  1. I edm'd berilium copper about 15 years ago, and as i recall used poco edm3 graphite and needed quite a few electrodes. make sure you have the exhaust going due to berilium is hazardous. it is painful edming for sure. at the time we did not have orbiting capabilities. maybe try burning down in a cone fashion to allow better flushing? hth
  2. nevermind, previous page explains it, delete tool.cfg. all good now, thanks shazam thank you gunther
  3. well i installed the new version and it recognizes 5 axis multi surface tools when doing a setup sheet, but it freezes when trying to do a tool list. any help?
  4. does X+ not recognize the tools in 5 axis multi surface? it doesn't recognize it for me, anyone else?
  5. my vote also for fanuc robocut we have two and are very happy with them, second choice makino. both are very little maintenance. thumbs down on the charmilles robofil 240cc, maintenance nightmare. holds size good but cumbersome to set up compared to the fanuc.
  6. What version of MC? if it's x3or x4 you can "xform move to origin" and i do that in 3d so my Z is at the origin as well. Then you can rotate your part how you want to from the origin. hth
  7. MU free to maintenance customer, where is that?
  8. thanks for the heads up on that matt, currently it's just a flat angled surface.
  9. matt that's exactly what i did, i just thought it would be nice to have the option in the surface toolpath parameters to extend past the end, following the surface at a "x" distance, and not having to alter the original surface. Storkman, excellant worked. thanks for the help guys.
  10. milling a simple surface from a mode, and would like the ball end mill to travel past the ends by say .05. can this be done without altering the surface? using surface finish parallel cuts.
  11. we had a test piece run by a machine tool rep and they have MC and powermill. They liked powermill for the more complex stuff basically because of the toolpath editing. Ofcourse this was 3+ years ago.
  12. Del, since you have fanuc wires how do you have your power library set up? we have fanuc as well and i use the generic.
  13. i would appreciate that cobra, thanks.
  14. you can convert it to a .txt file and edit that. go into your tool manager then right click on bottom portion and choose import/export tools, then export and follow the prompts
  15. any one have a solid model of the Fadal VH 165 fourth axis? did a search and DaveR said he uploaded it to the FTP site but i can't find it.
  16. Trevor the 5ax multisurf toolpath is exactly what i was looking for. thank you!! in the past my vanes have been on center or i would rotate my geometry but this is much better. thanks again this is going in my sample files for sure.
  17. trevor, if i offset my contour to half my endmill and then project it onto the surface, then mill it using surface project it works. what i'm trying to do is use advanced multiaxis, i get a better toolpath with that. i can rotate all my geomtry by 11.5 degrees and it will work, but i wanted to use the wcs to rotate it. hope that makes sense.
  18. in X4 MU3 i have 10 curved vanes about .041 wide and .326 long on a .470 dia. the first vane is actually 11.5 degress from vertical. so i want to do a multiaxis toolpath that will act like a pencil cut just to get my root radius. i created a wcs at 11.5 degrees rotated about the x axis that i called view s-s. then i created the vane surface, the .47 dia surface and a .024 blend radius between those two surfaces. at this point i created a curve at the end of the .024r where it meets the .470 surface. my machine is limited to 4 axis (XYZand A) i then used advanced multiaxis, parallel to curve, selected the curve and the .024r surface as my drive. planes are wcs is top, tool and comp planes are view s-s. this should rotate the a axis 11.5 degrees and mill the vane, but it doesn't. i will upload to the FTP under X4 files/ curved vane zip2go thanks all
