  1. as i agree, a mill/turn would be sweet. but as he has mentioned, sounds like he is on a budget, thus the multi-station trunnion. i know some will gasp at this statement, but HAAS has a new machine out.....DS 30SSY - twin spindle with C & Y axis. nice video of it on their website.
  2. maybe.....just slapping a quadro card in a box is not always the best thing. is the powersupply suffcient, does it work with the MB, are there enough fan(s) to work with heat issues, is the housing itself built to handle the heat a highend card, etc. will put off. just saying, too many variables to digest when a person(company) can one stop shop.
  3. sounds pretty simple and i assume you already have a process underway. buying a multi-tasking machine will be fun for you and something to add to your resume, but i think it is overkill for your current shop. i suggest buying the haas with a multi-station trunnion. or, if you are not cutting positive or negative seats, just flats, you can get a multi-station 4th axis as well.
  4. this is one of the things that always drives me nuts. is all of this worth the headache? you will have a sub-par system. if you use SolidBox, you will have a proven system, already set up and ready to go as soon as it hits your floor, with great support. i am a firm believer in "you pay for what you get".....literally.
  5. how many do you do per day? you can get custom trunnions that can hold many parts.
  6. a few more for you: bubinga - very hard, great grain koa jarrah - beautiful rich, grain. here is a link to a site i use. you can get clearance packages with different samples of woods to test cut with. http://www.cookwoods.com/
  7. try using the mastercam launcher instead. you can create icons and limit exactly what you need per icon.
  8. i do not see this with X4. i just pulled in a sample part and reprogrammed with all default settings.....no user-home position or ref points used. here is a pic of my toolpath. as you can see, my tool does not rapid thru the part:
  9. make sure you graphic card settings are set to solidworks settings. this should fix it. that worked for me and i have the same system specs.
  10. if i were still in a shop environment and looking at routers, i would definitely be looking into robots.
  11. the 5ax haas post that gets installed with the software is pretty dialed in. a couple of my customers use it.
  12. chris is right on. that is the way i teach it also. very organzied = simplicity.
  13. thicker oil and leave more on the walls for reamer to remove.
  14. is there anyone running one of these machines? if so, could you please take a pic of the toolchange position and the actual home position of the machine and send them to me please?
  15. can we please have back the "reverse" product and all the options of working with STL models?
  16. use the hst raster instead of parallel. tool will stay down.
  17. the only old style i use is flowline and blend.
  18. inhouse solutions has a proven post for that control on lathes.
  19. go to inhouse for this post.
  20. i have a new pc with a quadro card with os7 ulitmate. it took some major adjusting of settings to get my graphics good. another pc(same specs) with a "gaming" card works perfectly out of the box. go figure.
  21. dont honestly know. when the control gets to the G80, the alarm pops up that says G-code is not recognized. now here is the "kicker", without the G80, the tool will drill the first hole, but will not retract. it will drill to depth, part rotates with the tool still engaged with the part. i have no idea what is happening.
  22. hello all....i have a customer that has the below machine: Cincinnati Milacron Cinturn series C Turning centers model MA With Cincinnati Milacron acramatic 900TC control here is the drilling output he is getting: ( PGM, OP-1 DATE 21-05-10 TIME 08:27 ) :G0G62G70G97S76M3G95F.003 T1 M26 X10. Z10. (MSG, TOOL - 1 OFFSET - 0) (MSG, 1/8 CENTERDRILL) (MSG, ALL AT ONCE ) G0 X10. Z10. M21 M8 G0 X4.555 Z2. M20 G12 M0 M02 % he is telling me that his machine is alarming out and not recognizing the G80. this is an old machine. does anyone out there have a clue to how c-axis drill cycles are supposed to work on this machine? thanks,
  23. check your email. i sent in a detailed listing with picks on how to set up a custom tool and add a new operation to your ATP toolpaths. i am assuming you are still using the "frameless" operations we set up before.
