  1. Isn't that where you take gno, roll it in 3 different balls, stack it and use a carrot for its nose? I knew what it was but have no idea how to pronounce it so I cannot use it in a conversation. Anyone?
  2. Just as Jeff does, I call up a boring bar or a turning tool depending on if the jaws clamp ID or OD. Most of our stuff isn't real close tolerance so unless we crash we only bore the jaws once. My little mori is usually well within .001 TIR just bolting the jaws on.
  3. I bet if you look through their vast list of sensors and gadgets here you can find something. http://www.automationdirect.com I have purchased a whole bunch of relays, timers, counters and specific voltage power supplies from here. If you have to buy motors occasionally check their line out I just bought 2 horse and a half 3 phase pump motors for less than I can get one for at grainger or mcmaster carr.
  4. I have never noticed it being glitchy at all, any chance there might be something wrong with perhaps mouse or video card? Tangent and tangent between 2 just happens and since I can do it easily it must not take an inordinate amount of skill. I have noticed tangent at an angle sometimes pops on the other side of the circle but it all depends on where you exit the active screen to designate the angle. If you exit the screen within about 90 degrees of the side you want it tangent to even on a semi circle it always ends up on the correct side. I bet a number of us could watch you do it once and figure out what is going on but it is hard to diagnose problems like this without seeing it happen.
  5. This one might be sooooo obvious but if you are not using dynamic xform daily you are missing out on the one best feature of any release. It in my opinion is the single most useful drafting function in Mastercam and has replaced about every other move function except for mirror for me. Play with it, embrace it, you will end up loving it.
  6. I have a little mori and every time it hits something (usually coincides with training a new employee) I have to loosen the bolts in the middle of the turret and twist it back to zero. But all 10 stations are center afterwards.. If you line some up and others are off... what machine is this?
  7. I'd love to but I have quite a stack up, I do the parts in my avatar on an old Fadal VMC15 with a tiny Calmotion TRT160. Not much room for a full DOC between the blades plus with small steps I don't have much to take off when profiling the blades. I can do like 60 wheels (big diameter is 5.9") and never see any wear on the cutter. No flame suit needed
  8. I use OSG Blizzard mills for roughing aluminum but a smaller diameter... .375. I have held it right beside a Garr and they look practically identical but the OSG doesn't ring like the Garr on what I'm doing. Too bad I can only get 6000 RPM. 80 IPM .05 depth like 50% step rest rough path. I know wimpy but all my machine can handle.
  9. I can't find that option is it a C-hook or something? Please do tell.
  10. Unless it was pre V3.2 JP has a point. I have no idea what happened in pre 3.2. I do a lot of .IGS of geometry and surfaces for reading on other systems. No way around it. Just load X8 and use that for the school work, I still have X6 X7 and X8 for that reason and the hasp will let you use the old versions still.
  11. The absolute easiest thing would be to have all the machines themselves be identical, I imagine that would get expensive I use the change the machine def method though i usually save the file off afterward with a hint to the machine it is for. Hard drive is cheap these days.
  12. Hey thanks guys, going back to the machine with a better program
  13. I don't own toolpath verification software, so I use verify in MC exclusively. I have a part on the machine on a first run. I noticed the tool getting very close to another fin, closer than on the verify. I saw the move again, rapiding one axis then the other which I call "dog legging" I would like to finish the part but is there any way to make verify simulate this "dog legging"? Right now verify is making one linear move in XY simultaneously even though the control def is set to dog leg. If I could verify with dog leg I would know if I need to re post and run it tomorrow or go ahead and let it finish. Thanks- Jim
  14. Verify all the time here... stupid question where is simulation?
  15. It really depends on the amount of ops on what you are saving. I haven't noticed a huge difference and I'm saving to a samba server.
  16. When creating a line, if you select an arc as the first endpoint it throws the line tangent to the arc. 2 arcs, can create a line tangent to both just by selecting the 2 arcs instead of endpoints. I change normals on surfaces with analyze dynamic. click on the surface and if the normal is the wrong direction use the double ended arrow button in the popup box that happens right after you click on the surface.
  17. Would running it in a VM work? I don't have a mac but one of my buds that does sets up VM's all the time. Just curious. I do a lot of MC drawing via RDP from Ubuntu.
  18. I had forgotten about Belmont, they used to supply wire at another place I worked thank you Del. It is a multi channel flush even at 2.3MM there are 5 holes. Thanks again
  19. We bought a cheap but mighty hole popper. I mainly use brass between 2.0 and 3.2MM. After having a severe problem with holding a depth within lets say.... 1/4 inch I got to checking things and what had changed was the package of electrodes I was using. So I checked the packages I have been getting... from at least 3 different sources. I noticed a difference in the spray coming out of the middle and noticed a difference when I clipped them off... the new package squishes when the old package clips almost like a solid rod. New stuff is much softer. I need a supplier that I can buy a package now and buy one 6 months from now that will burn identical if this exists. Some of these nozzles I'm burning are worth a little cash imagine if I calibrated to the soft electrode then put a hard one in without knowing... there would be a hole all the way through the body. Thanks- Jim
  20. (while you have a MC program up using that machine) Settings/Machine definition manager. When in there click the "Edit the control definition" icon. Resulting tree on the left, click the "Machine Cycles" pink question mark (why does it have to be pink) and then the "Mill Drill Cycles" pink question mark. Un check the routines you want to use longhand. V8 was easier and you didn't have to do it globally per cycle, you could do 2 in a row canned and one longhand if you wanted in the same program. But I'll take what I can get and the part I am making will run a lot faster. Thanks to all that were involved! Jim
  21. Thanks, I think that was it. I drip feed from a SD card so size is not an issue. I'll log in RDP and check it out.
  22. Too old, too settled. When I started 11 years ago they didn't even have a CNC or mastercam. We have 4 dinosaurs and a new Chinese hole popper EDM. Beats cranking handles. Besides it is a challenge making compressor wheels on a Fadal. LOL. Makes wheels better than it drills holes go figure.
  23. I wouldn't believe it either if I hadn't seen it for myself. It doesn't get easier than this: G98 G83 Z7.068 R9.368 Q.1 F3. Same code as a few other holes on the part. Shallow holes drill fine. Deeper ones feed from top of stock on the last 2 or 3 strokes while the first few work fine. Had an old anilam that would feed from top of stock every peck on a canned cycle, had to use longhand for that. It was easy in V9, there was a drop down for longhand. No, getting a new machine is not an option. I wish it was.
  24. I was told once how to do this but have forgotten. How do you make peck drill cycles output longhand instead of using the canned cycle? My Fadal is forgetting to rapid to just before the last peck... on the last 2 or 3 pecks of all the deep holes.. so it goes feedrate from top of stock. Works fine for the first 10 pecks or so then takes minutes to complete the last 3 pecks. Thanks- Jim
  25. Edited my post sir, someone squeezed in between.
