Hey Rekd (and other Gibbs users),

How about the single step button in Gibbs rendering (verify)? Or the ability to instantly jump to a later operation?

I think 2D swept toolpaths are quicker in Gibbs.

I like that an arc on and off the finish wall of a pocket is built into the cycle.

I like that you can still "keep tool down" when using a helix or ramp entry.

I like the way you can show your tool diameter when drawing multi-line geometry and the section that would be cut out gets shaded grey as you go. This is good for roughing weird shaped areas.

I like the way contour extensions post out as a single move, not an entry move...cut move...exit move (all being 3 consecutive moves in the same axis).

I like the way Gibbs will compensate for the tool diameter (less then the actual diameter) when milling a pocket whos depth is less than the tool corner radius.

And, of course......the geometry expert. I only used it to modify geometry. Creating geometry with it never clicked for me. I thought it was easier creating free form geometry.

But I'd still take MC's options and control over the toolpath/post over Gibbs any day. The advantages of MC outweigh the advantages of Gibbs tenfold.

Ah, yes. Very good points, Thad! cheers.gif

One other thing comes to mind, dragging multiple tool tiles/operations to apply to the same geometry all at once.

The GE is VERY powerful, Thad. If you're using Gibbs still, you should give it another go at creating shapes.

'Rekd teh I sit corrected

Hey prosoft you got some good examples. If not take a look at the 7 4th AXIS.ZIP you are more then weclome to use it for you needs over there. If you want to tweak the toolpaths your are more than welcome to. That is an actual part that is in production and use in a consumer application that is about all I can say at this point but since you are not on Amercian soil they said it was ok.

This should say it all from their own web site.

quote:

Milling - 2, 2.5 and simple 3 axis with simple 4th axis positioning

Turning - 2 axis turning and 3 axis milling (available with mill option)

Advanced Milling - 5 axis rotary positioning

Rotary Milling - Simultaneous rotary axis milling

SolidSurfacer™ - Solid modeling and 3 axis surface machining (see SolidSurfacer™ data sheet for details)

Hum let me see only rotary axis milling and only 5 axis rotary where as mastercam support full 4th axis milling as well as full 5th axis milling I know casue I do 4th now and have done 5th axis. They might have liked something that will only allow them to run with the puppies and not the big dogs.

Just my 2 cents worth.
