  1. Thank you very much Jim. These are 1 to 2 pieces at the most and I was able to attach the model in my First post if you'd like to take a look at it. How difficult is it to remove the urethane from the part? Do you have to scrape it away or does it come off in chunks? Thanks again!
  2. Thanks guys. The part is from a solid billet of aluminum. I've searched for an example of window framing but I'm not having much success. Any ideas where I can find some? I have watched that video by Karlo Apro but I'm struggling with all of it to be honest. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks I got the file to upload as x7 as well.
  3. XXXXX.01.03 INLET TANK.MCX-7 Hello everyone. I'm new to 5 axis but I've taken in-house solutions 5axis and both mastercamU Multiaxis courses. We have a Haas VF-4ss with a TR210 trunnion. Running X8 and using the Generic Haas VF-TR_Series 5X Mill post. My questions are as follows. 1: What is the best way to hold this part? Can this be held in a Raptor dovetail? 2: What toolpaths would work best for roughing and finishing this part? 3: Other than a lolipop for the inlet port will I need any special tools? I know of Harvey tool but what other manufacturers should I be looking at? 4: Anything I should look out for in regards to machine/control def and post processor settings? I was able to upload the file as x7 Cheers!
  4. Yeah, there is an option in the backplot settings where you can turn off the rotary axis simulation. nvm as I wrote this you answered yourself lol
  5. If you draw a boundary around you want to remove, you then go to toolpaths, trim. Select the boundary you created, then the side you want to keep and that will delete that area of the toolpath. There is likely another reason why it's making this move. A gap in the surface, a tiny surface you can't see unless you zoom right in. It would be best if you could upload the file with the toolpath. hth There is probably an easier way but that's a quick and dirty one I know.
  6. Thanks Guys! I guess I'll have to wait until I get back on the machine and start posting some code to see how our post works. Then find what's best for our parts. I'd like to hear what people do in Tony35's situation above?
  7. I'm a complete noob to 5-axis other than taking the MastercamU 4axis rotary and 5 axis courses and I today was day 1 of 5 axis training at inhouse solutions. I'm getting some conflicting information from MastercamU (Mike Mattera) vs what the instructor at in house is teaching for 4 and 5 axis parts. Should I be moving the part to TOP WCS and origin or leave the part in 3d space and make a new WCS from there? I generally never move a part, I create a new WCS and go from there. I've found it easier for importing updates and other parts of assemblies when I need to. Thanks
  8. You can try the Schunk Vero-s clamping system. They are .0002" repeatable and have high clamp force. I've used it for building die components but it really depends on your parts. http://www.schunk.com/schunk/schunk_websites/products/VERO-S_EN/
  9. +1 for what Betts said. We always said our previous tool was larger than it actually was. I don't use this toolpath anymore as we have the high speed pencil program which offers more control and a nicer toolpath. My understanding of the new high speed pencil is that it looks for surface intersections, not the radius of the fillet to generate the toolpath. This is much more powerful in terms of what you can do with a pencil program. You can use it like a leftover by defining a previous tool diameter and letting it find your leftover area. Or, you can do single pass or multiple pass pencil style toolpaths. You can even do and unlimited stepover toolpath where it finish all the areas you have selected, not just the intersections. HTH
  10. I use dynamic xform when moving text to engrave all the time now, haven't touched drag since dynamic xform was introduced.
  11. Man, I feel for you. How does someone go into a situation, knowing they need more capacity, but say I want to spend as little as possible? How does that make any sense? I guess he is going to want you to share tools from other machines too? LOL. Then people wonder why the industry has taken a hit. Too many of the leaders are from the old generation where automation did not exist, ugh. Good luck JD
  12. I've just spent ten minutes with a Spacepilot Proand it's great! The smoothness is ridiculous and the slightest pressure is enough to get it do what you want. Awesome product!
  13. Sorry, my explanation made sense in my mind lol. I usually make personalized files for most of my mcam settings. I've worked in too many shops where other people use the same seat and use the default settings. I prefer to have it customized. This way I just copy my settings and can apply them to any pc I sit at. I'm not sure if I am doing this the correct way or not? So in the past when I have changed my defaults file and deleted a toolpath, I had to reload the factory defaults file to get it back. So yes, losing all of my edits but I didn't know if I deleted the defaults file, mastercam would create a new one. Hope that makes sense.
  14. Hey, my tool manager kept crashing in X8, giving me the blue screen of death. I called Mastercam and they told me to update my video drivers and voila, it's working perfectly now. I know my newest drives had .net updated in them. HTH
  15. You need to reload your op defaults file. Did you try to move any control or machine defs? If I email you a copy of the default ops this will fix your problem. This has happened to me when I've modified the defaults op file, its an easy fix.
  16. My feed is was 16,510mm/min and back feed was set to the same. The machine is 2014 VF4ss. I can send a copy of my post if needed.
  17. I completely missed these posts. My min TP radius is usually 10 - 20 % of the tool. Its smooth in most areas except where I mentioned previously. I'm trying to work out if this is a HAAS problem or Mastercam. Chris, do you notice anything like this on your HAAS' and what post are you running? I'm wondering if my post and control def settings could be the culprit here? I'm using an edited version of Mpfan.
  18. Anyone had this issue with the tool manager in X8? Both times I've tried to use the manager it's crashed. Here is the error report. 19. Jay, will you have these in Chicago? They are cheaper in the US than here in Canada. Thanks
  20. Jay, are you a reseller of spacemouse units? I'm asking because you refer to it as "our"
  21. Ok, already looking at purchasing one of these bad boys, just hope I don't get the crashing and DLL error Greg is.
  22. Thanks guys! My first search came up empty, Ill try again. Cheers
  23. Is anyone using one of these and if so how do you like or dislike it?
  24. Bob, if it is a windows based tablet the tool manage app from mastercam will work. Apple or android no chance unless someone makes an emulator.
