  1. Thanks I will check em all out. Material is sa516 grade 70 plate. Use it for high pressure vessels.
  2. Does anyone know of a threadmill for 3/4-10 that will go about 1.5 deep? Its a blind hole and I am currently tapping but I am having to finish by hand in a second op for a flat bottom and chip packing issues. The runs are usually a 120 holes a time so tool life kinda matters to. thanks Gary

  4. Your question was for a 5/16 hole for a 1/4 inch cutter not for a 1/16 endmill going a 1/2 inch deep in tool steel. There is the reason people said ramp the cutter, not just to give you a hard time.

    This would be nice especially when working with burn-outs for say cores ect.
  10. I ran some 2" npt last weekend. The bore is going to be 2.188 for the start I tapered at 1.79° to a dia of 2.24 at start of hole. I went .75 dp and helixed up and out. I drew my dia hole at 2.31 to start at and had to comp out about .05 for good fit. Next time I will drow bigger so not so much comp. I used a single flute mill and the pipe od was 2.375. htp Gary

  13. No Ricks 6.00 in example above is pretty real life. You can speed it up 30% and end up changing inserts so much you loose time. Lathe work goes way quicker as far as metal removal then on the mills. You will like it. Gary

    alt t will clear toolpaths. You can keep this from coming up everytime by setting it in the configuration. Uncheck repaint toolpaths.

    17-4 ph

    17-4 will only get to about 43rc if I remember. Ares very from 37-41 rc I would run a hss drill at 770 and .003 a rev peck down about 1/2 first peck maybe .2 the next and only about .06-.08 after that and just walk away. Thats what i do and it just cuts forever. I also flood cool. I know u have carbide but are spot drilling? I would just centerdrill .08 dp then drill from my experiance.

    How deep you going? and what speed and feed? I drill it at 40sfm and about .003 a rev in the lathe daily. Drill 1/8 inch dia 1.5 dp. Usually 40-50 holes. This is with hss drills though.

  18. I thread ph 17-4 everyday and run 300-350 sfm. I get alot more insert life this way then when going slower or faster. I would take only take about .003 a pass and try that. It is hanging out there along ways but it should still be know problem.
  19. We use soldworks and mastercam together. Its the best combo out there. jmo.
  20. Its a goofy dome outcome that I can't use a plane on also quite thin. I will check out the c hook. Gary
  21. During a boolean sutract I want to slice a profile thru a part. I create a round solid and extrude it thru the tool body then do my subract and end up with 2 pieces of my solid round part for my target body. This is good but now how do I delete or break the relation between the 2 target bodies. I am trying to achieve the same thing as solidworks with its up to next. Any ideas?
  22. I use whatever I have. I do alot with tool upside down because we have alot of parts that are threaded on one end and I have to chuck on a nut to cut the other end. (extrusion tooling) If not run this way the part will spin itself loose from the nut. Try to run as many as you can the same direction to keep the spindle from having to stop and reverse itself.

  24. I would say .015 to .02 should be enough to clean up, maybe will need couple passes on id. Parts can bell mouth just like grinding but not near as easy.
