  1. It may be easier to machine the solid. No need to fix surfaces, no need for check surfaces, will need to do things a LITTLE differently. We machine 100% from solids here.
  2. Well, you have already scraped one part and you have a 50/50 chance of applying the heat to the correct side. I am by no means an expert on this type of operation but if I could afford to test another piece, and possibly scrap that one, I would apply the heat to the concave side of the part. If it gets worse, then I was wrong.

    solids

The solids package would allow you to modify the solids you import or create new solids. I have never used mill level 1 so I am not sure of the capabilities. We use mill level 3 and machine everything from solids.
  4. I never have. Seems like something funny going on on your computer.
  5. I used a free version of Autodesk"s DWG TrueView 2009 to verify that DXF & DWG files are good. If a coworker can open it in MC I'm not sure I can help.
  6. Sometimes I will copy my solid onto another level a postion it specifically for the drawing.
  7. BenK, do you see the file when you are in the file open dialog? Do you get an error on file open? Are there any entities in the level manager?
  8. Must be a V7 thing. I can open V8 files with X5.
  9. I'm pretty sure you can change the "files of type" to all files in the file open dialog and then select the V7 file and will open. No toolpath data will be there, but the geometry you are looking for should be there.
  10. Solid layout is easy to use but there is no association back to the solid model once the layout is created.
  11. I used to get this a lot prior to the X versions. It was not related to deleting geometry. I would occur when megring in a file (usually a solidworks file) and re-positioning the merged in stuff. I'm glad I have not seen the problem in a long time! What version are you using Kool?
  12. The dynamic section in SW is nice. I do not think MC has anything like it. I usually cxreate sections of my models on a different level and use the curve--> slice function. However, you do need to know where you want to section it.
  13. Select the bad entity with a window to delete it.
  14. Can you analyze single entities in the chain and see them highlight when selected? I wondering if the chain is nothing more than a whole bunch of very short line segments
  15. You could post in on a site like "First Index". I'm sure you would get a few quotes for those nuts.
  16. I do not limit the number of undo events here. Keep in mind that UNDO does not work for every function or operation.
  17. If you want to break that edge with a radius, you will get an undercut no matter what size the radius is. You can machine the radius anyway and will put some of the radius on. The "bottom" edge will still be sharp. you can use a lollipop cutter as mentioned or you may be able to break the edge with a chamfer. You will need to determine the proper chamfer angle to avoid an undercut. 20 degrees may work
  18. All aluminum mold machining here. The roughing operations all take about the same amount of time (5-6 hours). It is the finishing operations that will vary widely. I find 2 things that make a big difference. The primary one being the surface area of the finished cavity. The second factor is the how many small fillet rads need to get milled (we are only 3-axis here). You may be able to come up with an equation that relates to the surface area of the mold cavity.
  19. Get a mold file and start playing. If you did good in V9 it is a matter of learning the new interface and toolpaths. Just play around with each toolpath for a bit.
  20. Thanks Leigh, that did the trick. I didn't think that MU1 was supposed to alter configuration settings though.
  21. The save as function seems to be broken or it is a least different than before. In previous versions I would go into the save as function, pick a file type, and OK. The file would be saved in the same folder I was working in. Now in X5MU1 when I do a save as, pick a new file type, the file name changes to include the parts of the entire path (ie. c:\work\mastercam\filename). The file name never used to change when changing file types and now it does.
  22. If the un-blank or unhide does not show those entities, they could be drafting entities that can only be seen in the view they were created in unless the system configuration --> dimension settings --> display --> any view button is selected.
  23. This will happen with any imported files that have surfaces. The hidden entities are the original untrimmed surfaces that became the trimmed surfaces in the part model. you can not delete them or the trimmed surface will go away also. You can unhide them and put them on different levels if you want.
  24. I am pleased to report that this issue has been fixed in X5MU1. It now works the way it always did. There is only 1 problem, any dimensions creted in X5 will not update correctly. You will need to reset the dimension value and then add the text back in.
  25. Eliminate the radius that is too small and make it a sharp corner.
