  1. Leonard, Most are using a very "Lightly" modified MpMaster.pst, avaliable here on the posts section of this website. (look up) If you need something custom contact Steve or Chris at Cad Cam Solutions, Inc. 770-982-3400 They should be your dealer. Oh, and asking for a post... well... it's nothing to me, but read around. HTH Mark
  2. Welcome back, John. Wondered where you been. Mark
  3. quote: The weather can definitely ruin a good thing like a vacation. Tell me about it!!! Hur-DEAN - just ran wife and me out of Cancun, got there Fri. 17th at 12:30pm, left Cancun Palace at 5am Sunday morning for the airport! OH, well.... Back to work! Mark
  4. Vic, It all should run the same, re-check all settings in the box software, make sure the box took all the settings, maybe even reset the box? Check the FIFO settings in the serial box, these cause all sorts of problems sometimes. If not resolved I'd call the box manuf.'s tech support. HTH Later, Mark
  5. Vic, quote: ...we would like to send files to the serial server threw an ethernet connection which has 4 ports of its own to then go to each individual machine... I am not familiar with this particular "box", but it should have software that will allow you to add comm-ports to the computer. These will not be "real" ports but ports that when selected will be tied directly to certan machines. As far as Cimco - that comes (or came) with MC - it will only allow "single" connections. It is the most basic form of the software. Now as stated above if you need to drip to several diferent machines at the same time or need to load one machine and drip to another you will need to upgrade to the Cimco "DNC" poduct. It also does much more than that also! But I think Cimco is kind of modular, buy what pieces you need??? I think? I used a "MOXA" box with 4 ports, I placed it central to all the machines and ran individual serial lines to each machine and one eithernet connection to the router. That kept me from having 4 serial lines ran into the office. Plus anyone on the network could send files to any machine. (any with the Moxa software loaded on them) On my Moxa box the software that came with it scaned the network, found the Moxa box, allowed me to assign a fixed IP to it, added 4 "virtual" comm-ports to my computer. Then with Cimco, all I had to do was create machine profiles for the 4 machines and select what comm-port to use to communicate to that machine. Worked Great! If you have any specific questions, e-mail me or something. I am not by any means any kind of expert on this, but mine did work! (NOT SPELL CHECKED!) 6. 3 phase all the way! Get a "ROTARY" CNC capable converter - min. 2 times the size of the largest single motor, you will be fine, for just this single machine. No Static converter! I have a friend that does this for his whole shop! 5 cnc's and lots of manual lathes, mills and other junk. But he can not get 3 phase where he lives, so...? Electric is not that bad, 1.2 to 1.3 of what real 3 phase cost is. His bill for a month runs around 275.00 to 325.00. Now that is for his whole shop running 6 days a week and 7 guy's working. But we also live in the TVA power area, so electricity is cheap. HTH Later, Mark
  7. Send him an e-mail.... He'll give you the skinny on this.... Later,

  11. quote: John summers has a post that will help you create several different types of cam slots....... Man that will just make your head hurt..... I don't have enough info to use this.... or brains either.... so it seems???? Got my dealer (Chris) looking at it for me. Thanks guys, Mark
  12. Thanks Roger! Will go look!
  13. quote: Thats always one of my biggest complaints is missing data on prints. MINE TOO! quote: Splines? Dont know - how would that work? quote: Any chance you could scan the drawing ?? It's a HAND drawing - not to scale or anything! This is a for a CAM follower slot, I think John Summers or someone may have a C-Hook or something for this crap. Thanks anyway! Mark
  14. OK, you guys and gals know I am pretty dumb, but this has me very perplexed! I have a print (faxed and "Hand Drawn" )for a flat cam slot that a folower will ride back and forth in and for the best of me I can not get it drawn. Not enough information? (maybe?) What it is - two 5" long, 1.501" horizontal slots with a 1/2" vertical offset one from the other, where the two slot ends meet in the center they have taken a 2.75" area (1.375 off each 5" slot) and made a transition area for the 1/2" vertical difference that has a 2.5" radius at the begining and end of this 2.75" area. Now the 2.5" radius can not extend out of the 2.75" transition area, and you must maintain the 1.501 spacing of the slot, that seems to be what is giving me the fit. ENGUNEERS Even if THEY cant draw it - they still want it! Anyone got any simple suggestions? Thanks, Mark
  15. Randy, From "MY" experiences this usually only happens when the stock is NOT defined! Is your stock defined? Just a thought. Later, Mark
  16. Jay, I'm pretty dumb - but not that dumb! I want the Mouse pad - I would give him 5 bucks for that, would'nt you?
  17. quote: extra X2 system boxes, we will have them for sale for $5+shipping, Mouse pads, docs all included Me want one! $5.00 + s/h ... that's a H@#@ of a deal. Can you say "Home Use"! E-mailed....
  18. See, knew I could count on you guys! Thanks for the info, I was afraid of using a "Spade Drill" for this, I have never used one, now I know not to use them in this application. Never heard of a "Core Drill" before, and then someone sends me a PDF from Precision Twist drill. quote: REMEMBER... 1. Opening up holes with two flute drills is no guarantee that the finished hole will be round and chatter free. 2. If pre-drilled or cored holes must be enlarged, the most efficient and safe method is with a core drill. It will insure round holes to size and at up to double the feed rate. I actualy liked the other ideas also, thanks guys, but if these drills are made for this.... Well... This is what I love about this place! World wide help for all!! Thanks guys, I will order one of these today! Later, Mark
  19. Looking for some advice on spade drills. Does anyone use these? How are they at "opening up" holes, or is that a big No-No with them? What I have is a very large quantity (1000's) of some round spacer looking parts for re-work. They have a .644 to .650 hole already through them, parts are 4 inches long. Material is 1018, and appears to have been DOM for ID size. The customer is switching over to a 18 mm bolt and wants the hole opened up to 18.1 mm/(.713) to 18.3 mm/(.720). I am looking for something other than boring with a boring bar. (.500 bar going 4" deep may have rigidity issues) I was thinking about a .718 spade drill but have never used one, nor do I know how they work on re-drilling existing holes. What would be your recommendation? Thanks for any input, Mark
  20. I would not have a "workstation" type of computer with out it! It has saved my @$$ many a time. Now if you are on a network that has backup storage, it is redundant. But for stand alone or if all your files are kept local on your computer, my opinion is, YES, you need it. (or I want it) My last 3 computers have had some form of a raid system - from 5 to 1. Check out this link - Raid Listing (navigation for different levels 0,1,2,... is on the dark bar towards top) This page lists the advantages and disadvantages of the different level of RAID. If you do go with a RAID system get 7200rpm drives - makes a big difference, especialy in level 1. HTH Later, Mark
  21. Thanks - dcapps! Neat looking software - now if I could just get my customers to use solid models instead of prints!?! Oh well.......... Thanks, Mark
