machining time?

How can I find out how much machining time total is required for all of my tool paths?

Highlight all the toolpaths you want to include in the cycle time calculation, hit Backplot, expand the dialog box, go to info page. Total cycle time is shown here.

Select all operations then backplot. There will be an arrow at the top of the backplot window to expand it. After that, look at the lower portion of the backplot window for two tabs, 'details' and 'info'. The info tab will show you calculated feed times for the ops, it's fairly accurate depending on your rapids...

I think tap cycles are way off. Am I wrong or doing something wrong?

I haven't noticed the tap times being off that much. For me it's the peck drill that really throws off my times.

You're right Dave. If you specify your taps with a feedrate in IPR I'm guessing that the software is interpreting that info. as IPM which is why the times are so long. - just a guess. Does anyone else know for sure the cause of this?

You should never have to enter feedrates for taps. Your post processor should know the pitch of the tap and calculate the feed for you or just output the pitch value.

Were in Mastercam do you set your rapid

feed rate .

You can set-up your rapid feed rate in the Machine definition file, by looking in the edit general machine parameter button.

The times are still off even if you have the rapid feeds and linear feeds correct, MC doesn't account for acceleration and deceleration of machine movements and tool changes as well.

MC does allow for tool changes, it's in the machine definition. Accel and decel is very minor so the system should be able to calculate a fairly accurate cycle time.

It does if you output the info on a work sheet but does it count it in backplot? I don't think it does, it just shows the cycle time. I could be wrong.

Is there any condition, where Mastercam can't calculate the time.. When I tried with some 5-axis stuff on an Integrex, it doesn't show the clock or anyting about time...?!?

I also don't think Mastercam accounts for look-ahead very well. I run some long programs with many corners, so the feedrate with look ahead on is slower than what it is programmed to skewing the cycle time in backplot. Peck drilling is my other complaint on cycle time calculation. I would appreciate any advice on adjusting these.
