Hi, wildcat99. It is aaways a good idea to make a backup copy of your surfaces on the other level . Then try to do Create-> Curve ->project with trim active (Y) . You can do Create-> Curve ->Slice with trim active (Y) . And you can always do Create->Surface-> Trim to curves .

HI. Here in Israel almost everybody works with Cimatron. The home price is different far less then MC. And they have a lot of support here. I personally used it too. Yes this is very powerful program. And their new fully Windows API version Elite will be even more powerful in near future . But... I hate it .Simply hate it for 10 years used it starting from ver9.0 and hate it even more now. May be for the same reasons that I so like Mastercam. You have a 1000 possibilities to make mistakes. I learned Mastercam by myself at home using demo ver 5.5. No way guys for you to do this with Cimmatron . I bet for anything. After 6 hours starting from stretch I wrote my first good 3 axes program . Try to do it with Cimmatron after 6 days - alone I mean. Why I like Mastercam - IT IS SO SIMPLE ! you can start using it and slowly raise your user level higher. the menues have their strait and simple logic . If you don`t know where to find some command you know where to look for it. And far less bugs . And the code is far more accurate. And they don`t have such a wonderful forum. And ....... and........ And........ LoNg LiVe MaStErCaM !/

BryGuy! When I started to work as a cnc operator long time ago the first thing I`ve done was to read all Fanuc 6M manuals. You know what -they had about compensation smthn like 200 pages! All this pages where very interesting stuff and they gave me an understanding of the process. All the machines have limitations in compensation calculation starting with a buffer length or the mathematical algorithm they use. So I would recommend you to open manuals and to carefully read about this stuff. Jamman ,you are pretty right ! When YOU CHECK comp in control , THE MASTERCAM GIVES YOU THE NAKE TRACE only the real dimensions. It is YOUR responsibility and of your controller. And when you will not check optimize ,you can have an overcut too ,that is a really bad thing to have.

metalcut ! Can you put to the ftp a file to give us an idea why do you broke the cutter. I personally never broke any. In such jobs you always must have a creative way of thinking . For example you can put for leftover one ore more cutters and you will reduce the time of machining too like ball 6mm ,4,2 ,1mm and not 6mm and 1mm. Sometimes it is good to use flat end mill tools or bull nose not ball mills. And you can change collapse -> override automatic resolution calculation % of leftover and reduce it. Ypu can reduce a maximum stepover.

Heeler ! Optimize check box is to avoid bottle necK undercut. In other words if it is not checked you can cutting some entity with a cutter bigger then slot undercut another one . When it is checked Mc will build maximum possible entrance avoiding undercut. I changed my defaultes and checked it by default.

For ver MC8.1.1 Try this screen ->next menu -> plot : win driver yes , color -yes , chg params -> preview paper size -A3, setup ->choose your printing device Any way if you don`t manage , you can always do ALT + Print Screen (this puts image in buffer), open your program like MS Paint or other ,paste an image in it and print from there. Bullines ! The Softmac requires for stable work rom card. Even with it it has more bugs than Basilisk or Fusion. The last two are stable like rocks and work nice with sound support ,cd-rom support and network.Works with MacOS8. Not emulate PPC. Vmac emmulates only Macintosh Plus and because of it you do not have colours and can emulate only up to MacOS7.5.5. My First Cad-Cam at work was AuraCad-AuraMill and because of it I am slightly Macintosh crasy.

Hello ,Bullines ! You can get Vmware demo version. And you can find it even in some distributives. I saw it in some. Personally i prefare Mandrake over Red Hat . My first linux was Red Hat 4 with Xwindows manager TWM. At home I have 3 self made PC`s and in all I have one Linux version minimum. The WINE is a good program THAT IS A PAIN to configure for the complex programs . You configure it by hand taking in mind all specific devices directories and so on. I tried Intellicad on Wine .Not very stable. I used to play windows games on wine that`s all. But linux is a far much better OS than Windows. And far more comfortable when you Know it. And never you will have the blue screen of death. But I think it will never be introduced seriously in business cause most of users are computer illiterate people and LInux been are UNIX clone demands a good knowledge base . OFF topic - How many of you people saw Macintosh emulation on PC ? For example Basilisk under Linux or Windows ?

Hello ,guys! First of all this guy likes pipes. In Russia when you are doing something for a friend or even a friend`s friend you don`t take money . When I doing something for friends some metal cutting work , repair computers and so on I NEVER doing it for fee . It is destroing friendship . So I want to make a present - something nice . I am drawing a model now I will make engraving on it to make some nice looking stuff. And I know what sort of wood to take . Only I never before made pipes. But I will. And I think that for smoker to use pipe is far more better than to smoke cigarettes.

Hi ,All. I use to assemble and repaire at home computeres . Speaking about AMD - it simply rocks. With a good motherboard it is far more faster ,reliable then Intel and very stable too. If you remember a couple of years ago there were problems with AMD under NT and Linux . NO problems now and speaking about Mastercam with my experience no problems at all. Then what stops people from using it -the magic of the name which is famouse for their former reputation not relating the actual situation. And my preference not to use ATI ,even Radeon is not a card for cad works . Even in games GeforCe 2 is better . Simply install Unreal Tournament and have a look at the difference. Speaking about Ide disks go with Maxtor not western digital . For five last years I changed to people a lot of defected hard disks 90% of them western digital . They simply tend to die after 3 years MAx if they are over 3 GB . Motherboard -Gigabite . System windows 2000 or NT service pack 6. Memmory DDR . And good luck and have a fun with your PC.

Hi, good people ! I have a suggestion. I work a lot with electrodes and other stuff that must be for example -0.07 or -0.3 less per side. That means that not only surfaces also contures and their heights and so on. It will be nice to define at start of work parameter smthing like A= 0.07 and afterwards use it like surface offset=-A height =-14-A and so on. So for the second part you can change only parameter A and regenerate your toolpath. Do you like the idea ?
