If you needed to take .0001 more out of the bore wouldn't it still have tool pressure built up and take too much out without backing off and resetting?
Mastercam will do the job for Wire EDM but for 4 axis work the geometry needs to be manipulated and as I said before it is a much better CAD system. Mastercam does very well for 2D and taper and land cuts.
Esprit is far superior in bringing in solid files and programming the Wire EDM. Especially when the geometry in non planar. I don't like the cad side of Esprit at all.
I have been using both and now thinking of using Mastercam when I need to draw parts myself and then bring them into Esprit to program.
You know it shouldn't have to be that hard to update to newer versions and have to go through all the crap and 2 to 3 days of figuring stuff out. Just saying
Where do i look for setting the tolerance of the geometry when saving a file as an iges or dwg file?
I am bringing a file in from mastercam to esprit and need to look if the tolerances are set tight.

Brian, I just created a surface from a solid and then created a curve on all the edges of the hole and set my xy height at z2.6627 and uv plane or top at z4.1861.
I think it's more of a post issue. Mine doesn't post an I or J if I am doing 2d geometry, but it won't hurt your program as long as there are no T codes or UV moves and your program says M15 P0 and not M15 P1 OR M15 P11
Brian, The wire will only use the J and I planes to figure tapers and 4 axis.
Just set your machine conditions in the AI set screen to to 1.550 thick material.
Make sure in your parameters under NO CORE that you uncheck the associate to library and where it says stock to leave, set it at .002. This will give you .002/side to skim on on your regular contour passes. I would change my starting pass number to 2 for my regular contour passes and set my number of passes to 2 not including rough pass. it will now take 3 skims starting with your pass 2 because the first pass probably wouldn't burn any material out.
Thanks I'll check this out. I only had about 2 hours of real training and don't have a problem using Esprit until I get to point where geometry is screwy and have to make changes to it only on solid models.
