    5 axis toolpath help

We finally got some machine time and ran this part last week As always the Okuma VTM was superb. The tools were a Ø4" x .312W slotting mill for roughing and a Ø4" x .75W slab mill ground to make a 1P Acme form tool Despite the 14" long C5 Capto stack for arbors, the Okuma purred like a kitten. The posted code was flawless and the finished part looks great. We haven't been able to gage it yet though. The "gage" is a 60 year old 2000 pound shaft with 60 years worth of rust and battle damage. Our part is to print but will not fit on the beat up shaft without damaging critical ID's The customer is still deciding what they want to do about that.

    Editing Tools

Is there a way to edit tool definitions other than the "Edit Tool" Command? I was hoping for some sort of database or spreadsheet solution. I need to edit a lot of tools and doing them one at a time with Edit Tool is just too slow and cumbersome.

    Double sided chamfer mill issues

Math, that's how I always do it. It's a simple triangle to get the proper depth on a 90deg double angle cutter. Other than that, I usually end up drawing it to check my math.

    Haas blew up again

So here's the story. Haas came in on Friday and changed the spindle out. On testing the tec found a leak in the lube line above the spindle. He changed it out and retested and all is good. Spindle run in pgm was run with no issues. Lucky it was on their dime as the 90 day was in effect, by 2 days! i reset the probes, tools and reset the fixture with no issues. Parts are running now. (yea its Sat) I will say the Haas controller is the most friendly of all the ones Ive worked on. Now one thing changed 6 years or so ago. the lube oil changed from Vactra 2 to Mobil SCH 625 at Haas request. The reason is Vactra 2 takes on water and rusts the ball screws and bearings.

    Chip Trap

Our new Chipblasters replaced the filer bags with a chip trap. We use 5 micron bags on our other ones but there's still a layer of chip "mud" that needs to be removed on every coolant change.

    Tiny icons, regular buttons?

So I have no idea how it got changed, but some of the buttons on Mastercam have suddenly changed size. Whats really weird is that it's just the buttons in manager windows, but not in the main ribbon. The text that comes up in the prompt windows is also really tiny. I can change the font size from the manager options (down arrow next to the pin) but this doesn't change the size of the buttons in the manager windows. Anybody know how to get it changed back?

    Double sided chamfer mill issues

i posted how i do it recently here
  25. May the powers that be please enlighten me as to how one would go about using a double sided 45 degree chamfer mill to deburr front and backside profiles. I have achieved this by modifying a key cutter to represent the tool geometry (.125 wd cutting edge with 45deg angles front and back) but by doing so I cannot use the "2d chamfer mill" parameter. So I'll adjust my numbers and lie to the program to get the tool to work... Not the most preferred method but it gets it done.. I cant help but feel there is a better way to go about this. I'd love to be able to just select my solid edges and use the chamfer mill parameter and have the control recognize the tool. Unfortunately I can't include a file for this particular part but just imagine you want to edge break the front and backside of a gear using an axial live tool in a C+Y axis lathe.

    Threadmill Operation Bug? WIerd quirk

Threadmill has had this "feature" for ever. It was put in intentionally, and it's a pain in the xxxx. I do a lot of double lead threads and it's always messing me up; I have to keep checking and resetting the pitch. At least we can use TPI other than whole numbers now; usedta couldn't for a bit.
