  1. I use their phone app since I am on a computer without admin rights. It also works great and I recommend his calculator to everyone.
  2. I prefer these since they have a sharp point on them so I can use it for chamfering, engraving, and spotting 90deg holes. http://www.harveytool.com/prod/Drill---End-Mills/Specialty-Profiles/Browse-Our-Products_193/Drill-End-Mills---Mill-Style-4-Flute_206.aspx
  3. Re-hosting it would be a great idea. A note could be added to the doc thanking and crediting Chris for what he started for the community. Doesn't matter where its hosted, right? I think Johns reputation is enough not to just disappear on us and remove the spreadsheet at the same time lol.
  4. Ok if anyone has the same issue... What I did to fix it was go into config and change Screen > Scale display gnomons and text setting from 1.0 to 2.0, then change it back to my default setting of 1.0. Gnomons came back!
  5. This might seem like a lengthy video just for dynamic xform but there are many functions with the gnomon and he covers most of them if memory serves correctly.
  6. Same thing I was thinking! Thats the crazy colors you are seeing now, thats not my usual setup Thanks for the idea though.
  7. So its been bugging me since we moved to 2017 and Im finally tired of ignoring it.. Anyone see something like this?
  8. With the addition of a containment boundary capable of using "to contact point" I much prefer the high speed scallop vs the traditional. You will be less likely to get those goofy moves along the edges if you can control it with only a containment boundary and do away with check surfaces as much as possible.
  9. I currently have a xeon 3.7ghz 8core and while regenerating a dynamic optirough toolpath mastercam will use all 8 cores and hover around 60% utilization, peaking at 90+ occasionally.
  10. I cant speak for version 2017 since we havent upgraded to it yet but in X9 most of the resource intensive toolpaths support multithreading which would include all of the highspeed toolpaths. If a file is on the network, it works off of that file, it does not save a local working copy. MCX can save a backup file localy, but not the same thing you are asking about. Because of this, I usually I work on files from my local drive, and when complete ill move it over to the network store.
  11. I had trouble getting the nethasp to be recognized by the virtual server, I ended up installing it on a random workstation that was on 24/7 that I knew I could count on (my own workstation, heheh). Doesn't mean it wont work though, I was just the CNC programmer / IT hack guy.
  12. I guess guess it all falls under the whole six sigma umbrella. The whole process seems to meld together in a good way when implemented correctly.
  13. JParis got started on some good points but got segued from 5s into better process implementation. Sorry no pics to contribute, but I will say some of the things we have done: Shadow foam for all toolboxes. You could go to any box in the shop and know where everything is at, no more searching. Clockwise movement for parts thru the shop. Shipping > Machining > Deburr > Marking / Plating > Shipping. Keeps everything moving, for the most part, in one direction. Keeping minimal stock making more room for production. Customers aren't buying your excess; get rid of it. (Red tagging) Floor markings, shelf marking. Everything has a spot and must be respected. Again, no more searching for things. That pretty much covers Sort, Set in Order, and Standardize. Now you just gotta Shine it up and Sustain it!
  14. Good to know! I used to use backplot then save the toolpath geo to a level to get the same result. Your method is much quicker.
  15. 3+ years later and your post was helpful. Thank you.
  16. We use MasterCAM here at GSFC. Couldnt help you with the approval process though, it was already in place when I got here.
  17. I love my 3/8 collet for small stuff.
  18. Im waiting for Ron to come in with the morph between 2 curves
  19. Ok I love new ideas and features (aka change) but I never understood the ribbon bar concept and quite frankly I hate it. "Lets take 20 small and easily accessed buttons, make them really big and spread them under multiple tabs" I'm assuming the tabs will be modifiable so ill be able to put my required icons in the home tab?
  20. I dont think the status bar would be considered a "dialog" but might be worth a try. Go to the Mastercam Advanced configuration and try Reset > Dialog positions Edit: Nevermind, helps to read other replies first.
  21. PBS should pickup this series about machine shops... This old Haas
  22. Yeah if it doesnt have HSM options the only thing I'm aware of is the filter tolerance and cut tolerance within MCX so you are stuck there.... Ive ran some older machines that didnt like crunching numbers and it turned out to be quicker using rapid Z retracts instead of a microlift with a high back feed rate just because it would never reach 500IPM between all the points.
  23. Cut tolerance is only how much you are allowing the toolpath to deviate from a "perfect" line/arc/whatever. So if you left .001 stock remaining and a cut tolerance of .005 you run the chance of gouging the part. Generally I will not exceed half of my stock to leave as my cut tolerance because of this. If you are looking to reduce the file size you want to enable "Line/Arc Filter Setting". You can start with enabling that and move the slider to the middle and usually get good results. Good Luck
  24. He only said cutter comp was failing not that it was required. Not using cutter comp is the only solution unless you use up some tolerance. Edit: In fact if you read OP he mentions only wanting to move in one straight line.
