I use D values (dia.) for cutter comp G41 G42
ex.G41D22 for op1 or G54 position then G41D23 for op2 or G55 position, same tool but different machining situations allows me to fine tune how deep(left or right not Z) my form tool goes.
G10(workshift) I don't use alot but between identical pallets running the same programs the only difference being XYZ positions is when I do use it.I'm sure it's pretty useful to some more familiar with it.Started using it on the lathe but went back to G54 and G55.JM2C
"It's possible based on cutting conditions that the offsets are very close but a bit different. When using the same tool on many different contours, we often use a different "D" offset since each feature is likey to cut different based on the feature and the amount of rough stock.
Also, to make a statement about "doing something stupid" when you may not know what the user is doing is just flat out rude. Their is good reason why fanuc has "H" and "D" offsets and does not just use tool number."
I agree.
I've special ground form tools needing different D values from G54 to G55 also. TLO is usually done in the same T register# Z LO and adjusted as usual in G54 and G55 (or whatever G56 etc.) Z difference there is. HT makes sense.
For what you want, you probably will be stuck with manual entries for now.
Thanks again for the info and for the edit,we got plenty of centercutting EMs, never heard it called slot drill but at least it wasn't a "left handed smoke shifter or snipe hunt"sort of thing.Have a good one.

Thanks for the pointers. This will be a thru hole when complete. Actual thickness .625, sliced off a 2.5 bar and repeated. Would it be O.K.to advance my stock with the bar feeder only and no stop ? the bar feeder is an MTA super 80 and seems to advance pretty accurately..my reminant is about 3 inches long, I think heavy enough to resist sliding out farther than the push. Right now I'm doing face, OD work then ID,cutting off, advance and repeat. Thanks again for the advice.

new at lathe, have a hole .8 deep 1.3125 dia.,would it be better to progressive drill then ream or circ or pocket mill then ream?BTW we have live tooling and Y on the lathe of course.TIA

rapid 0(usually still rapids a "some" rate),feed slow (hand on the knob adjusting from 0 and up),single block,"distance to go" window open, and if the code doesn't "look right" it probably means you've got a problem.HTH
Like your sig Ron, I always aim high so if I fall short it's not that bad, aiming at your "target" and falling short, is. Your post is a great inspiration to many and falls on deaf ears to some.
we have the mill/lathe bundle for our Eurotech 730 SLY mill/turn w/ sub and Y axis, only one turret.. using MCX3 and a post from our reseller, until we get the post tweaked just right, some editing still required, but overall MC does the job fine.
Nothing personal, but it almost sounds like we need a 'complaint forum'.
Allot of good ideas come out of criticism but it has to be constructive..any new software is going to have it's downside but the new software's upside will hopefully out weigh the negative..that said, I think if you don't have maintenance, whatever version you do have, to a point, should be fixed since you already paid for it.If it's replaced with a "new" version though, then, being as there are no more MR#, SP# or whatever it's called this time, for the version you have, then your SOL...now if the "new version" isn't something that will only, for the most part, "fixes the bugs" then massive whining (ie. constructive critcism) would be in order..

superman,I tried all that and could only get a bunch of toolpath groups directly below the machine group couldn't do op1 toolpaths then a new tp group..finally dropped a op1 toolpath between two tp groups and it put tp group 2 at bottom of my toolpaths as I wanted but what a PIA.I'm sure it's something else I'm not doing right, should be able to do toolpaths and select new tp group and be done just like v9.1
