Tapered Endmills

Everybody,

 

I have a need for a .046 tip 5 degree tapered endmill with a minimum flute length of .065. Does anybody know where I can buy these off the shelf? Carbide or HSS is fine as I am cutting 7075 Aluminum. I know I can make a tool, or profile it, but I'd like a source for 'miniature' tapered endmills because I need them a lot. I figured some of you out there (especially moldmakers) might know.

Sorry cant find it off hand but, I would contact Harvey tool they have in theyre little book I have 1, 2 and 3 degree carbibe down to .015 tip with .15 and up LOC.

I use Conical Tool for my tapered endmills. Been using them for 25 yrs with no problems. HSS and carbides. They will make custom tools if you give them info.

OK,

 

I've checked Harvey, and they have only 1, 2, and 3 degree tapers in their miniature sized endmills.

 

I checked OSG and they have nothing smaller than 3/32.

 

Conical goes from 1/32 to 1/16. The 1/32 would be ok, but I'd prefer the extra strength of the 3/64 diameter.

 

I can't custom order one because I need it in a couple days. I could make one, but it would be a hack job, and probably wouldn't cut all that long before breaking. I have to remove quite a bit of material, speaking relatively.

 

Thanks for your suggestions. Anyone else?

Paul, buy the 1/32 cutter and grind .089" off the tip. now you have a 3/64 dia.

We use SGS Inc. taper end mills exclusively. Fantastic product, consistent and they have great coatings too. Try them here. On page 25 and 33.

At Conical, look under whats new. They have Carbide mini's. In the 5° endmills, there are 2 3/64 mills listed. 1 has a 1/4 loc and the other is 1/2 loc

Try Award cutter they can grind what you need if they don't have it on the shelf. We use them all the time for tapered endmills.

get a new catalog from OSG they have a line of cutters called rib prossesing they go all the way down to .7mm i believe. you can get them with flat end or ball end.
