger is a close personal friend of Kurt Waldheim? Yes, THAT Kurt Waldheim, the Nazi war criminal that the US won't allow into the country. Schwarzzennegger even invited him to his wedding, but he couldn't get in, so Arnie just toasted him, to the horror of the Kennedy's who were persent.

Arnie also spent over a million dollars buying up copyrights, notes, and records of old interviews, including the one where he praised Hitler for 'building himself up from nothing into a leader'. That's why you won't find the text of that interview. Just the personal accounts of those who were there. He then gave a million dollars to the Simon Weisenthal center as cover.

By the way, this is all old news. It's been out there for years, but that old 'Liberal Media', they just wouldn't cover the story, not when Arnold made such a colorful candidate. Yeah, the same media that covered Monica like flypaper, and eagerly tagged along for $90 million worth of investigation into 'White Water' (and finding nothing, btw). That darned liberal media. They're so unfair.

Do I sound pissed? I should, because I am. I am sick at what the right-wing is doing to our country and now our state. And you guys jsut go along with what you're fed by the right-wing media. They are dismantling the very foundations of our democracy. They are systematically taking the control of our country away from the people and putting it firmly and irretrievably into the hands of the super-rich, shattering the boundary between big business and government. They are merging the corporate state with the government state, which is the very definition of facism (as defined by Mousolini himself). It's not the government that controls the media and the corporations; rather it's the media, the oil companies, the energy companies, the telecommunications companies, and the defense companies which all control the government.

Did I get off target here? Not really. Again, just look at Arnold's idols; Hitler and Waldheim. And look at his meetings with Kenneth Lay to scuttle the State's lawsuit against Enron. Yeah, things are really gonna change under Arnold. For the better? Well, that depends on the size of your wallet.

I'll close my rant here with 3 promises about what will happen if Arnold is elected:

1) He WILL raise taxes.

2) California will be in a worse energy mess than 3 years ago.

3) I will personally take out papers to have him recalled.

Uhhhhhh, yeah. If you believe the media is driven by the COnservatives, I've got some property to sell ya, oh, and there's a nice bridge there too.

I'll give you this Mark, your post was clear and fairly concise. But some points were either wrong or taken out of their context.

I am faluting the Republican party for backing Arnold instead of someone like McClintock, someone who abides by the party platform and doesn't sleep with a liberal.

If you were to look at resume's, Grey Davis has got to have the finest one out there for Governor. Never had a real job in his life, Right out of college into politics. Moving up in the ranks. Been Lt. Governor since I can remember (even voted for him for Lt. Governor a long time ago - was the best candidate as far as I could tell then). Great set of credentials. He entered office with $12 Billion or so Budget Surplus. He's pissed that all away by hiring over 30,000 more state employees, signing those ridiculous long term energy contracts, pushing liberal social programs through. So I guess you can't always just look at the resume eh?

I believe that the State Constitution should be amended for the requirements of Governor.

[*]Be born in this state.

[*]Have at least 1 child

[*]Have worked a real job - and NOT on the public payroll either

I believe those three things would net us better candidates. The first one because if you're born here, you'll feel more of a sense of attachment than someone who's not. The second because if you are not handing over the state to your own progeny you won't have on a good perspective on how what you are doing today will affect your family later on down the road. The third, If you've not ever had to work for a business (not something with an unlimited supply of money and when the company runs out, they just put more bonds out there) to earn your paycheck you have not lived.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

But now I am victomized by the goverment of Cal.

Davis and his staff do nothing to promote our state. The seek mainly to get federal grants. We didn't even bother to make a request to have cal. concidered for the construction of the new 777.

So James i am not born here that mean I can be Governor? Not that I really would want to.

Mark I can tell you right now since I have lived outside of this state this commnet is complete and utter bullsh?t:

quote:

but it has always been the envy of the rest of the country.

I beginning to freaking hate it here a man who works honest and tries to raise his family is not going to make it in your great state unless he rasies his family in an apartment. A home here cost $500,000 to start around 10 miles from my work and if I want to commute 2 hours I can possible get a house for $350,000. Yeha i really envey having to pay that to have what most other people can have in the country for 1/4 to 1/5 of the prices out here. I think that 54 cents a gallon tax you pay and the $1600 tag tax and the $500 a dollars a month state tax and the $4000 dollars a year for good isurance you can keep.

Mark,

So you're saying the media would not cover these allegations against Arnold as a favor to the Republicans? How do you explain the LA Times waiting until a few days before the election, and then printing on the first page, three days running, "breaking news" about these women.

