  1. >>It is better than gay sex. B'Head, Do you have an actual frame of reference?? If so, sorry for outing you...
  2. There was a recent post on proficiency testing and I Just got the Summer email of OPSTOP. Here is the Milling from CNCCI.com http://www.cncci.com/pdf/mcpo%20proficiency%20test.pdf Here is the Turning from CNCCI.com http://www.cncci.com/pdf/tcpo%20proficiency%20test.pdf I heven't even had a chance to go thru them yet.
  3. Relaitivly low cost option for a pump. (less than $1000) www.schydraulic.com
  4. You want some Canadian Scoops - There aren't any.
  5. "Paris Ontario Canada" There are more of us in Paris than Jack! Woodstock, I thought that place closed down after the 403 went thru to Brantford/Hamilton... Hwy2 has never been the same. Could be worse though, Burford is close by.
  6. "Save your lips - Andrew doesn't have one. " Thanks Jack The reference to a high performance racing machine was ment as a simily to the level of trust you need to let someone drive your $125K Machine Tool...
  7. Simple appitude stuff, math operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and my facvoite - the word problems, don't forget to add one with a twist. Also get some mics, and a vernier (not the real one, I can't even read those...) and have a bunch of things to measure. This will give you the chance to see them use measuring tools on scrap before they hit your floor (and pocket book). Ask yourself the question "Would I let this guy drive my Porsche??" If yes, then they are worthy to hire.
  8. The reason that I hit the estop first was to shut down the hydraulics and all the other drives under a "controlled" shutdown. The old guy I learned from suggested that the control would avoid electrical spikes this way if it was shut down on its own. Is this truth or just his opinion? Anyone... Anyone...
  9. Change the start position (home position) and add an approach/retract move to the tool path (Ref Points).
  10. http://www.i-logic.com/pwa355/page28.htm http://www.panamericantool.com/family.cfm?...erospace%20Taps http://www.spstech.com/aero/prod_lit/insert_brochure.pdf Clearly this is an aerospace part and the implication that your customer doesn't know what they want simply makes we want to walk... I suggest that the Insert will contain the proper UNJF thread and the onus on you will be to provide the thread for the insert only (which for some inserts can be unique on its own. Tap Drill Chart - Titex (a Sandvik Company) http://www.titex.com/SANDVIK/3432/Internet...ochtabellen.pdf
  11. I hope that you haven't cut anything yet... The STI means "Screw Thread Insert" similar to a Helicoil - and this is something that you will have to find from the manufacturer of the the insert. Talk to the customer and make sure you do it right.
  12. You have to jockey the settings and specify the proper tool to begin with, otherwise you will get the switching that you are experiencing. Post a file if you need this fixed for good.
  13. Easy solution. Get a policy in place that has a minimum number of quotes to be three, one quote is not enough, unless follwed by a second and then ulitmatly a third. Four be too many and Five is right out! Special thanks to Brother Maynard and his holy hand grenade. Monty Python holds the key to all things in Business. GCode - The president relys on his people to help him identify areas of savings and violations of policy - the corporation is made up of individuals with a common goal - you are responsible Beav - save the economy and do the right thing!
  14. "editorials" This word can not be used in this manner. Read all the authors of these "Articles" and they all are written by Ms "X", Product Manager for "Y" company. This is not an objective publication so remember this when reading.
  15. Don't feel so slighted, there are some other notables missing from the publication. PTC and Catia both have solid 5ax capabilities and are excluded. Remember the purpose of the publication is to make money and when you send out a free magazine, the revenue is exclusivly thru advertizing and so I would sugget that this "Querry" is a selection of the folks that paid to have there names there. I do not hold MMS in very high regard and find Cutting Tool Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, T&P and American Machinist much more informative and frankly better written than MMS. I have also seen MC advertised in these publications and so they are reaching the intended audience of decision makers and I would drop the MMS exposure if it was my decision to make - unless the hope is to have the brand in the widest distribution possible - then I would keep the small adds and not participate is this "Incremental Sales" promotion.
  16. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...something better than the ATI card... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps a hammer and chisel might do the trick??? Adding my smart mouth post of the day, Here is a question with respect to notebooks, what is the fastest refresh rate that one can achieve twisting knobs on an Etch-A-Sketch?
  17. Jack is right - Change it once, off you go, try to go back home - and you are out in the cold. Still here Jack -
  18. Check this publication - I have not reviewed this book but the caption reads like what you are looking for. http://www.sme.org/cgi-bin/get-item.pl?05200756&2&SME&
  19. Would love to read the economists viewpoint that supports this hypothesis. The only supporting documentation that I have on this one is my own chequing account. If I come across something, I'll send it along...
  20. I can hear the collective yawn in press rooms across the continent - there will be a great deal of complacency in publishing this item for the following reason - Off Shore sourcing is actually increasing the standard of living! Example1 - I can go to the local Walmart and get a pair of shoes for my kids that is of equal or greater quality of the shoes that I had when I was growing up and at a fraction of the cost. In real terms, considering the inflation rate the same pair of shoes should now cost $80.00 I am not talking about a pair of Nikes or similar where you pay for the marketing (Is this not a piller of wealth??) Example2 - Look inot your kids toy bins - thesae toys were unimaginable when I was a kid - if you couldn't form it with a press - it didn't get made. When it did get made, that is all you got for christmas as it cost Dad about 5 hours of Pay! The cost of Food has remained stable and yet there is a shrinkage in the number of independant farms across the country as productivity in these areas meets the demands of the economy. The cost of realestate has balooned as more and more people realize that we actually do live in the best part of the world - buying up the supply of land, and as there isn't enough to meet the demand, prices must increase to maintain the stability in the economy. (Energy costs are on the rise as well, until the chineese develop a cheap and transferrable power plant!) The cost of consumer products and their marketing halflives (high price at launch and discount proce at the end of lifecycle) has deminished - Imagine the guy that paid handsomely for the first "Beta" video machine. Anyway, I just wanted to prepare the group for disappointment, the general populace doesn't feel our pain, so how can we expect them to care?
  21. As the corner of the tool is radiused, the backplot may look like it is undercutting when in fact, the radius is actully tangent to the drive lines. Lathe is decieving - just watch for things like this.
  22. I have contacted Mazak and the indication is that the size of the "Memory" (area on the Hard Drive where the current programs are stored) can not be changed. I have run from the "Tape" or extended memory mode off the hard drive with a file that was hefty and large. Not too bad but then the operator can not access the program in the machine itself. Thanks to all for the replies.
  23. You mention that you drop programs directly into the directory of the control. What I am thinking of is expanding the allocation size of the directory so that the little number at the side of the program file screen (75% full) will be referencing a larger disk space amount. Any Ideas?
  24. Next Issue How do I allocate more space in this area for larger programs?
  25. Cory and RStuart, I am looking for information on programming a subspindle and hope you guys can help me out, I have a colleague that is expecting a new machine and so I would appreciate an opportunity to chat. Thanks,
