Couldn't agree more. Those guys set up our large Okuma 5axis head/table at one time and they have done a much better job than Okuma themselves, lol.
I think James recommended them to me.
Ron,
EZ5 assumes that probe is set perfectly spot on. The biggest problem I seem to see is that TLO (combination of gage length and COR to top of table) is often out of whack, which throws EZ5 out of whack giving you wrong numbers. To be fair, EZ5 will work great if my overall accuracy is about .0020, so it's a very quick and easy way of confirming if the machine wasn't whacked during the previous shift.
When we bought our first 5 axis everything was set supposedly spot on. After we run EZ5 to set parameters, my test part that I programmed for this exact purpose was off (.002+/-).. Needless to say we rechecked lasers, probe and everything else few times but could never get EZ5 to get us close on the test parts.
Matsuura worked hard with us on that one. We ended up using the actual test part to adjust parameters and got it easily to under .0005, which worked for me.
After this, Matsuura applications created their own, a little simper test part together with an easy to use spread sheet that we all can use to adjust the parameters. You run the part, measure it, input the difference in the spread sheet and it gives you the numbers that you need to input in the machine parameters. That simple.
At least that's been my experience.

The way I do it on a 5axis when using fixture (I don't have to do it when cutting from stock) is:
-Indicate fixture flat (A and C) and input the rotations into G54.4 fields of the program
-indicate XYZ and input the difference from programmed position into G54.4 fields of the program:
Sample:
(SET G54.4 P1 WSEC)
#26010=-0.0002(X)
#26011=0.0029(Y)
#26012=0.0003(Z)
#26013=0 (a)
#26014=0 (b - DO NOT USE)
#26015=0 (c)
#26016=0 (A)
#26017=0 (C)
This will populate the right parameters and you're ready to go, assuming your kinematics are correct.
BTW, EZ-5 is a gimmick. Almost useless.

Is someone here selling those? Better price than the 3dconnexion web site? My old space pilot broke and I've been using navigator for a while. I'm missing several buttons, so thinking about getting space mouse again.
TIA
I deal with this all the time. I revert to multiple stock models to avoid air cuts. I started a few threads complaining about the inability of MC to recognize "mushroom" shaped stock. I don't see it being fixed anytime soon though, lol
We can adjust parameters on our matsuura 5axis machines to within .0005 in ALL 5axis fairly easily with a small test program. I bet we could get it tighter than this if we needed to.
Not surprised by the haas performance though. There is a GOOD reason they're so much less expensive.
Guys and gals at CNC Software used those (sit/stand adjustable) when I was there. I should probably get one myself since I work from home. Sitting too much is NOT healthy.
I have one, but the adjustments might be tricky for you. I know Sean created his own part together with spreadsheet to calculate the adjustments (after fighting thru our test and making adjustments) . I suggest you contact him as well. PM me your contact again.
We got everything to within .0005 or less at any rotation/position. I need to get his part too. We just bought another matsuura 5 axis.
Even with EZ5, you don't necessarily will get good number, as it depends on your probe being setup perfectly.
We run a test part for that purpose to verify the parameters.
James, can you share that with me as well? I'm after any and all info/tricks that can get me to as perfect numbers as possible.
TIA
I'm still on the fence about the machine sim. Tried it and wasn't too happy, but maybe I didn't give it much of a chance since X9 or so.
Camplete and Vericut together give me almost 100% confidence...almost
Really strange that it thinks it's a concave cutter. I'm assuming that you checked the geo. Have you tried defining cutter manually? I have had trouble with using dxf on few occasions.
Just for kicks, adjust LOC of the tool to a little over .050 doc that you're running it at and see if it tricks it?
Strange, I just got a response from cgtech that:
The MasterCam 2018 to Vericut interface is not yet ready, we are working on it. I will enter a request in your name this should get you notification when it is released.
<head-scratch>
Does anyone know if the MC2018 plug ins are available for Vericut V7 and V8?
IS the same plug in working for both versions?
CGTech has been slow with the response...
TIA
