  1. I did also figure out recently how to use c axis contour. The most important part of the whole thing is the rotary axis control- rotary diameter. It should be set the the diameter of the geometry you selected. Then the depth of cut is pretty much incremental even though its claimed to be absolute.
  2. Ok cool I finally got 5 axis added onto my lathe mill hasp. The downside is when I select a 5 axis toolpath to try to do this part a different way I get the error message (incorrect axis combination) . What kind of stuff do I need to add to the machine definition to let me load 5 axis toolpaths but not mess up my post. The lathe is an old Haas SL-20 without a y axis but with live tooling.
  3. Colin if I every run into you at any event, your drinking for free all night long.
  4. On 5 axis swarf how to I keep the tool angle perpendicular to the floor. I am cutting a real simple 2 inch wide slot, no taper on the walls, and a flat floor. But when I get swarf to work inside the pocket it doesn't want to stay normal to the surface.
  5. I am trying to get Mastercam to output a multi-start threading cycle correctly. This is what I need % O0000 (T) (DATE=DD-MM-YY - 05-06-17 TIME=HH:MM - 14:07) (MCX FILE - T) (NC FILE - C:\USERS\ASMURPHY\DOCUMENTS\MY MCAM2018\LATHE\NC\T.NC) (MATERIAL - STEEL INCH - 1030 - 200 BHN) G20 (TOOL - 97 OFFSET - 97) (OD THREAD RIGHT INSERT - NONE) G00 T9797 M8 G97 S200 M3 G00 G54 Z.2 X.39 G99 G92 X.1798 Z-1. 6. I'm kinda liking that they aren't giving the posts to you anymore with the stock install. I have so many backed up post files it was becoming hard to keep track of them.
  7. I end up using Sift and click on the origin a ton now also. You can see the gnome on the screen and just tell it where you want it.
  8. On my old Haas lathe it does not like having the C axis engaged & the spindle clamp on & the live tooling all turned on at the same time. I am trying to get a post modified so it will do as follows. I tried going through my reseller and just got a post from Postability that does what I want with one thing and then messes up on everything else. I only want this to happen with the drilling cycles. 9. JParis. That is so weird its working perfectly and yet the model isn't positioned like the video says it needs to be. The origin is on the top of the part and the video shows it needs to be on the bottom of the part. If I hadn't had followed the instructions I would have figured it out already. Sweet thanks
  10. This is what I am getting. The cutter body and inserts. Imported it looks like this See how the inside cavity of where the arbor is suppose to be is showing and not the holder itself. When i try to fill the cavity It becomes way off. I might need to take this one to the CNC software forum.
  11. I have no problem opening it. I am having a problem using the step file as the source file for importing as a tool into Mastercam 2018. It was a feature they added in 2017 but I am still trying to work out the bugs on how to make it behave correctly.
  12. I've done everything that the video here shows but it keeps drawing the tool without the holder body and the cavity where it bolts to the arbor is shown as the holder.
  13. I am having a hell of a time getting this file to import correctly as a custom tool. It's nothing fancy but I would like to figure out what I need for step importing. It's strait from seco's website. x35396.64543.60676.49870_2012-06-18-005253_R220.48-03.00-09-06SA.stp

  15. I am really digging the new interface for selecting highspeed surfaces in 2018. It has streamlined the process of treating multiple surfaces with different stock to leave.
  16. Look up horizontal boring mills. Doosan, Hurco, even Haas Makes some.
  17. I had been asking for that one for a while. Haven't needed it since they added it but I am very much looking forward to giving it a shot.
  18. You know I have never actually figured out what is the deal with dry run. I have never used it before and don't understand what it is suppose to be doing.
  19. How do I do a wire pass that skips the rough and 2 skims and goes strait to skim pass 3? When I am on the cut parameters page the only way I get it to work is I have to click on perform rough cut and then do the 2 skim passes. But, I don't want the rough. Never mind I figured it out. I just didn't understand that even though I told it to start on skim pass 3, the rough cut isn't using the burn codes of the rough but the burn codes of the skim. I was expecting it to say skim for that pass and not rough.
  20. Getting really good at using single block, with feed hold and cycle start. I never run full out on a new setup. Every new tool will get checked against the clearance plane. Haas machines are pretty strait forward. There are a ton of tricks though. I would start watching the Haas Youtube channel and learning some of the inns and outs of the machine.
  21. The messed up part is the jaws are supposed to be torqued. It would be so much easier if they just added a brake to the spindle so you don't have to f around with it.
  22. Wow, it does look really good.
  23. I would never take a machine that's hardware was made for windows 7 and try to use it with windows 10. You will run into driver issues and it will not be fun. If you have a brand new machine that was designed with windows 10 in mind, you shouldn't have a problem. The one thing I hate on Windows 10 is they tried to do as much as possible to hide any thing that is a normal control panel type of function. They are still there but you have to know the keystroke to be able to access them.
