extended chuck jaws for 8 " chuck

Anyone know of a source for aluminum soft jaws for a Samchully HS-08 lathe chuck that can be machined to hold on a 13.25" OD?

I have done the same in the past. We made up a 100 sets of jaws one time at one shop in our slow time. We saved about 50% per jaw making them ourselves, but that was over 25 years ago before places started stocking them like they do now.

How'd you cut the serrations?

Way we used to do it was to edm up a 60 degree "broaching" tool, that had 7 or so teeth. Broach in the Y axis on an old vmc, while machining the rest of the profile. Only taking a small step down, but doing 6 teeth at once, with one tooth overlap.

I'd do it on the five axis with a dovetail cutter, but I don't have a wire.

60 degree engraving tool.

I make ours up when we are slow. Our Autoblock has 90 deg serations. I use a drill/mill cutter.

If you can tilt it and use a dovetail you'll get better cycle times and tool life.

1st place I tried.  That's been our go to place, must have over 100 sets on the shelf currently.....LOL!

We use a lathe threader. In a vise on end or on a  trunnion machine.