If they had been known about for years, how do you explain the timing? This is an tactic the media used (successfully) against the first Bush during his reelection bid. It is also what they used against the current Bush, and is arguably responsible for the tied presidential election.

To me, that's vote tampering.

As for Arnold and the Nazi's; as a young man he protested against the "new" Nazi's in Austria. It is documented that his comments were taken out of context, and a single word (don't) was omitted by the news story. This single word completely changed the meaning of what he said. I suppose that was an honest mistake?

Charges of Gray Davis shoving and humiliating women over the years have not been covered by the media.

This recall comes down to three choices:

1. Keep Gray Davis, one of the most blantanly corrupt and incompetent politicians of all time.

2. Elect Cruz Bustamante, maybe the only politician more corrupt in Califonia than Gray Davis.

3. Elect a Republican who can win, and that's Arnold.

As for experience, I don't think it's that important. If experience corresponded with quality government, there never would have been a voter revolt and recall in the first place.

Give me a good leader who is not corrupt any day over the politicians who sold their soul, and our great state, down the river years ago.

MOST of the people from Kalifornia are from somewhere else. I am a 5th. generation NATIVE Californian and I'm considering "alternatives". My oldest son is a Sophomore in High School and I'd never even dream of leaving before he graduated. He's worked so hard in sports and in school that it would be a huge dis-service to move him before he graduates High School. The day after though..... I've had it with the liberal slope the state is going down. It's only a matter of time before I'm giving away 1/2 of my paycheck to taxes. Already 25% of it gets taken at payroll time. Now tack on all the money in fuel taxes, sales taxes, Vehicle Taxes, MANDATORY car insurance and that number quickly approaches 40% for me and my family. Just shameful. Stinking Democrats! I hate their tax and spend ideology!

Millman - The only requirements to be Governor are to be a resident and be a US Citizen. That's about it to the best of my knowledge. Perhaps there is an age. Not sure about that though.

Arnie will have a very difficult time getting anthing done. If he wins, the partisan bickering

will be over the top.

He will have to work with a State Senate and

legislature which are 55-60% Democratic.

The Democratic party in California, and quite

a few Rebublicans are bought and paid for by

1. Trial Lawyers

2. The teachers union

3. Prison Guards union (the most powerful union

in the state)

4. State employee unions

5. Indian Casinos

The end result will be gridlock, which is a huge improvement over a state government which has

been rubberstamping the agendas of the above mentioned special interest groups.

Arnold may or may not be a good governor. However

what upsets me with everyone wanting to be a politician, is their experience levels. As an engineer whenever I went on a job interview I had to provide a resume and meet certain requirements, such as education and experience.

Would anybody in this forum hire somone to program or run your most expensive machine in the shop? I seriuos doubt it.

Don't get me wrong here, guys. I can't stand Davis for largely the same reasons as you guys. Neither am I fond of Bustamante, nor do I expect much to change under him. But here I am, ready to hold my nose and vote No Recall/Bustamante just to save the State from the kind of embarassment that Minnesota went through. I would have voted for either Riordan or Ueberoth in a heartbeat over any of the 3 main choices (Davis, Arnie, or Bustamante), even though I am (usually) a Democrat. 135 candidates, and they are all overshadowed by simple star power. No platform, no posiitions, no ideas; just a name and an image.

I see nothing, nothing, to recommend Schwarzennegger. Voting for him is simply an admission that name recognition and party affiliation are all that matters to you. He has not articulated a single position on a single issue, other than to say the system's broken and we have to fix it. Hell, anyone can say that (and most people could actually deliver the line better, too). From looking over the posts here, most of you can articulate the issues a hell of a lot better than Arnold. So why him? Would you vote for Michael Jordan if he was a Republican? How about Jeff Gordon? Or Shaquille O'Neil? What, specifically, makes Schwarzennegger qualify as gubernatorial material? Face it folks, it's just name and party.

Scharzennegger's candidacy has made a mockery of our electoral process. He has bumped aside all of the qualified Republicans, and reduced the level of political debate to an all-time low. He is the least-qualified person to ever stage a serious run for Governor. Voting for him is an admission that politics is nothing more than a football game anymore. People want their team to win for no reason other than that it's their team.

James, I agree completely with your 3 recommendations. And, in posting those, you have displayed greater gubernatorial (gotta love that word) potential than Arnold has ever shown.

James, your comments look extremely familiar!

