Backup files does not require Auto save.
Correct. When you save, your working file will be saved as usual,
in addition a backup file will be saved as you designated in the config.
Edit:
Be sure to to cleanup your backup directory occasionally, just checked mine, 119 GB.
Create a machine group named foo:
CreateGroupFromName( "foo")
Create a toolpath group within foo:
SetCurrentGroupFromName("foo")
SetCurrentGroupFromName will create a new toolpath group using whatever default
name you've defined in your system configuration (typically Toolpath Group-[num]).
In order to change the toolpath group name you'd then need to iterate through your groups
using the Get / Set utility functions.
This is in X5, YMMV.
I implemented / administered Vista (prior to they're acquisition by Epicor)
at a job shop I was at in the early / mid 90's. We were very happy with it.
I have no current experience with it, but I do know that shop
is still a happy user.

After actually looking at the xml file I see no Simulation Engine options. Hmm.
Maybe it's just a matter of editing the source code & recompiling the dll.
You need to manually edit the defaults file:
(This is documented in the Simulator help, Home > Mastercam Simulator > Setting default options)
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\my mcamx7\MastercamSimulatorDefaults.xml
Not as simple as you'd think, but here are a couple options:
1: Select "copy image to clipboard" from the "Screen" pulldown menu,
paste the contents into a new paintbrush document, save the document
in your preferred format.
2: Same as above except press Ctrl + PrtScrn, rather than using the Mastercam command.
3: Install a pdf printer & print to that, I'm partial to pdfcreator, http://www.pdfforge.org/
Sure, import the stl as a mesh (options button on the open dialog), it'll come in as a single entity.
It's really only good as a visual comparison, you can't use any analysis tools or manipulate it.
Brian, guessing your reseller is Shopware?
They have a pretty good Active Reports template available.
Attached is a sample of what we hacked up out of it.
Thanks. Yeah that's an alternative. Although it's pretty cumbersome & only allows
viewing the current or all operations, I find it really disrupts the flow of things.
I often inspect toolpaths while rotating / panning / zooming (using SpaceExplorer).
X7 hides the toolpath during any view manipulation, previous versions don't.
Perhaps I'm missing a configuration option somewhere?
See the attached videos demonstrating the issue...
That would be appropriate if "Relative to" is specified as "Tool Plane X axis", not so much for "Cut Direction".
Think of "Tool Plane X axis" as an absolute value, "Cut Direction" as incremental.
I use "Direction" more often than not. Like a lot of things Mastercam,
it kinda sorta works. Not sure how to explain it, but if you experiment
a little it'll make sense eventually. Coming from other software, the
ability to fully control engages / retracts is something I really miss.
Here's how I set my default "Direction" settings:
Sorry to drag this thread further off topic.
I actually just now noticed it, while selecting Circle Mill to chamfer some pillar holes.
I've never used it. Don't cut many slots here, when I do I'm most likely gonna helix down
it with a Contour path.
Just chain one side (single line) of the slot, set your comp to computer, done.
Then you don't have to create additional geometry.
Lets see how many different ways we can cut a, slot, who's next?
