  1. There is a book called CNC Trade Secrets that gives a lot of useful info and the basics of running a Haas.
  2. I was having issues with our DNC system so I tried to move the nc file straight to the control by taking it on a USB thumbdrive. I have it plugged in and I can see the file. But I cannot understand how to move it from the stick to the control memory.
  3. It might be a video card problem. If I pass the mouse cursor over the box, the number changes to what I had input.
  4. In 2017, I'm having a problem entering a Set Z Depth value at the bottom when working in 2D. Is that a known bug? Tried typing it in or using a drop down list pick but it does not want to change. Weird.
  5. What does it take to upgrade from Mill to Mill 3d? Just a different dongle plugged in, minus a big check?
  6. I think I would just scribe some lines and circles, drill where they intersect and go on to the next job.
  7. If your Zeiss programmer cannot do something as simple as add MMC to a Characteristic, it is possible that all of the problems are on his end and the parts are actually good. It could also be small burrs or chips in the holes being measured.
  8. Sounds like you are new to lathes. It would be a good idea to turn the safety interlocks back on. Might be they just removed the piece from the door that fits the interlock. Most people change jaws by inserting an allen wrench and whacking it with a mallet. Your results may vary.
  9. Sorry that is for newly created geometry. To change the level of existing geometry: Home ribbon /Attributes click the rightmost icon (Set All) use the Masks in the right margin to select the type of entity End Selection in the dialog box, select the level to move to.
  10. File /Configuration /CAD Settings /Entity Attribute Manager check the box Active click on Settings a box opens and check Lines, Solids, and Surfaces and select the level to place each
  11. Parlec will do it but you might have to adjust the illumination to get the length correct. It's good for checking run out too. More than a tenth of runout would break a drill that size. I break them just taking it out of the package.
  12. Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for.
  13. I changed the color of several faces of a solid using Model Prep. Now when I Select all entities by color, that color is not listed as a selection. Is this a bug or intentional omission?
  14. Done that before. But we always inspect it on an optical comparator. Either by cutting one in half or by taking a cast of it with dental impression material.
  15. Type two roughing is an option on Fanuc lathes. If your program has both X and Z moves in the P block, that is the instruction to do a type two. But if the option is not enabled in the control, the alarm 65 is the result. Mastercam will rough undercuts without using a G71 canned cycle.
  16. Another idea: check your custom made tools on an optical comparator. I have tools made before that had the wrong angles.
  17. I would consider roughing all grooves and then having it stress relieved before finishing.
  18. Was doing a job recently where we were threadmilling a large oddball thread in some parts. The manager did not have time to order a gage so he had the lathe leadman make GO and NOGO gages on the CNC lathe. On the first part, I gave it some plus comp and ran one hole and reset it to check the thread. The gage went in. No way....it should not until I've added some minus comp. So I got a thread mic and checked the gage. They had made it to the _external_ thread pitch dia.....not the _internal thread pitch dia. Common mistake.
  19. Is that the customer's model? Most gears have an involute profile to the teeth, which would be a nurbs surface on a model.
  20. I'd use a Hougen to rough it out. http://www.hougen.com/cutters/magdrill/Hougen-Annular-Cutters.html
  21. That's what I used. Thanks to everyone for the tips.
