Smoking bylaws are put in place to protect the rights of those who do not smoke from being killed by those who choose to play russian roulette with the Reaper.

Where I live we have not had a single bar close down due to smoking being banned. This is after almost three years of the bylaws beeing in place.

Smoke if you want, that's your choice but try, for just one day, watching where your second hand smoke drifts and who it effects.

The law should be to hang a sign on the outside stating whether the establishment is or is not smoking and let us decide to or not to enter. If someone decides they can put up with the "benefits" of smoking then let them. Just don't ask me to pay the costs.

See here's the thing, I'm not saying take away the right to smoke at all. I'm all for smoking, AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT AFFECT OTHERS. When people's habits affect innocent others' in a negative manner, this is where I draw the line. In Vegas, about 9(I think) years ago I was there for a weekend. By the middle fo the first day, I lost my voice, by the time I left, I was sick as a dog from the smoking. At that time there were no non-smoking casinos so that was not an option.

We shoudl ba able to breathe as freely as possible. Nothing we can do about sitting on the freeway. If we want anything ithas to be transported in some manner.

My dad will not eat anywhere that does not have a smoking section for at least 30% of its capacity, We went to Max & Ermas (Franchise) and they only have four smoking booths and they were in the bar area, after waiting 45 minutes they were going to seat us my dad (In True Jack@$$ form through a fit and we left)

I am opposed to Seatbelt and Helmet laws. Personally, I would never ride/drive without either, but it should be a choice, afterall, it their brains that will splatter not mine.

James, ironically I do not smoke unless I'm in Vegas - there I chain smoke! Keeps me more alert. I'll smoke em while my poker competitors drink em. Nothing better playing someone half in the bag while your alert!

You make a valid point. Casinos are a smoke-filled war zone. Nonetheless, as I stated before, if the casinos want to allow smoking - end of story. The government can just keep its nose out. It's the casino owners who decide...not Washington!!!

In the larger casinos it ain't that bad. Their huge with high ceilings and good ventilation systems. They constantly pump in fresh oxygen [ever wonder why people can stay up for insanely long hours? Fresh oxygen keeps them fresh enough to stay awake BUT their play is affected nonetheless, the casino's goal] which helps alot.

So if your a non-smoker, the big casinos are not too bad with regards to second-hand smoke. It is not perfect, though. I wish some casinos were smoke-free. But, the casinos would lose money...thats why they're not. Oh well, too bad, but its their right not our governments'.

Got an idea>>> How bout the gov't purchase a Vegas casino [or build one] make it smoke-free and use the profits for tax-break purposes? bonk.gif

I occationally have a cigar (at home) and occationally have a beer or two. I never drink and drive and sometimes I won't drive if I have had a strong cigar.

I can understand people wanting to have smoke free zones(ie resturants, bars, or clubs) But I agree it should be the business decision not the govenrment.

I agree with you about the seatbelt laws James, but I like the helmet laws.

Many people here don't like the government telling them what to do. Personally, I don't get too riled up about it. What do you guys think of Canadian or German non-smoking laws when you have "government run" health care. It seems to me that they should have a say in your actions. I don't know too much about how the health care systems work over there, or in any other countries. Please set me straight, if need be. smile.gif
