I have been using lathe since version 3. I have some mill experience but mostly lathe and mill turn. I am using x2 and what i am trying to do is mill 4 flats on a piece of 4.25 dia. stock finishing at 2.185. the question i have is how do i make the contour toolpath recognize the diameter of the stock to eliminate the air cuts? it seems to me this should be simple and i am just missing something.
thanks
dan
Chris,
I tried shifting it on the zero set page and nothing happened that what prompted this post. When I entered the number in the zero shift colum and left the page it went back to zero

I have been running an Okuma cadet lathe with a osp700L control on it and i can figure out how to shift all my tool offsets at 1 time like u can on a fanuc using either g54 or the common work offset. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
Dan
We have a Hurco vm1 and i can save programs from the machine to the pc no problem but when i go from the pc to the machine i get nothing. I am using cimco edit v5 to transfer files.
The machine settings are
Protocal = level1 cts/rts
Baud Rate = 9600
Source/dest = memory
the pc settings are
port = com1
stop bits = 2
parity = even
Baud Rate = 9600
Data Bits = 7
Flow Control = hardware
The control on the hurco is a ultramax.
Thanks in advance
Dan
Hi All,
We are looking at a Hurco VM1 and i am looking for opinions on this machine. we currently only have Fadals so i am wondering about the learning curve for the operators and what everyone thinks of this machine.
Thanks in advance

Hi all. I haven't posted here in a while. I started a new job running Okuma Lathes and they are definitly different from what i am used to. The problem I am having is I can save a program to the PC but when I try to load it back to the machine I get a message saying the file names do not match. I saved program ABC.min to the pc and the first line looks like
$ABC.min
so at the machine i push the read button than ABC.min and get the alarm i discribed above. I am sure i am missing something simple.
thanks in advance
I installed mcx2 mr2 on my new laptop with windows 7 and i get the .exe not valid! when i try to launch mastercam. I tried changing the compatability but that didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?
They made a switch here about 6 months ago for lathe software. The biggest problem with the switch is enginering likes the new software so much i havn't had a chance to use it yet.
[begin rant] where i work now I got hired to program the mill/turn with mc9. after the first couple simple jobs jobs i got 1 that i had no clue how to do in mc. after some research i talked the company into buy espite. The problem with that is enginering likes it so much i am back to being a setup/operator. Hopefully one day i will get my chance again. Did I mention I have only been programming with mc since 1990.
[rant over]
I am not sure if this applies to what you are tring to do but at my previous job we had a post mad by inhouse for our mori mt-253 where i could swing the B axis and do what I needed to do. foe example I had a part where I had to rotate B 35deg. and move Y .4 then drill 12 hole around the dia. the post I received worked perfect with no editing.
we have a Nakamura Tome WT-300 and are having problems getting the c axis lining up for the b axis grab which is resulting in the mill work in on the sub spindal to be out of oriantation. does anyone know of a code or somthing that would make sure the spindals are oriantaed together during the grab? thanx in advance.
Dan
Steve I am new to this company and yes the do have a post but I think it is modified and I am not sure yet if it is any good.
I have done some surface milling but the last couple years I have spent more time laid off than working so I am a little rusty at it.
I have played with the model I sent you and I think finish spline looks good but I am not sure what to use for rough. Thanks for your help.
