SOLID HELP

Now you see this helix where you cheated and made it longer with more rev's?

This is going to cause an inconsistent number of syncs in our surfaces and might lead to difficulty adding fillet, could cause wavy surface or other problems.

I wish you would have fixed it correctly like I told you we will have to wait and see.  might not do anything,

For good models everything needs to be same same....

go on level 1 and use that outside helix like this and translate your sweep chins like pic and do sweep again

copy the top and bottom helix just like before.

Then create rulled surf chain #1

Then ruled surf chain #2

yes good!  make all the rest of the surfaces as illustrated above.  Yes those are branch points

after you do that....create face surfaces off two sides of your solid sweep and delete the solid.

attachicon.gif45.jpg

Then  make your trimming surves and trim all your surfaces.

ok here is the last phase....

After trimming you will need to make edge curves on top portion and cap it off with a flat boundary.

then final step is to create solid from surfaces with a .03 tolerance and its a done deal......

But before you turn it into a solid check all your surface normals.

well done..... and you are welcome....I hope you learned something....

I hope you see the wisdom of extending the helix's past part...

Glad to help and good luck.  BTW I used a 1.32 solid face to face fillet and it worked good for the valley radius.......

One last note to everyone:  This was my first real modeling job in X9.

I will have to say that I was very impressed with how well everything works now.

The new NX solid  kernel is really easy to use and one does not have to use the C-hook for creating helix's.

I would say this is the best version of Mastercam so far and I can't wait to see what future improvements are made in 2017.