:-)

I'm so confused by the talk here of Arnie not having ANY positions. Is the only place he has voiced any positions been on 'The Factor' a couple of weeks ago? I saw him voice opinions there, although that is the only place I saw him do such.

1) He said he would undo the stupid idea of giving illegal immigrants valid driver's licenses

2)He said that he would cut the unreasonable vehicle registration fee.

3) He said that he would go to government departments and tell them that if they can't figure out a way to cut 10% of their budget, that he will cut 10% of their employees. Seems like good motivation to me!

He didn't have any ideas on how to keep illegal immigrants from crossing the border, only that he wanted to meet with the gov's of AZ, NM, TX to discuss it..

Am I missing something or is it just the fact that he's saying he's gonna do this or that and hasn't described HOW he's gonna do it? My thoughts on that are "I don't hear much of HOW in ANY election races".

+1,000,000 !!!!

I think it's horriffic (sp?) what is going on and I can't wait until the dust settles to see what happens next. Man, this is like watching a car wreck at 200 MPH, only instead of a few people getting hurt, MILLIONS or people and familes will get hurt.

Mark, if a CEO of a Corporation/Company (or better yet the company you work for) were to have had the same performance as Davis, should he be fired or should he be allowed to "Serve out his term/contract?"

Thank You. I could not even be elected to a PTA Board because as a teenager I'm sure I groped at least one girl (though I can't recall who it might be, and I apologize profusely for disrespecting another human being in that manner, I smoked pot (and a LOT of it I will add) and engaged in other behaviour that had I been caught and convicted, I would STILL be serving time 16 years later.

Personally, I would have voted for Issa.

As far as Arnold goes, he's a fiscal conservative and a social liberal; which is where most Californian's are.

The fact is any person with strong conservative credentials, which means being anti-abortion, can't get elected in California. They'll be beaten over the head on the anti-abortion issue.

Silly as it is, because the Governer doesn't have beans to do with the abortion issue, it's a Supreme Court jurisdiction. It's as if you are PERSONALLY against abortion, you can't get elected regardless of how you will GOVERN on the issue.

I thought we, in British Columbia, had the market cornered on Payton Place politics (midnight payoffs in paper bags, skimming cash from gambling revenue, drunk driving holidays in Hawaii). I feel for your dismay.

I've heard that the Democrybabies errrrr Democrats have Recall papers in hand all filled out and ready to go. They just need to fill in the name. Round Two should be just in time for the March Primary. They can't admit that their leader should be burned at the stake, tarred and feathered, and hung in the town square. See there's too many people on the public dole, too many people blinded by single issues to see the bigger picture. NOBODY can tell me that Crook Bustamonte or Grey "Lowroad" Davis are the best Democratic candidates out there. If they are, and I were a democrat I'd be switching parties.

Arnold is a political novice and so was Ronald Reagan when he was elected governor of California. He was elected after being president of the screen actor’s guild and to my knowledge he showed the ability to unite people and lead the state like no other has since.

I too wish “Flat Earth McClintock”, as the local news talk radio station called him, was in the running cause I’d vote for him. (I guess if you do not tow the liberal line the media labels you as a non-progressive, right wing extremist but if you have radical ideas from the left you are called an “activist”) Those crazy konservative media types crack me up. As for Arnold not being able to articulate ideas –hell neither can Jesse Jackson but no one seems to be bothered on the left by his speech impediment. (I think he thinks it sounds important but we won’t let him in on the fact that he comes off sounding retarded.)

I’m still waiting for the “it’s all Bushes fault” statement. It works in any scenario and the people just gobble it right down. That was Grey Davis’s response to Larry King’s “hard hitting” questions the other night. I’m sure someone will weave it right into this thread soon enough.

When I vote tonight I will be sending a message to the idiots that run our state. Maybe Arnold is my second choice and a political novice but I’ll take a political novice / successful businessperson over a career politician any freakin’ day.

As for Arnold being anti-Semitic -I seem to remember Arnold being quoted many times through the years stating that Joe Weider, a person of Jewish descent, was like a father to him. Hmmmm sounds like a Nazi to me… confused.gif

A-ron out!

The Democrats have been collecting money

to fianance a court challege to the recall

if the vote is close.

If they lose by less than 5%, they'll be crying to the 9th District Court by the end of the week.

I've also read that it will be the middle of November before certified election results are available.

This is going to make the Florida recall look like a walk in the park!

I also believe they will pay a HEAVY price in November 2004 if they play the sore loser game again biggrin.gif
