Haole (n) how-lee: A derogatory term in Hawaii for a person with pale skin.

biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

My wife and I are going back to Kaua‘i for our 10 year Anniversary. Actually, since we're expecting another kidlet we're going to go in December or Early January because the baby is due in Late March. Very beauteeeeeeful! Ripper I soooooo envy you being able to live there. I know it's not perfect anywhere but the slower pace of things there would certainly add a few more quality years to my life.

+1 on Kauai.

25 years for us this last spring.

Celebrity govorners: Been there (Jessie Ventura). It was really fun for a while. Don't know if he did more harm or good for the state. He did no good at all for the Reform Party that he rode to office. (X eyes smilely)

More fun to watch Ca, than be Ca right now.

Prayer for Plasttav: may the day come to your land when heated political debate not cause death.

Slower pace, lmao.

I can honestly say that while I know it's against the law in most states, I have NEVER seen a sign on the freeway stating a MINIMUM speed limit! eek.gif

After driving on the island for a few days, I realized why they're putting their signs there.

At Grey Davis’s speech last night there was talk of the vast right wing conspiracy once again. Typically the Democrats have Hollywood on their side, (besides Bruce Willis, Arnold Swartzenegger, and Charlton Heston), they’ve got the newspapers, they’ve got the major TV news, not counting Fox, they’ve got public television championing their causes, they’ve got the unions, they’ve got over 60 percent of the female vote, they’ve got the gay vote, they’ve got the environmentalist vote, they’ve got the minority vote, they’ve got the immigrant vote, and they’ve got a virtual monopoly in California’s political offices -yet somehow the conservatives and Republicans have hijacked the election process. WOW! They are really good I guess. eek.gif

What a crock! Had it not been for the fact that over 1/3 of the signatures on the recall petitions were Democrats he might have actually convinced someone of this. frown.gif

Arnold brings the following:

1. A recognized, well liked personality

2. Moderation; no extremism in either direction

3. From what I hear, excellent leadership skills

4. Experience running a business empire

5. Experience coming to the US with little, and achieving success as both a body builder and an actor

6. He's a very smart person that studies issues and learns quickly.

The highly experienced Gray Davis botched everything he touched. He could not have handled the energy crisis worse. If that's what political experience brings us, I'm ready for a novice.

"stupid haole"

Isn't there a word that's supposed to go in the middle there? Seems to me it begins with an 'F'.

Sometimes.. I hear "stupid haole" alot less than I used to.

quote:

On Maui, A bunch of us were under the Banyan tree playing our guitars and drinking beers( a NO NO) and the cops came buy and told us they were going to shoot all us haole's and leave us in the cain fields.....

I still hear tons of stories about how corrupt Maui Police are.

quote:

The day before I left, I went snorkeling in front of the Shores Hotel. There was alot of debris in the water and could only see about 2 foot.

Got this strange feeling and that's when it happened. A large shadowy figure glided by.

Saw the white tip through the mirk and needless to say I got the hell out of the water as soon as I could

Lesson learned : Do not go out in murky water

Oahu and Kauai are pretty different in terms of pace of things. Oahu is much more busy. The outer island locals often can't stand how busy Oahu is when they fly over to visit.. Oahu is still nothing like Cali tho..

You vacationing out here later this year brings up an idea my boss had. I'll email you on that one..

No, you all need to drive at least CLOSE to the speed limit.

It's the peeps driving 45-50mph in the fast lane of a 70mph freeway that pees me off. (Or in Hawaii's case, 35 in a 55... mad.gif )

I'm gonna take your comments with a grain of salt since you 1) live in CA, 2) have a sandrail, 3) have go-fast crotch rockets.

I been trying to stop letting other peoples driving get to me. Because it's generally non-productive.

Where do ppl who live in Hawaii go for a honeymoon? We picked Tahiti. Gonna break the bank on it, but you only have one honeymoon, eh?

Ripper teh Someone let me know when I have been promoted to Sr. Forum thread hijacker

I have fast toys for a reason; so I don't have to go fast on public streets.

I don't care how other people drive, so long as they're respectful of the people around them, which the idiots driving stupidly slow in the fast lane are NOT.

I think sandrails are cool. I love bikes but I could never ride one, I'm not coordinated enough. And riding a motorcycle is one of those things high up on the list of "things not to do if you don't trust your own coordination".. I'll stick to watching videos of 'em.

Anyhow.. I'm gonna stop now.

As quoted from Eric Margolis “foreign correspondent”.

"Right after Schwarzenegger's bombshell, columnist and self-proclaimed Christian moralist Ariana Huffington threw her broomstick into the ring, offering to save California from decadence and corruption. She knows these evils first hand: her millionaire ex-hubby, after blowing some $32 million of his personal money on a farcical, failed political race, escaped the shrill Ariana by eloping with another man.

Each time I've met Huffington, I wondered if she was not somehow the long-lost daughter of Madame Nicolai Ceaucescu, or a genetic cross between Martha Stewart and Count Dracula. Had this Greek-born harpy lived in medieval times, she would have been sewn up in a bag with a rooster and two snakes and thrown into the nearest river."

Please believe me when I say that I cannot agree or disagree with such a statement. I do however find this quote rather amusing. smile.gif

This thread is unhijackable (added this word to dictionary today)

cheers.gif

Jack,

Ms. Huffington does not even have a chance. She's claiming to want to put an end to "fat cats and their loopholes". By her own definition of fat cat she is one. Oh the hypocracy..............

I love this:

I am with Mr. Davis,,

((don't panic)) I mean Charles Davis when he says Arnold is the man. He is getting press like a democrat .

It was nice to see Gary Coleman on camera with a smile, just because he has had such a hard time.

And I'm wondering what one would get for a $500.00 contribution to the porn star's campaign.

I’m hoping for a cabinet position

I'm sure she will have lots of positions to fill.

Re. Ms Huffington: I like a lot of her views as a pundit, and I enjoy her wit, but I don't think that wit, charisma, and a modicum of intelligence make gubernatorial material. That is exactly the same criticism that I have of Schwarzennegger. Do you guys think either one of these people could sit down at your computer and start writing efficient, functioning programs? I doubt it, or else we are all overvalued. But you are willing to accept that they can just slide into the highest elected position in the State?

Politics, like programming, requires an intimate knowledge and understanding of certain codes and proceedures. In other threads we have all shown pride in our years of experience, even labeling ourselves 'senior members' with the implication that knowledge and ability comes from experience. But somehow, some of us are willing to believe that the same does not hold true for the office of Governor.

Does this mean that I believe we should pack DC and Sacramento with career politicians? No. But the office of Governor is not an entry level position. I would have no problem with either of these people running for State Senate or Assembly, but I see nothing in either one of them to suggest that they are ready for the top job.

Bustamonte proposes to repeal the vehicle tax but also to raise the taxes on commercial properties to fix our budget woes. How many shop owners in this forum would welcome this with a yank on the old lever for Bustamonte? How would this do anything but compound the problem in an already hostile business type environment in California? This is the sort of mindset that caused the business exodus in the first place.

Have either Davis or Bustamonte ever heard of supply side economics? Have either of them run a business and had to deal with marginal tax rates?

I bet Arnold with his many successful business dealings knows more about both these issues from a real world point of view then either one of them.
