  1. quote: You open an IGES file in MC, then save as an IGES file so you an open it in SpaceClaim to make it a solid. Nice process. Why wouldn't you just open the original IGES in SpaceClaim? Why? Because it doesn't suit your "bash MC agenda." Thad +1 That's exactly what I was thinking. I've been using por-e iges files for years with out much problem at all. I have no reason to export them back to another software to make it a "solid", then to bring it back into MC as a solid, when I don't have the solids module in MC either... seems like a waste of time....also seems what JB is good at. Just more of his trolling tactics
  2. quote: cept for windows now that's some funny stuff right thar...I don't care who ya are It's kind of funny how we've all come to accept this as the norm now ...kind of like our gubment
  3. quote: How much RAM would you suggest? As much as you can afford to get. The 32 bit XP will see just a little more than 3gig, 64 bit will use all so get atleast 4gig.
  4. Check the Dell outlet site http://www.dell.com/content/products/compa...s=28&l=en&s=dfb They Have some M6300 that should do the trick and are under $2000
  5. Thanks, good to know. I don't use "window" much, usually just chain stuff so i hadn't come across this. I do see how it could be frustrating.
  6. Hey Larry, Things are ok... for now anyway. I think, in this economy, no one feels super comfortable around here but it is what it is. Let me know if the letter thing worked.
  7. ok, I just tried todo that and the letters didn't highlight but it ask me for a start point. Once I picked the start point, the letters highlighted...? maybe something has changed, or it could be a graphics card thing or something. Anyway, that's what happened when I tried it.
  8. X2 and X3 should handle it about the same. I don't believe anything changed there.
  9. Hey Larry, Check to see if you have any kind of a selection mask on or not and also that your in the right construction plane that the geometry is in.
  10. billholeman, quote: I don't see a solution in the link. I see others who have the same problem and a suggestion to try. I tried the suggestion. I still have the problem. Well it wasn't so much of a solution but... quote: We are working on some Level Manager improvements for X4 right now so we have a programmer in the code and working on it. Tells me that they are working to make it better. If the OP would have taken the time to do a search and not just posted a "rant" without making it a question, I probably wouldn't have said anything ...but he didn't so I did. Some people are too lazy to search or just want to start a negative thread (i.e. trolling). BTW, welcome to the forum.
  11. Gee....guess the "search" feature doesn't work for "some" users here..... That thread with the answer was up almost a month ago.
  12. It was a long time ago , but the agie I ran would cut a straight line....but you had to have lead in and lead out for the offset to make a transition...or cut with no comp and make the comp built into the program. Like I said , it was about a decade ago when I ran one and not even sure what model machine it was, I bow to the better knowledge of some of the other experts here.
  13. Tony, check your email and let me know if the file came thru. I didn't see your post until this morning or would have sent it sooner. It's a complete map of US with and outline around each state. I haven't been able to post to the ftp lately so if anybody else wants it (or if some one else can post it to ftp) let me know.
  14. quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just uploaded a pdf file called PTC-export.pdf into Text_&_post_files_&_misc on cadcam's FTP site. Not sure if it will help anyone but it tells various config settings to use in pro-e for exporting in iges to different cad programs.I use iges wireframe and surface and have very few problems at all with iges. HTH -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone have this file.. It doesnt seem to be on the ftp site anymore. hmmm, I thought it was there but just checked and it's not will. I'll try to upload again soon. If anyone needs it, shoot me a message.
  15. This is what I've had in the past 2 systems out IT guys have ordered. Not the best but gets the job done. If it were me, I'd go with the FX1500 though http://shopper.cnet.com/graphics-cards/pny...9-32685730.html
  16. quote: The only time I ever use it, is to rough estimate the tip length of a drill...I then turn the feature off, and manually input a # that I like.Yup, that's the same way and only time I ever use it. I have my defaults set up with it unchecked too.
  17. There is a variable that changes for different types of materials Here's a couple of links and you can check the Machinery Handbook too.HTH http://www.jit-mfg.com/bend_allowance.htm http://www.sheetmetaldesign.com/WhitePaper...ndAllowance.pdf http://www.engineersedge.com/bend_allow_calc.htm
  18. Maybe this is just a solids issue with Pro-e, I'm only using surfaces and wireframe from Pro, so maybe that's the difference. Anyway, good luck.
  19. Try a forum search, the pro-e export thing has been discussed in a few threads, here's one http://www.emastercam.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...t=028841#000007 and another http://www.emastercam.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...ic;f=1;t=027131 I've been using Pro-e/iges files for years without much problem at all....but I guess some have trouble with it.
  20. Just saw this. Haven't tried it but plan to. http://camstudio.org/
  21. It depends on the geometry/material alot for me but generally I'll do a Surface Rough Pocket to within .04, Surface Finish Parallel to .01 with a .05 stepover to semi-finish and then go from there with either Surface Finish Contour or Parallel or whatever else it takes. The reaso I run the semi finish is alot of times I'm using smaller endmills to finish (darn engineers and their .02 radii)so I try to get out as much as I can first. hth.
  22. NC Fadal is the latest I know of, we had to get it when IT went to XP across the board. Works good.
  23. Thanks Gunther, appreciate you taking the time to develope this handy tool.
