so, i'm getting this message:

bad_tool.png

and it is pissing me off.  nothing seems to work.  I defined this tool by right clicking, create tool, drill.

What can I do to fix this?

Not much you can do trying to use the correct definition. I get the same thing from time to time and I lie by making a endmill or something and use it so I can do what I need.

I get this from time to time too. It's a tool I created then saved in a tooldb. I checked a couple other files it's used in and it's ok. I wish I knew what caused this as it happens randomly on various tools. Usually not custom tools. Not to mention the holder comes in correctly from the same db.

This started to come about when MC changed to the "improved" tool definitions. Not sure what release number it was, but it was when the stepped shanks and sfpm options were added. Most of the time I get this message is when the cut length matches the shoulder length on endmills. I also get the same with facemill are described in the same manner. I would suggest playing with those vales. Have not seen this on drills before. Try making the profile as simple as possible.

I get this from time to time.

For me, it's from an update of tool generation from old school X6 to the new tool manager add on in X7.

This is the part that gave me grief!  The non-cutting geometry drop down item showed a taper angle of 180° and when this was changed to 45° or similar everything was fine!

HTH.

Andy.
