  1. Yea but why do I have to select it? in software like AutoCAD and solidworks it is automatic, I think it's a really nice feature to have...just say'n
  2. Just did an install of 2017 for a look see, not sure if I like the Tabs and groups yet, but it looks like you can make a Favorites tab. Also you would think that after all these years that they might integrate a crossing window like most other modeling software has.
  3. If you are looking for a toolbar icon for "F9" you can get it in customize/screen, the icon is called screen info. You can drag it to a toolbar or to your right mouse context menu.
  4. Just wondering, won't this give you extra hesitation marks or gouges in your bore?
  5. Just an update to my issue, I found that the computer was running both onboard intel graphics AND NVIDIA graphics the NVIDIA graphics were not running MasterCAM, that is why the Intel graphics were crashing. I had to go to the graphics setup and use NVIDIA graphics all the time. Thanks Daniel for the help. Richard
  6. I seem to be having a similar problem with a laptop, MasterCAM opens but after I draw a couple of rectangles or any geometry, a notification comes up saying that the display driver has stopped responding and has recovered but all I can do is close mastercam. specs are as follows HP envy notebook 6th gen. I7 16GB RAM Win 10 4 GB NVIDIA GTX graphics dedicated I have tried disabling hardware acceleration (not that I should have to with these specs) but no difference. This a brand new computer.
  7. In the toolpath menu there is one about half way down called stock model, this will create a "solid" based on the toolpath you have made.
  8. I have some screen shots that I use for my students, hope this helps. Richard
  9. I was notified about the latest MasterCAM X9 update and tried to let MasterCAM update using the update tool and it starts but part way through update stops and wants to find a file but I don't know where it is. below is the error I get. TIA Richard
  10. Thanks for the explanation Jay and everyone else. It seems kind of messed up as to why this would happen and always with the same two circles. I have to echo the sentiments of Myth Project though...why has this not been looked at? But at least I know the solution to the problem. Can't have the teacher not knowing what is going on.
  11. Wow, I don't think I ever saw this before but I have been wrong once before! Just one (more) question, what is a view in M/C and how is it set, or can I set it? I did show the students how to create a bolt circle but I also like to get them to use rotate, the lesson was to make two pieces of geo. at different z depths then rotate them for a toolpath, bolt circle is of course very useful but it does not put points and circles on different z depths. Thanks for the info. Richard
  12. I don't know if this is a glitch or some kind of setting problem. I found this issue while teaching this week. I made a 5.0" circle representing a BCD and a 3/8" circle to represent the drilled hole, Xform rotate 15 copies. I then picked the default machine and selected a drill toolpath. I used "mask on arc" to select the hole dia. and followed the instructions as per usual. the mask on arc only selects 14 of the 16 holes...every time I tried it, it missed the same 2 holes even the next day and since. This never happened in earlier versions of M/C. Tell me what you think. I am attaching a screenshot of my picking results. Richard
  13. Thanks for that Ron, I am going to play with the programming a bit. It sure would save a lot of work, just got to get used to thinking four machining planes. Richard
  14. Thanks Colin, you have been a great help! I did as you suggeted with the toolplanes and WCS and it does as I wish it to. I even tried to use the toolpath transform and it will work nicely as well. All I have to do is rechain all the toolpaths for the proper planes. Thanks again Richard
  15. I kind of thought that, so that means I have to translate the geometry to all locations and retoolpath (new word) at each new position, I was hoping to use the transform toolpath to do this, but it sounds like I can't. How do I account for the lineup hole in the first face? Would this be the MasterCAM origin or would the center of the table be the origin? I know the location of the hole relative to machine home.
  16. Hi all, I have a program to do for a Kitamura horizontal...my first horizontal program, I usually do verticals. having trouble figuring out the procedure. I have one part to do in three positions on each face of a tombstone (total of 12 parts). I originally programmed one part in top WCS and top plane in the correct position relative to a lineup hole on one face of the tombstone. I am having trouble getting the the program to post the code to rotate the toolpath to the other faces. the first rotation is starting at B-90.0. I am just using the standard M\C 4 axis horizontal post. I hope this is enough info and that I am just missing one or two steps, any help would be greatly appreciated. Richard
  17. Thanks for the insight J Paris, I will continue to work with these files this week. Tool libraries are such a great time saver if they are used properly.
  18. Hello all, I am working with M/C X5 (I know its old) and trying to setup a tool library from existing tools and operations that have already been tweaked for speeds and feeds. Is there a way to do that easily? Second question is what is the difference between a tool library and a tool database? Richard
  19. The Toggling alt O doesn't seem to work the same way in X8 any more, try going into "view" and "toggle toolpath manager"
  20. This post may look like it won't work, but in reality it will still drill the first hole location because the fixed cycle will start at the present location. The X Y location you have in the fixed cycle call is optional in most, if not all machine controls.
  21. Yea, I tried to get this running in the post I use for the Haas mill but I guess I couldn't get the logic in the proper places. (I have been told that I am not very logical) I still want to get that going but time is at a premium. You almost have to be in the right state of mind to do this stuff.
  22. Hello all, I all like this info in my post, I have modified an MP Master Post and that is one of the modifications but the standard posts in M\C don't have this in there, this should be a feature added in. Does anyone know if Alfred S. modifications work and can they be used in an X7 post?
  23. Hello all, just wondering...when creating a surface\fillet\to surface if there is a setting to make the "auto preview" check box stay on by default, it really gets to be a PITA to always have to check this box. This is the first MasterCAM version I have seen that does not have it on by default. TIA
  24. You may also have to turn off "entry motion"
  25. You could also use the transform toolpath and pick the operations that you want to repeat without having to translate the geometry.
