Parallel Tool Path Questions

I have uploaded a file called:

Parallel ToolPath.zip

to the MC9 Folder on the ftp site.

 

Take a look at operation number 6 under the Semi-Finish Cavities Group.

 

The tool path jumps from surface to surface, but what I would like it to do is do the whole cavity without leaving the cut.

 

I hope this makes sense, and I hope it is possible.

 

If more info is needed just let me know.

Well I will look at the file but have you looked at Scallop for a toolpath?

If you want ot use parrelle on these cavities I would call each one as an operation and use a bounding shape. If you want it to be one operation will need to look at a different toolpath I think.

I think I did not explain myself very clear.

 

You can see in the program that it jumps up between all of the surfaces for one cavity. I would like it to cut one cavity with out jumping up and moving to a different cavity.

Millman is right, the only way I see to get MC to comletely cut each seperate cavity is to make a seperate toolpath for each one. Sometimes MC's "optimizing" isnt what its cracked up to be, this is one of those situations

Not to get off suject a little but I have run into similar things and went to a scallop path after I learned how the settings worked there wasnt much I couldnt cut with pock rough all - contour and finsh with scallop.I found it stays down well.Not to dodge your question, considering I cant look at your file.

I think the only solution to avoid jumping from one cavity to other is to make separate toolpath for each individual. Though I would recommend shallow or scallop for this one.

call me crazy or stupid but but on my machine op 6 only enters the larger part of the cavity once, and and leaves only once before going to the next cavity. unless i'm missing the question.

There are 5 surface per cavity, it leaves each cavity 3 times.

Chris, check your rolling motion in the advanced settings. If you set it to roll over all edges it should take care of it. Depending on your geometry you may need to use containment boundaries or check surfaces once you do that. Send it over if that doesn't work.

Chris, I downloaded your file and setting the rolling motion fixes it but you do need to use containment boundaries/check surfaces otherwise it rolls over the top. Anyway I would have probably only programmed one of them and then used the transform function. I think that parallel is a great toolpath for this, any polishing goes with the parting line instead of up and down.

I looked at the file and on my box it machined each pocket seperatly. I agree with everyone, I would pick each pocket as a seperate operation.

Haven't seen the file but have you tried "optimize cut order " in the 2nd page in the "gap settings" box. HTH!

If you have a cutter boundary around each cavity, then pick optimize tool path it should finish 1 cavity at a time. You may also have to change the gap setting also to keep the tool down in the cut.
