Harryman,

He was communicating so why would the physical hook-up matter on this program?

The obvious differences in your code that works vs. the code that doesn't:

1) Start of file

2) No man-readable lines

3) I,J vs. R

4) No 'T' word

5) No reference return

.

.

.

The file you posted looks NOTHING like the file that works. I would take a random chunk [like ten lines] of your posted program and slap the first and last few lines of your proven program around it to see if you can get it to load. DON'T RUN IT, just try to load it.

BTW, do you have a real first name? I feel like a dipsh!t referring to people by their handles

I don't think you are alone with this statement. I am sure all of us here have made that comment before. It's the easy jobs that sometimes bite you in the @$$.

Have your teacher write out the changes made to the program and put up a before/after for us to look at.

Its always lovely when one problem goes away and another arises. Are we sure that that other problem is no longer a problem?

Anything alarm that says 'limit' in it usually means that the program is trying to send the machine outside of its working envelope.

Are you actually trying to run the program at this point?

For us to be much of any help to you we need the exact nature of any alarm you might get. It would also be very helpful if you dug out the manual for the machine and gave us their description of the problem since I don't think many of us are familiar with these machines.

yea, im actually trying to run the program now.

the machine..aye..well its pretty old i believe. small thats for sure.

im wondering, would the placement of the object in mastercam, like on the screen in relation to the point 0,0,0 effect the limits? if so, i think this might be the problem...lmk.

now, that G54 you speak of....what is that.

When a guy turns on the machine he has some kind of cold start procedure, That is for "machine home" X=0,Y=0,Z=0 .

In an earlier post in this thread you have a G54.

The G54 is for the part home.

You need to set how far the part is from "Machine home" and type it into the machines control. That's the basic logic of it,But i'm not that familiar with your machine's control to do a step by step.

As Scott said G54 is a zero shift from the machine's XYZ zero points to the location of the part zero within the machine. This is typically done by edge-finding the fixed jaw of your vise, sweeping a bore, etc and inputting the coordinates into a work offset register in the machine control. I noticed that in your 'working' program example there are no work offset calls; does your machine support work offsets using the G54-style calls? The posted program looks like MPFAN code; is it? What post created the code that is in the 'working' example? There are too many things going on here that we don't know to really troubleshoot this.

Something that I find really helpful is to model the machine table with fixtures, indexing locations and horizontal rotary, (all placed on different levels,)and then place the table's home position relative to MC's X0,Y0,Z0. Save the file as a machine specific setup and then merge the file to the part file when ready to machine the part. This gives me dead on placement for each type of machine when I position the part on the table. biggrin.gif
