  1. Is this a simple array of positions and you are using the G81 cycle -or- are you using all G01s for the motions for everything (longhand)? G81 is your best friend and if your post will not spit it our, get MPMASTER.
  2. Does the refresh/repaint fix the problem? I don't think that the geometry will be affected, only the graphics display as GCode points out.
  3. Peter, Are you an advocate of Canned Cycle Output?? I am of two camps depending on the type of shop that I am at. If quick changes are needed to adjust DOC right at the machine etc, then the canned cycle approach is what you want. For the more elegant approach, I would stick with the line by line execution as the Canned Cycle really doesn't have an elegant re-start sequence. Secondly, lets think a minute about tooling. For using undercuts, a weaker edge (MDJNR or Equivalent) would be neccessary and this would defeat the purpose of using a "Roughing" operation which is get the material off fast! [Webmaster - Removed the somewhat incendiary comments in order to keep the peace. Behave children.] [ 10-06-2002, 11:39 AM: Message edited by: Webmaster ]
  4. Chris, Sounds like Jim would be giving you the finger at this point... Ooops, he would have if he still had it! LOL
  5. Has the lack of coordination between the Lathe and Milling tool managers given difficulty to anyone else with Mill/Turn applications? Please advise of when these two entities will be aligned. The functions for sorting, display and manipulation in the Turning Tools are the preference. Others please chime in as the more the merrier and the further up the "Development" list my query will go!
  6. Chris' method is just the right number of "Significant Digits"...
  7. Think about this guys... Props can also be used in movies and the like. He is designing in Light wave and then exporting DXF?? I am sure any Propeller manufacturer would at minimum be using a proper 3D Modelling suite...
  8. Untill Ernie reports in with a definitive answer, lets look at what they are telling you. The diameter is perfect within .0001" and the form is out .009 - 90 times worse that it really is... Where are the projection references set to? These machines will project everything back onto a datum plane and this could be some of the problem. Ask them to check the feature manually and when they can't do that, show them how. Get a copy of the latest GDT manual and then hold a training session. It is obvious that the result from the CMM is not being interpreted/applied correctly. I had the displeasure of working with some JackA$$ that had one year's experience 25 times over telling me that my parts were wrong... When in fact, he didn't know what he was looking at!
  9. Never ever use a dwell to do this! This is illegal, immoral and unethical to ask a person to race against the machine. With that said, contact the machine builder and ask this question. What you are looking for is a function that will require the user to press the cycle start to continue thru the catchment (or whaterver word that you want to call it). Alternativly, use a single block disable code around the part of the program that you want to run automatic and have some fancy block skip functions that will allow the program to stop. See below. O1111 G90G80G40G17 G91G28Z0 N1 M33(SINGLE BLOCK DISABLE - LOOK THIS UP) T1M6(TOOLCALL) G90G54X0Y0S1200M3 G43Z2.H1 ... G91G28Z0 G91G28Y0X0 M34(SINGLE BLOCK ENABLE - LOOK THIS UP) /M30 N2(PROGRAM WILL HANG HERE...) G0T0 1 (OR M99 IF CUSTOM MACRO B NOT AVAIL) M2 Run this program with the block skip and single block on! When you want the program to stop execution, then remove block skip and the program will halt at the end of the program. The single block will require an operator to hit the cycle start to move thru N2 and return to the start of the program. I have't tried this on the machine, but do a little research to see if it can be done and report back any success or problems. Regards, Andrew PS - These and other techniques are available from Mike Lynch at www.cncci.com
  10. Mick, I also offer my testimonial here to the success of the Sandvik Hard Cut Drills. They are essentially the Single Lip Solution stated earlier on in the thread. Here also is an idea, since you have some good thickness, use something called a keensert which is a solid threaded unit and then drill and tap the hole in this "Steel" insert in the proper position.
  11. Glenn, You are right, I was not able to retain that default the way that I changed it. Using the method outlined by Trevor et al, I wsa able to complete the change. Thanks,
  12. The exchange of posts that accomplish the interface between machine and Mastercam should, can, and are interchanged amoung the legitimate users of the system - for free for the commodity type posts for 3+1ax machines. The proliferation of 5ax technology is where the posts are so specific to the machine that the exchange between users will not occur as there are barriers of entry that most "Pirate" shop wouldn't be interested in outlaying anyway. Peter E - your original post should have been, "How do we keep pirates off our Forum!!"
  13. Dave, Looks like Anthony is using the whole world as a testimonial case... All I can say is that a Dave Thompson post is the one that I would buy!
  14. What is a 5 1/4" floppy ?
  15. Who amoung us has an Integrex with VDI shanks on the turning stations?? I also would like assistance as far as who teh manufacturer of the holders was and if there were any problems associated with these said holders. I have had a negative experience and will share after we get some feedback here.
  16. Scroll bar along the side and bottom of the screen to act as pan operations.
  17. Mitutoyo has their own propritary software format on the CMM's but the vision machines can be interfaced with CADPAK which is software that interprets a dxf or other type file. Demis is supposed to be a new standard for inspection. Never had the pleasure/gripe to work with it though. James - Never had to worry about a CMM eh??? Why is that, you never had to make anything to specification?? LOL
  18. Kathy, The fanuc 21 should have paramters in the manual that you look up and then determine the settings for CIMCO. Do you have the manuals for this?? Doesn't the i stand for something where it can exist on the network somehow with out using a DNC system? [ 09-27-2002, 12:46 PM: Message edited by: MfgEng ]
  19. Poly Chrystalline Diamond - PCD How many of you wood guys use this stuff?? [ 09-27-2002, 03:48 PM: Message edited by: Andrew McRae ]
  20. Chris, Maybee you and Thad could start your own forum...
  21. Glenn, It is that odd radius surface at the top of the lock face. We used a ballmill and I wanted to switch it out for a bullmill with undercut relief to profile the whole thing, but the first cut jumps all over. I will try the tolerance and get back...
  22. Mill/Turn operation. Using a "Bull Nose" style tool create a radius on the edge of an extrusion screw. The first cut, where the blend radius meets the outside diamter of the screw flight, the cutter is jumping back and forth across the flight instead of remaining tangent. After the first pass, the cutterpath is stable and will produce a good result. My question is, should I modify the geometry of the blend radius to acount for this error or is there some settings I should be looking at with Flowline??
  23. Glenn, I have removed the check from the "Assign tool numbers sequentially" and then hit the save button on the screen configure page. It worked and this accomplished what I was looking for. What is your preferred method for this?
  24. Good on ya Greg, No Worries mate...
  25. Are there any personal vices to having animals present in the room during "Marital Relations"? This can get quite wierd...
