O/T Hand Jerks When Using Mouse

'Afternoon People,

 

My problem is probably akin to "Yips" (a condition some golfers have that causes an involintary hand or arm jerk at the last second befor a putt). It started happening about 2 years ago and is getting worse. The only time it happens is when I'm using a mouse.

 

My family doctor says it's nothing to worry about but it gets annoying when I am in Windows Explorer and instead of opening a folder I drag and drop it into another folder (for example).

 

It can be up to 5 seconds of jerking befor I can position the cursor on an line endpoint to select it. Often when I'm about to click a button I get a single jerk and I end up clicking the button next to the one I wanted.

 

I haven't screwed anything up because of it but I can see it happening one day.

 

Does anybody have a solution/suggestion?

Maybe, try switching the mouse to your other hand. I had to do this becasue I was getting bad cramps in my forearm ( from discgolf, not what your thinking ). It only took me a couple of days to get used to and I haven't had any more problems since.

What specifically has the doctor said it is ??

I have carpal tunnel in both wrist and suffer from my hands

tingling and going numb. Squeezing a hand/tennis ball sometimes helps.

I'm useless with my left hand but I guess that would be better than having to find another line of work at 55.

Doc says he does'nt know. I told him about Yips (which he had'nt heard of) and he said that makes sense.

Well I must say I'm flaberghasted at the suggestion that I may NOT be doing enough of that (if I understand correctly).

someone told me once if you do that,you will go blind,and i said i was going to do it up to the point that i needed glasses.

I don't think you'll get the same service from the neurologist as you would Terry and del's girlfriend. But I've never been to an neurologist before. Keep us informed I may have neurological problems myself.

Have you ever tried a Trackball mouse?

You might try an ergonomic mouse. It helps my hand and wrist.
