Yup, i used log tables, my first cam system was Anicam, then around 1987(bit fuzzy on the timeline), i moved onto version 3 (mastercam), one of the shops i worked at, still uses V5 & 7, i try to sub contract work their way sometimes, my favourite version of mastercam was X6, loved it, refused to move onto X7 & X8, my employer forced me onto X9 at the time. So that is 30 years using mastercam, really showing my age here !
absolutely true, this part requires major investment, and if it is a one off, they will be scared off by the price, that is probably the best way to get the designers to look at their design again, P.S. i was not having a dig, i was horrified when we got the quote for air gauges ourselves, my boss`s face was a picture !
We put an enquiry out for air gauges. These are most definitely not cheap !!!
I visited a company last year who had purchased a small range of air gauges 100,000 pound later !!!
I programme screw rotors, all lathe work and milling work, are done using the top wcs, when turning i set my datums(usually g54/55/56) from inside the operation parameter page, i have used this method since X6, and have had no problems EVER, as i said previously, only opening a file, but i have found a "workaround" for this
The only crashes I have experienced, are with opening a file, it still happens, I can create and alter/edit tooling with no crashes, but..... I have found recently, on the file opening issue, if I start mcam, then wait a few minutes before opening, no crashes, this was entirely by accident.
P.S. I did not like mcam2017 initially, but using it for a few weeks, it has become second nature !
G code, i used to machine this mtl years ago, i dont remember the speeds/feeds used, but, this mtl needs to be rough machined, then left to settle, it will move quite considerably.
Barry, why not try lathe dynamic rough, I have been experimenting with this tool path, it is very fast, and easy to control. you need to use a round insert though, for some reason, I cannot attach the file, so below is a screen shot
Tim,
you can export the levels from mcamx9, by right clicking in the levels manager, this saves them as an ascii *.csv file, i am not a solidworks user, but it must be able to import, an ascii file ?
Ron, that is pretty much the toolpath. I only use this method with "contract" parts, where i need a quick turnaround, i prefer the high feed method, to machine our rotors, but that has a lengthy programming time.
thanks for the info Josh, i will give this a try, when i showed my re-seller, the hypermill path, he contacted CNC software, to see if Mastercam could do anything similar, but i have had no reply.
